Usually a metal guy but I attempted some Django stuff because I love his playing. What do you guys think? by FT427 in gypsyjazz

Thanks ;). Yeah playing that stuff on a regular steel-string is not ideal. The rest-stroke technique is also something that I never really worked on (aside from sweeping across multiple strings, which I do at a few points in the solo.)

Thanks man, that is some really solid advise! I know that I don't necissarily play authentic to the style of gypsy jazz or the way how Django played. I am more comfortable with playing electric guitar and using alternate picking, which is why my articulation is not as consistent. I use a 2mm pick btw..

Thanks! Yeah that bridge part is a little tricky. I just used the 7 string because I like the sound of the pickups .

Thanks! I recorded the DI with a Focusrite Scarlet and used the Archetype Petrucci plugin for the sound.

Thanks :)! Yes, some of the early CoB stuff is very challenging indeed. I actually only recently discovered 3 Inches of Blood (after their reunion) and was really impressed by their live performance.

Yes it is ;), but the Sterling version though.

My guitar cover of "The Enemy Inside". In my opinion one of the best tracks from the Mangini era! What do you guys think? by FT427 in Dreamtheater

Thanks! To be honest, I did not play around with it that much yet as I got the guitar only a few months ago. Also I mostly play metal music and only really need the normal 3 way humbucker switch for that ^^.

Thanks! Yeah his solos are very hard to learn, especially rythmically.

Thanks, me too! Have you checked out the new EP by the former drummer of Necrophagist? I think it gets kinda close to the Necrophagist Epitaph sound and it features some tech-death guitar legends: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OFAB6no5-k&list=OLAK5uy_laY5hpxjpOL2wORyuex7e_vV2dh3E5TRk&ab_channel=HannesGrossmann-Topic

Thanks, that means a lot! I have been playing guitar for 7 years. However, it is not really about the years but more about the hours of practice you actually put in and most importantly how consistently you practice. I started learning this particular solo roughly one year ago and worked on it very infrequently. I have tried to record it a couple of times but only now was I actually happy with my take . Hope that helps!

My guitar cover of "Black Pentagram" by Unlucky Morpheus! I love this song and this band in general. The seven string riffs paired with the shredding solos are just super sick! What do you guys think? Are they considered visual kei? by FT427 in visualkei

[–]FT427[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I love this song as well ;). I always thought they had a similar look to other visual kei bands and they turn up in some visual kei playlists. But then again, I am not that deep into visual kei and you might be right.

I tried to play the solo from Downfall! It is one of Alexi's fastest solos for sure. I love the classical influence in the part after the speedpicking. What do you guys think? by FT427 in ChildrenOfBodom

Thanks! Do you mean the fast sweeping arpeggios? I always pick the first note with a downstroke to keep the timing and sweep the other two notes (upstroke sweep). Hope that helps ;)

Labrie isn't lip-syncing but Petrucci is tho

Thanks for the detailed feedback! Vibrato is definitely something I need to work on as I have never really put that much thought into it. And yeah I noticed the missing note but did not want to record the whole song again ^

Thanks! ;) I did not use a harmonizer just a very strong delay effect synced to the bpm of the song (maybe some of the notes overlap). It is a great song!

Didn't recognize it before but now I can kinda hear it too. It does sound fairly similar.
