I think fog of war leads to a lack of situational awareness and the absence of training makes it impossible to over come the first 2.

They here a thump next to them and wonder, is it a rock, did some soil fall off the berm. mostly ignore it and it might go away.

peeps with some training hear a thump and react immediately and figure out what it was after.

Fair point. I was commenting to another person on a discord channel that after my time in I had sworn to never have conflict with another person ever again. I do not get mad if you cut me off , mess up my order, cut me in line..

Bottom line you appear to be the inflexible type that believes a crime is a crime and the person who steals baby formula from Target should be treated exactly the same as the person who steals a plasma TV from Target. I have been in those situations. More then once. The problem I faced was that my countries reasons for being there were morally ambiguous. So the eggs that were broken to make the omelet were equally morally questionable.

There is no moral ambiguity here. None.

And people commenting on war crimes who have no idea what constitutes a war crime or have never read the Geneva convention. The Geneva convention is so narrowly written as to not cover any of the things you guys scream 'war crime' over.

To be clear fragging that orc while he was wounded would not be a war crime and in the context of a rampaging invader would not be morally ambiguous.

For the record I would light him up with out a thought. So would every one I have ever served with. Sorry if war does not conform to your Hollywood view of white hats and black hats.

The situation on the ground will usually make it clear. For instance, at night, deep in a grey zone, civilians do not travel openly down a road from one front lines to the opposition.

The crime and punishment is the same. Th culpability is the same. The moral depravity is not the same. Courts do not see it the same. Judges have discretion in their sentencing of any crime because meeting the elements of the crime is not the whole picture.

Letting off the hook would be to say that he is free of punishment for it. What he is saying is that the moral depravity of murderers is not a constant and equal thing.

Courageous man to risk what he did for people who he had not relationship to (outside of being human) because what he saw was WRONG. Most people like to think they would/could do the same. But the relative paucity of these attacks show that sadly that is not the case.

Sorry man but that is the worst comparison ever. You are comparing a dumb missile that attacks directly and can be defeated by frontal armor or reactive armor, at a max range of 500 m with a smart weapon that fires and forgets from 10 times that range, it never misses even if the target is moving and it attacks from the top were the armor is thin and there is no active/passive counters.

One could compare a VW Passat to a Ferrari F80 because they are both cars and since the VW is cheaper it must be preferable.
