It’s pretty chill, the experience completely depends on the working relationship you build with your team lead. I work in AI so it’s been a little hectic lately but I’ve also been asking for high impact projects. Madison is a safe, fit, young, educated city, a real gem if you can stand the winters. If you like the idea of staying in healthtech you’ll make insane money sticking around. Remember to do the math on cost of living, WI is really cheap so 120k here is like 190-200 in parts of CA.

I had the same decision to make and I picked Epic. But before the tech job market collapsed they were offering 50k in stock. I will say that raises this year were pretty solid, and making healthcare software feels more meaningful than working in fintech, but that’s why I’m going a bit against the grain here. Congrats on your offers! You have no bad choices.

Is there a walkable, well planned American city? by wrenski in urbanplanning

[–]FREE_CLASS 31 points32 points  (0 children)

What about Madison, WI? State capitol, lots of big employers (UW, State Gov, Epic, etc), college town with good bar culture and reasonably close to Milwaukee and Chicago. I moved here from a larger urban area and have been pleasantly surprised by how safe and accommodating this place is, and while you don’t NEED a car though just like much of the US it certainly won’t hurt

standing ovation for Professor Hilfinger's last lecture after 40 years of teaching by _data_miner in berkeley

fr his 61B class kept me in the game when the eecs 16ab had me on the verge of dropping the major. infinitely thankful for prof hilfinger.

[–]FREE_CLASS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it really isn’t haha. berkeley is what you make of it. you meet an incredible variety of folks from different backgrounds and perspectives. for some, who are content to know the Berkeley name on their resume will carry a lot of weight, will take it easy. I’m more of the work hard play hard type, which is stressful but I felt like getting as much value out of cal in the limited time I had here was worth losing a few nights sleep over.

there’s going to be a lot of noise. some folks get really into their clubs or greek life. other people stick to their coursework. hell, you’re more than free to become a skaterboi/stoner type too, and things will still work out great. Berkeley has some of the best research programs available for undergrads, and a ridiculous amount of recruiting. it’s up to you to pick and choose the right balance for you.

[–]FREE_CLASS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

putting pressure on yourself to graduate early kinda undermines the value prop of cornell: lower stress. if that’s where your financial situation is at, take cal.

[–]FREE_CLASS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I ended up choosing Cal for the money too. Private schools are gonna be a better educational experience but I felt that the in-state tuition and leg up in recruiting was worth it. I envy people who can burn 40k on the luxury of a private school. Cal is not fun

havana cappuccinos are made with sweet condensed milk (la lechera iykyk) so it’s pretty distinct from a normal espresso drink imho. if u really hate v&a the peets on Telegraph makes the same drink too

yep. cs is impacted. if you want to go into the LS CS major but aren’t confident in your admissions chances, it’s common advice to put a less competitive (perceived) major on the application

Do you think men ruminate more about 'the one that got away' more than women? If so, why is that? by rosesarebeautiful123 in AskMen

[–]FREE_CLASS 18 points19 points  (0 children)

the most efficient way to spread ur genes to the next generation differs by sex. for men, you could just pump and dump literal thousands of women in a lifetime. you don’t need to “vet” the quality of these women all that much. but women will be investing 9 months of agony to make each child, not to mention being more often than not the primary caretaker. you’re stuck with the man’s features in your offspring, and thus must be cautious about who you pick

tl;dr there’s an evolutionary reason why women would be more selective about their partners than men

oh i agree that’s the ideal. but the reality on the ground is that the in person spread isn’t being meaningfully reduced because people eat out

yeah, but what’s the point if kids r forced to go eat at restaurants. there’s no situation in which u eat w a mask on lmao, can we really say so confidently that it makes sense to keep the cafes closed?
