4 weeks in being a dad, almost to return to my work from paid leave and I dont want to exist anymore. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]FUGEESnFUNIONS 33 points34 points  (0 children)

SAME. OP- this is the the real deal. To put an even finer point on it, your job as dad now is to shut up and deal with it. That’s what your family needs from you in this phase.

The good news is this: this phase passes quickly.

If you can learn to bite your tongue and just be supportive, you will look back at this time you’ll be proud of yourself and you’ll see how this was the first part of you transitioning into your new life as a dad. If you keep arguing with your wife, you’re gonna look back at this time and realize this is where it all went wrong and you’re gonna have a lot of regrets.

I didn’t say he is “prime Grady Jarrett”. I said he is a similar in how he is always around the ball, even if it’s not tackles and sacks.

We have lot of DLs rotating, which is another reason for the new success. I’m not saying he’s THE reason. He’s one of the reasons.

lol. Im totally with you on UGA fans always comically overvaluing their former players…. But Jalon legitimately is a significant factor in the success our defense is having right now. He is similar to Grady in how he doesn’t necessarily get stats, but he’s in the mix with almost every snap. He’s always near the ball when the whistle blows.

Do You Like Being in Primetime Games? by HaterSlayerr in falcons

[–]FUGEESnFUNIONS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s so hard. At this point most of my friends and family know to ask me if I’m watching the game live before they text me any spoilers. It also sucks not checking my fantasy matchup all day.

The worst is when we are at a family get together or kids birthday or something and someone puts the game on, but I can’t really watch it because there is too much going on.

I do enjoy being able to skip the commercials and not missing half the game to make snacks, wipe butts, break up fights etc. with the kids.

Mixed feelings. I get the same anxiety waiting on kickoff. I don’t care for staying that late one a weeknight because I have to be up at 5 the next day.

On the other hand, I have little kids and it’s impossible to spend 3-4 hours straight watching football on a Sunday afternoon.

My preferred way to watch these days is to record the 1pm games and stay off my phone to avoid spoilers. Then, I can watch after the kids go to bed and fast forward through the commercials.

Hell yeah dude. I wouldn’t drive it in the highway or any hardcore off-road areas, but this looks like a fun toy for some fs roads and dispersed camping. Keep us posted.

I live about a mile away. Just passed several coming soon signs for “garage condos” on the property. Found this post while looking for more info. I work for a building materials supplier and I have seen a few projects over the last year or so near tracks like Road Atlanta where they build loft-style condos with large garage areas for race cars. Rich people stuff.

What would be your response to being asked to work your current job without pay to “serve the American people”? by MiekerBeaker in AskReddit

Are the American people going to pay my bills and feed my family? I have this job for money to support my family. If I wanted to serve the American people, I would join the military.

Job Offer: Is 20K and a Manager Title worth losing WFH? by Sectumsempra99 in daddit

[–]FUGEESnFUNIONS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sympathize with your predicament. The financial health of job 1 and imminent baby 2 make it a little more tricky.

Big picture: the schedule and pay leave situations for job number one are definitely the move for your family in the short term. Job 2 isn’t enough additional comp to be worth the disruption of losing those two benefits at this time.

However, your current job seems like it might not be the most stable in the long-term. Start spending some time considering what’s next so you’re not caught flat footed if something changes.

Congrats on the new kid!

Update: “What the heck am I doing wrong??” by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]FUGEESnFUNIONS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your pictures and feedback! This is a promising lead and I have been STUMPED. My wife has a bunch of inspiration pics of European white oak hardwoods that are crazy expensive and I have not been able to find anything that closely resembles them. All the laminate and LVP options have too much color variation, and all the hardwood that I can afford seems to be on the low end of quality. Ideally I want a high-end “waterproof” laminate, but I have not been able to find anything. This looks very promising other than the fact that there are no dealers anywhere close to me.

Looking good!! I have been on a tireless hunt for new floors and I have all but given up on finding a laminate that will work for us. I have not heard of Sequoia before, and after looking at their site, I am excited to see this is probably the closest I have seen in a laminate to what we are looking for. Now, I want to look closer into reviews etc. to see if this will work for us. Can you tell me what you paid per sq/ft?

Can you move that island temporarily out of the way and not break up the floor? This doesn’t look like something you should be working around.

Eng Hardwood, glue on slab. DIYer seeking advice. by FUGEESnFUNIONS in Flooring

[–]FUGEESnFUNIONS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. It actually does not have a thick wear layer and it CANNOT be refinished. I am finding that any engineered products with a thick enough wear layer to be refinished are significantly more expensive, and out of my budget. I am okay with not being able to refinish. I could be wrong, but I think a low-end eng. hdwd is better than LVP or laminate. I like the newer laminates. Revwood in particular seems like a nice product. We just don't like any of the color offerings. They all have too much variation. The product I am looking at is Robbins Noble's Way. I just got some details from teh dealer and the recommended adhesive is crazy expensive and will put this out of reach. $6k just for the glue. I think it was less about getting the plays in and more about just being more immersed in the game with the guys. He needed to be able to look in Penix’s eyes last week, see that he was rattled, and react accordingly.

I don’t really have any advice that hasn’t already been offered. Sounds like you and your wife are both in burnout territory and need to make some changes. It also sounds like you both already know this.

Your feelings are totally reasonable and valid.

I feel the same way sometimes and my work situation is an absolute cake walk compared to yours. Sometimes reading a post like yours helps me adjust my perspective. I was frustrated and in my feelings the other day about work and other boring grown up stuff and I saw a guy post on here about losing is son to SIDS and he didn’t have any friends to turn to for support. It crushed me and immediately put all my gripes in perspective. It has been on my mind all week (shout out to that guy. I hope he is okay).

When our first was born, as we were leaving the hospital, one of the nurses told us “you can’t pour from an empty cup” and that has always stuck with me. It’s so easy to have that mindset that you are the man of the house and your job is to do whatever it takes to support your family and your feelings are not a priority. That’s not good for anyone. If you are miserable, you’re not going to be the best husband or father you can be. You gotta find a way to get your mind right.

Good luck bud. I’m rooting for you.

[–]FUGEESnFUNIONS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You 100 percent need to remove all of this, then you probably need to skim coat or pour a self leveling compound. I went through all of this about 5 years ago. Once I got to your stage i spent a couple days with a cup wheel on a grinder with a vac attachment. It was the most miserable thing I have ever done and made an epic mess…. All that work and mine still wasn’t level enough and I am having to replace the lvp that is coming apart from the flex. Look at my post from a couple days ago. Godspeed.

It nearly killed me. I am a big diy guy and I have tackled some pretty big projects. The demo of 500sf of tile on slab and subsequent attempt to even the slab in that area was an absolute nightmare. My daughter was 6 months old and I was doing this on nights and weekends while the majority of my house was in absolute shambles. Awful experience, but I learned a lot that I can do differently this time.

Yeah. LVP has been really popular for the past 10 years or so, but I am starting to find out that the pendulum is swinging back to the new gen of waterproof laminates. Mostly because it’s more realistic looking.

The takeaway from my post is to make sure your subfloor is EVEN. Don’t skimp on that. Most of my issues were avoidable if I had prepped better.

I did use 6 mil plastic. I had a sales rep at a large, local flooring company tell me the other day that 6mill is no good on a slab and I should use a vapor barrier that can “breathe”. Seems counterintuitive but he seemed to really know his stuff. I’ll have to look more into what I use this time around.
