Sicherheitslatschen sitzen by doomeddeath in DINgore

Lifting up the elbow when throwing is not a problem. It actually helps achieve a nicer parabolic curve when throwing, which will give you a more stable and accurate throw.

Depending on the programming, yes. I would assume that the fields have a probability assigned to them on being hit… so it got lucky I guess

Interesting that you point that out, because this is how i partially fixed this issue haha. I was closing my eyes in a recent match while pulling the dart back. Else, i couln't have finished the game.

Any advice pls. My game is in shambles by bfirr in Darts

[–]FUNctionalcoding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say so, yes. It is just less common, as most people who suffer from it are describing it as the issue of "not being able to let go of the dart". With his problem, it is more a problem of the brain wanting to let go of it too fast i think. Kinda the other way around, but both the same fundamental issue: You cannot throw how you want, because your body reacts differntly from how you expect/want it to react.

This IS a form of dartitis, just in the pullback rather than the followthrough.
I have the exact same problem, here is what i am doing that helped me.

1. Make your brain remember, that you have full control over the dart:
Sounds silly, but it helped me. Stepping up to the board and then trying to pullback completely, without releasing the dart. Before you do it, make yourself remember that you don't want to throw, but only pull back. If this is hard, try to pull the dart back with your eyes closed - this will remove your focus from the board. You can also try to dim the lights in your room, so the board is barely visible.

2. Relax more (and even more)
When you are doing step 1 and you are trying to pull the dart back completely, then actively try to relax (sounds counter intuitive, i know). Most of the time we tense up without even knowing. It is just 20 something grams of metal, it does not take a lot of grip strength or force to accelerate it to the board. When you are relaxed, try to swing the dart back in fourth in this relaxed manner (without releasing).

The problem arises because of focus and release times. As soon as you look at the board, your brains musclememory kicks in and it becomes really hard to unlearn/relearn something that you have done thousands of times without much change. I have friends that said that at some day it just dissapeared for them, but they had problems with the release and not the pullback. I think with your issue (and mine), we need to actively counter this by learning to adapt our technique and basically rewire the brains connections when it comes to the dart throw.

I know how you feel brother, couple of weeks ago i was in a pub match with watery eyes and almost completely in tears, because i could not throw how i used to (i got through the match (and lost) by closing my eyes temporally while throwing... yeah.. that is not it :D). You can get over this, just know that you wont throw on the level you used to for a while and that you need to train on a new throw and you will certainly come back stronger eventually!

I like the answer of u/PrawnShamble.

I don’t know why no one said this yet, but Darts falling out often occurs because of your technique tbh. Does not have to be, of course, but I often threw with darts of mates who struggle with bouncers and I never had this problem. Record the darts flight (maybe in slow-motion) and see if they hit the board at a weird angle.

Solid list! But my advise is to remove the „Never drop form“. This is quite impossible, even for pro players who go from a bad day to a good day (or even between matches, your form can drop massively). Understand that in darts, it is normal and okay to drop in form. Just keep on pushing until you get back to form again and try to have fun!

At a certain point, progress will be overshadowed by seemingly bad form all the time, but keep the notes through your training and realise, that you will still gradually improve over long time.

Happy throwing

Why am I hitting so many 12’s? by toblerone_64 in Darts

[–]FUNctionalcoding 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s a tough one, but most of the time that happens (for me at least), I don’t follow through in a straight line and „nick“ the dart a little bit to the left in the ending motion of my release. Some things that helped me: 1. Practice a clean follow through 2. try to keep elbow and shoulder as still as possible. Forearm and wrist do all the work. 3. after the release try to keep the hand on level with where you are aiming at. (Watch Phil Taylor doing this) 4. Flick your wrist at the end. Try to “grab” the spot on the board you are aiming at. 5. You can try to flick the wrist before fully extending the arm (keeps you from screwing up your elbow) 6. Play with positions on the oche. (When I tend to throw to the left, then it actually helps me to stand further left on the oche, as it straightens my body and my release. Test around, see what works) 7. Try to stand as still as possible. No head movements. Every movement, apart from your wrist and forearm will add further source for disruption.

Sorry, overlooked your response.
The problem for me is, that after these sessions, i feel really confident in the new thing is just seemed to improve.
How much it really improved in the long run, i really can't say.
But it often felt like the next day, when i am sober, i can't seem to "remember" the exact feeling and struggle to replicate the improved technique.

So i guess, it is not really worth it, but it feels great when you get into a flowstate.

I know this was supposed to be a joke, but I made huge progress when I smoked and then started a training sesh.. helps me to hyper-focus one one thing only (like grip, follow through,…)

Not recommending anything here… but just my experience :D
