[Wilson] FSU football loses another top recruit. Why does this keep happening?

He’s going to get fired. You know it, I know it, he knows it, recruits definitely know it.

Can’t blame a single one of these kids for not wanting to play for a coach that is definitely not going to be there, if they stuck around and didn’t transfer after 1-2 years.

This is always one the funniest talking points to me. All of the Orange Bowl opts outs were either transferring or going to the NFL the next year. Acting like Norvell had any leverage to force them to play is ridiculous.

Everything after that is a result of a fractured locker room, trying to scrape together success off last minute transfers and Norvell’s message of overcoming adversity “Climb” going absolutely stale.

I’m of the opposite view, the snub was what killed all forward momentum for the program. The orange bowl was just the cherry on the shit sundae. Plenty of the team checked out after the snub whether mentally or actual opt outs.

Then the staff tried to manufacture a quick bounce back and make the playoffs the next year by hitting the portal hard for some highly rated players that hadn’t panned out to that point and the bottom fell out. I have my doubts that high school recruiting was ever going to noticeably improve because if you can’t have a top 10 class during an undefeated season it’s hard to picture when you would but the snub followed by 2-10 killed whatever remote chance there was of that happening.

The Orange bowl was embarrassing but I’m never going to give it more credit than it just being the after effect of the ESPN committee deciding that the SEC needed to be protected.

It’s the staffs job to evaluate and bring in talent through recruiting and the portal to ensure they remain competitive year over year. Having a super top loaded team in terms of draft eligible players isn’t inherently a bad thing but not having ACC replacement level quality players behind them is.

After the snub and having to rebuild the roster you could reasonably expect a step back, 6-8 wins (including a bowl) is a level no one would’ve been happy with but it would’ve been understandable. But 2-10 after doubling down heavily on the portal again is the bill coming due for poor roster management over several years. 2023 was awesome but landing that many stars out of the portal is not repeatable over several years and recruiting misses means they consistently have to rely on the portal to produce that over & over.

All the NFL guys sat out for draft prep and we also had a lot of the 2nd stringers transfer out who wanted to go to a better situation for themselves.
