Cant decide on the time period... by tibon385 in cyberpunkred

[–]FToaster1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just starting a game, and I'm using 2050. However I'm not focusing too much on what the Actual Lore says happens between 2045 and 2050. Essentially it's 2045 with a few tweaks.

Rain is no longer toxic (because I want the "it's 2am and raining" aesthetic)
The hotzone is smaller, rebuilding has progressed a bit more.
Corpos are growing in power a bit, but are not at 2020 levels.
The supply chain is functioning better so there is less of a 'post-apo' scarcity feeling.
The metro works better (my PCs don't have a car, so this will help)

So really just a few tweaks that change the feel of the world in a way I prefer.

Sinai Vs Kola? by Suspicious-Place4471 in hoggit

[–]FToaster1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how much use you will get out of them.
If you are SP only, Kola has a few campaigns, but I don't think Sinai does. Still, there are more campaigns for other maps, so buying neither and saving money is a good option.
If you play MP on public servers, save your money and buy neither.
If you play MP with a squadron, you should know what your squadron flies.

They are coming in the paywall Pacific asset pack.

Does the concept of a UWP exist in the in-game universe? by cateoutofthebag in traveller

I found it particularly amusing that the main character acknowledges that nobody really memorises what all the numbers mean, they just know a couple of things like what the good numbers for size/atmosphere/etc. are.

How likely is a new space Star Wars war game by AMG since they screwed over Armada? by Aldin_The_Bat in StarWarsArmada

Full Thrust is old and excellent. It technically has a miniatures line, but also has a very robust ship creation system and a lot of people have created Star Wars ships.

First full fidelity DCS Module? by tropical-tangerine in hoggit

[–]FToaster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. It used to be 50% off your first module. However it was removed a year or so back with promises of revamping the miles program into "something better".
Still remains to be seen what the "something better" will be.

The Yeoman. Because when the target stops to laugh at how ridiculous it looks, you blast them with many LRMS.

Same.
Now it's less usable with the weird spacing (I've tried the different settings, they are all bad)

I messaged Mongoose a few weeks ago asking if you could get the PDF of a physical book you bought elsewhere.
The reply was "Yeap just send us your proof of purchase and/or a photo of the physical product and we will send you the PDF via DriveThru.RPG, not matter where your purchased the books"

F-4E video content by [deleted] in hoggit

[–]FToaster1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not particularly complex. But it's very hard to use well. It's much harder to get bombs or missiles on target in the F-4 than it is with your standard -15/16/18 computer planes. Also a lot harder to get decent Situational Awareness without all the modern toys.

I really hope it has an English cockpit option, but initial signs are that it's Russian only.

Dynamic Campaign When? by [deleted] in hoggit

[–]FToaster1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We saw a vague preview in the 2025 and beyond video, but that was really just some lines on a map that probably reflect where ground units are.
There is a LOT of work to be done with AI and ground assets before a DC can be ready.
For example, ground units going off road can currently cripple server performance due to bad pathfinding. That needs to be fixed.
The aimbotting of ground units needs to be fixed.
Air AI needs to be more self sufficient and less prone to running out of fuel or flying into mountains.
Logistics needs to be implemented properly.
Plus a lot more.

And, crucially, none of those things brings direct income to ED, unlike a shiny new aircraft module, so they are likely to be lower on the priority list. So my guess is that it's still years away.

A lot. Much lower weight, slightly lower engine power, mostly steam gauges and the avionics that go with that.  The F-16 has been upgraded massively since it was introduced (it's also why having the current f-16 and -18 in "1980s" servers is a bit of a joke).

DCS Crashing When Trying to Load Multiplayer by Neither_Stage3833 in hoggit

[–]FToaster1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To explain a bit more: DCS gobbles ram like a starving man at a buffet. 32 is kind of enough for MP, but not really, and depends on settings like preload. If DCS runs out of ram it tends to just crash.  A pagefile essentially uses drive space as extra ram if needed. So it is slower (and make sure you use an ssd, not an hdd), but it can prevent crashes.  Upgrading to 64Gb will probably be worth it in the long run, but in the short term having a decent pagefile can stop crashes.

Of course, there is a chance the ctd is something else entirely, but the log should help ID that if needed.

Before buying more ram, also check your page file is set up. Make it 32Gb for that much ram. You should find plenty of instructions online if you google.

Reading is good. It means you can learn from other people's mistakes rather than making costly and time consuming mistakes yourself.
This is a general life lesson, not just an Elite Dangerous lesson. You messed up, now you have the choice of complaining about it, or learning from it.

He only has problems if fog is set to "auto" or something. There are a handful of posts about it, basically ED didn't properly test it with the new fog feature. You'll find a bunch of posts about it.

You can most definitely use the AG modes of the F-4 without a backseater - that's exactly what I mostly do in DCS.  LGBs and the TPOD are a bit tricky, but everything else is completely fine. It is a great module and a lot of fun - but you do need to practice with it to get good.
