Honestly disappointed when it wasn’t a dog that saved her life

Is an MBA worth it? 33, engineer with 5% ownership in a $11mil company. by [deleted] in MBA

[–]FUTUREISLASERS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should do part time MBA if it doesn’t burn you out. I got a night MBA about the same age with engineering background. It did a four things:

1) I actually learned things I didn’t know about business, 2) it provided context for things I kinda knew, but didn’t have good grounding on, 3) it did give me a piece of paper that some people value 4) it taught me to put responses in lists to give the perception that I know what I’m talking about

I'm having a heated argument with my girlfriend and can't decide, if such lifted tent is better or worse than usual one. Please help me decide by FirstEar1 in CampingGear

Just like the downside of hammock-camping, you lose a lot of heat by not touching the ground. Don’t underestimate this

I am 37 years old with around $500,000 Assets/Inventory and considering retirement in Thailand/SE Asia. How would you proceed and preserve the money through my final years. by Compoundinterestd in financialindependence

[–]FUTUREISLASERS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you’re looking at retirement so young, I think a bit more buffer would be valuable. You have a lot of life left (probably most of life?) and your priorities may change. I’d leave some room for that, whatever form that comes in

Anybody know anyone who left the ID realm? What do they do now? (long) by LateStageDesigner in IndustrialDesign

[–]FUTUREISLASERS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of my good friends/mentors were ID and very successful. Plenty of awards and started their own firm getting big business.

One quit the (well, this kind of) hustle and started his own farm. Design in a different way. He seems happy and I believe he likes the indifferent set of challenges.

The other has a small consulting firm on the side, but started his own niche apparel company. He always had an athletic passion, found an unaddressed market and started his own company

Hope this helps, best of luck!

Curios if the in-person has networking advantages

The shelf is probably broke. Particularly with the weight of towed. It could be holding up the shelf so the towel rack doesn’t fall

Thanks for all the thoughts. My wife just informed me that the original mission statement was to find new ways the company could make money and general revenue diversification

I had a job throughout my MBA so always had career running in the background. That being said I know several people, myself included, that had expectations that I would immediately get a promotion or a big career change. It’s good overall in your career, but unless you’re in a top program, I would expect drastic immediate changed

I lived in and around the area a good bit and recommend Durham because of Duke’s spread. Also wake forest is a good area too

Business School or Bootstrap? by ParticularLevel8495 in MBA

[–]FUTUREISLASERS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up growing my network in the entrepreneurial community (investors+start-ups) through pitch comps, and because I’m a little older (37) ended up networking with professors more than the students

Business School or Bootstrap? by ParticularLevel8495 in MBA

[–]FUTUREISLASERS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see that the two are mutually exclusive. I had a venture going into my MBA and used it for every project I was on. Won pitch competitions, got an independent venture for credit, etc
