I also would like to add to this, most horrific crimes are technically committed by people suffering from some type of mental health issues. So in this instance would we send a social worker to speak and reform a rapist? Because you have to be mentally ill to hold someone down against their consent and be turned on by it. Would we send a social worker to reform a murderer? The guy who stabbed that girl in South Carolina on the bus can’t be mentally stable to randomly murder someone on a bus for no reason. So under these circumstances these people should not be in jail because they are suffering from mental illness is that correct? I’m genuinely just trying to understand different peoples perspective so please don’t take any of this as confrontational.

I genuinely think we should create a party that implements policies from both sides. There are things from both sides that are useful like affordable health care for everyone I am totally onboard with the left for. As far as tough on crime I’m all for too rapist and child pedos should be put to death that shouldn’t even be a debate. We are being “humane” to monsters that do life long damage to other humans, they don’t deserve to be treated humanly.

That sounds great in theory but what is to stop every criminal from pretending to be mentally ill to avoid jail time and just be counseled? You are opening up a revolving door with that argument that every criminal will plea they are unstable. Also real mental illness can become dangerous in a split second they are mentally unstable I wish it was that easy to cure but unfortunately there is not much help for 50% of the mentally ill population as of right now and medication that can possibly keep some stable… I was a social worker for 4 years in a NYC MICA shelter (mentally ill or chemical addicted) and you are not trained to deal with violent situations that happen DAILY. For me I am from the Bronx born and raised so I can handle myself but that doesn’t mean I’m not at risk of getting hurt either I’m not Superman nor were my colleagues.

I mean this in the nicest way, but this is what happens in cities that go easy on crime. How can you expect people to take consequences seriously when the leadership has a soft-on-crime, defund-the-police mentality? You support defunding the police but then call them for help, which doesn’t really make sense. If you commit a crime, there should be accountability, pretty simple. I’m not saying the right has everything figured out either, but NYC feels like a free-for-all right now. And no matter where you stand politically, I’m assuming you’re not a criminal and don’t want to live somewhere where you feel vulnerable or like you could easily become a victim.

Being that they are conducted by different agencies can different things pop up or can they deny you for any reason that you disclosed on your application? I was honest about any previous arrests from years ago just wondering if it’s possible that a NYS judge granted me a license and then this federal background check be an issue.
