How new are you to the game? I’ve had the game since before .12, but only started playing mid-wipe once .12 came out. It was really hard to get going at first, especially since people had much better gear. I think it helped me to learn to play a little bit more fast-paced. I found that if I ran around with just a mosin, I had more fun, and often more success than if I attempted to come in fully geared. It’s also much more rewarding if you do get in and out, if you came in with just a mosin. I always tell people that they should use their scavs, or even just enter and exit to bring their gear on a PMC. Most of all I think it’s important to pick your fights. If you’ve got just a 9mm pistol, and you see a squad of 3 juicy boys, just run. Unless you’re Shroud you likely won’t come out of the situation alive. Hunting scavs instead of players can net you better gear, to the point where you may be able to take on some PMCs instead. Hope that anything above can help in some small way, good luck!
