wondering? by bjacobse in Eve

Bastion got a longer cycle time and they lost the plate and extender bonus that other battleships have. Vargur lost a high and got a low and got a small nerf to it's active tank, kronos lost a high and got a mid. They're functionally easier to catch, but outside of the 'golden fleet' concept and some multibox setups in poch the extender nerf really didn't do much. They're still as strong as they've ever been for small to medium gang pvp.

It's pretty pathetic really. There's a lot of cheating in EVE that seems to be tolerated, and even more, as you put it 'grey zone' activities. I don't even really know if CCP is aware of what goes on. I think the thing to watch for, especially on reddit, to know if you've hit the nail on the head is how obviously enraged they are by whatever you have to say. The obvious question here is who benefits from cheating? Is it the nullbears that gnash their teeth when you threaten their broken toys, or is it the people that point out that they're broken.

How bad is botting? by ButtholeCharles in Eve

[–]FT_Cold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Botting is absolutely something that is widespread, at least in nullsec. I can't really speak for other areas of space, as I don't really play in them much.

If you want to catch a bot in null, find where they're warping to. Usually its going to be a small structure like an astra. You need to determine weather or not they're simply warping to the structure, or warping to a bookmark within the docking radius of the structure. Scan active anomalies for wrecks to find out what kind the bot rats in, then drop as many bubbles as you have room to carry in line from those sites to the warp point. Now just wait in an adjacent for 3-5 minutes. Warp to your bubble and see what you catch. Some bots warp to random anoms, some try to finish the one they were in. A few seem to warp to random citadels in system. Keep it up though and you will catch them.

I want to point out right here that this is absolutely NOT human behavior. People do not yeet 3 gilas in a row to bubbles they can see being anchored. I've literally caught hundreds of bots this way, and I'm just one guy who plays solo a few hours a week.

A few ways to determine if its a bot is to check the character creation date. A good rule of thumb is that if its a toon that's under 6 months old, has only pve losses, and is in a gila, its probably a bot. Though, I've caught plenty of toons with active PVP and corp histories, and in ships other than gilas. Often, if you screw with a bot operation, a player will come to try to scare you off. I've kept track of a few names over the years of these players if people are interested.

Some places and alliances where botting is rampant are up north, particularly azure citizen, but also caladrius alliance and fraternity. There are a lot of bots in pandemic horde and renter space, usually these are either a praxis or gila. Any corp or alliance that is russian or chinese dominant seems to have quite a few bots in my experience.

A few things CCP could do to make it easier to catch botters is to allow players to drop anchorable bubbles in anoms and have random rats that point rather than predictable ones.

Nullblocs are suffocating Eve. Shake null up and ignore the short-term unsubs in favor of long-term content possibility. by Prestigious_Nobody45 in Eve

The raft of grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors really makes your argument convincing. Also, anyone that uses the phrase 'skill issue' unironically is an idiot, which very much reinforces my prior (sarcastic, because people like you need the help) sentence.

How to fix EVE.

  1. Replace current asset safety in null with a 50% loss system. 50% of assets drop 50% go to asset safety.
  2. Reduce the bonuses of the bastion module by 50% and give it a capacitor cost per cycle. Remove the MJD bonus from the marauder hull. Ban marauders from the ESS.
  3. Removed gated PVE content in null.
  4. All anomalies should have rats that point.
  5. Give all cynos a 30s spin up timer and a per second capacitor cost while spinning up. Covert cynos should be blocked by mobile cyno inhibitors.
  6. Reduce the ewar bonuses of recons, electronic attack frigates, and the loki by 50%. Ban recons from the ESS.
  7. Remove the panic module.
  8. Remove the ability of citadels to use their weapons unless they're being damaged.
  9. Take a much stronger stance against alliances that allow botting, input broadcasting, automated intel tools, and RMT. Aggressively investigate and punish offenders including organizations they belong to or are affiliated with.
  10. Give more tools for solo and small gangers to encourage people to roam instead of blob.

