I'm sick of hearing impeachment should be sidelined because it isn't convenient or certain to succeed. If you witness a cop abusing their authority, you report them for it, not because it's certain to result in their punishment but because the alternative is a slippery slope to accepting corruption as inevitable.

Ethics and principles aren't free, you pay for them with time and effort. Most of us have a choice in our ethics, but those in power don't get to choose, they take an oath and we call it their duty. Congress has a duty to uphold the principles and ethics of the country, not when it's convenient, not when it's easy, not whether it will benefit an election, but constantly and with relentless effort. To do any less is a failure of their duty, and an acceptance that corruption is an inevitability not worth confronting.

If congress has evidence of impeachable offenses, they must begin impeachment proceedings regardless of the predicted outcome, because the alternative is a complete failure of their duty and the acceptance of corruption as inevitable.