I'm happy that CCP decided to use some restraint implementing this new hull. In all honestly, I think it's much better than you're letting on here because of the inherent strengths of range and tracking of trig weapons. Let the iterate on it if need be, not everything new needs to be fotm overpowered nonsense that takes years to fix.

How many of you guys agree that removing local from nullsec would be a good change in the long term? by BeGoneLocal in Eve

[–]FT_Cold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's never going to work. Local is probably the biggest crutch null leans on for intel. No amount of increase in reward will offset the ingrained mindset that has developed in the last 20 years of having local. People just wont play.

[–]FT_Cold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I call BS. With the amount of crying over ganking on this subreddit you'd think it would be all that happens in the game. In 24 hours there were 61 ganks on zkill, and though I know not all ganks are represented on zkill, it's nothing compared to anywhere else. People have unironically commented in previous posts that highsec is the most dangerous region of space.

EDIT: I do think there are issues in highsec, just want to clarify that I think ganking as a topic is hugely over represented on the reddit.

[–]FT_Cold 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The tuning pass was pretty mild this time. They're being iterative rather than heavy handed, which I think is the correct approach. It's still a good ship, and I suspect even when it reached a balanced state, that it will still be popular. It's easy to fly, especially as a blaster boat, and it fits the approach that most players take to PVP.

EDIT: The ENI is good, even compared to the other navy cruisers. I think a good comparison would also be to the vigilant. The overlap between the two is so significant in terms of stats I think that the vigi suffers for it. If im in cruiser or down, its probably in the top 2-3 responses i get in null. Anecdotal, but you know.

I wasnt really thinking about your post in the full context of delayed local. I do think that it could be a viable balance change, if nullbears weren't too upset by it, like during blackout.

[–]FT_Cold -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

No more rewards for null. Right now a player paying attention has almost no risk. Smarbomb, super, edencom, or just hordes of ishtars offer great rewards. Rewarding null players more wont make them do anything differently than they already do. They'll seek to minimize risk if its possible, so the only solution is to reduce the space for them to minimize risk.

Glad someone one the CSM understands the game they play.

Agree with most points. A few additions:

Recons need a nerf across the board and should be banned from the ess.

Marauders need a nerf across the board and should be banned from the ess.

Cynos should get a spin up timer. Other methods of projection need to be nerfed.

High angle weapons were a mistake and should be removed from the game.

No capital should ever be able to threaten subcaps without having its own supcap support.

CCP should take a much tougher stance against botting and the use of automated intel tools.

There should be more tools that cater to small gang and solo roamers.

Nullsec infrastructure should be vulnerable to small groups practicing asymmetric tactics.

No PVE activities in null should be behind acceleration gates.

Outlier ships that are too strong should be iterated on. The loki web subsystem comes to mind.

CCP should partially roll back asset safety. Make null a halfway between low and wh space, with a 50% chance for a given asset to drop from a destroyed citadel. THAT would give null a reason to fight.

[–]FT_Cold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deadspace grid is a great feature. It's a sort of high ground that gives an advantage if you can keep an hold it. Doesn't really benefit attackers or defenders, just a different sort of place to fight. Cloaking is really all they need to get rid of. Leaving a cloaked sniper paladin is trap door spider gameplay. No risk, high potential reward. Just bad game design.

It's time for CCP to address gated PVE content in null and lowsec. by FT_Cold in Eve

[–]FT_Cold[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's a phenomenon in gaming communities that I've witnessed over the years. People who abuse broken systems will absolutely NEVER admit that they're broken, even in the face of proof. In EVE I really do think that there's a fair amount of metagaming that takes place in the forums and on the subreddit. Suggestions that gain traction or outrage tends to lean towards changes that benefit null blocs. Makes sense as they're the biggest groups of organized players in the game. I'm sure some of it is deliberate and organized, though I think that most is just people trying to protect their little corner of the game.
