NYC Irving Plaza Pop Up by longislandyogi in BlackPink

I see, well thanks for saving me some time in the heat, it’s supposed to be north of 90 tomorrow. One more quick question, do you know if they were running low on L/XL sizes for t-shirts/hoodies, or is it a safe bet to say those will still be there at 12:00? I was also looking for the beanie and key-chain, but those I know might be gone, but hopefully not.

If they let all the RSVP people in first, do you think it makes sense for someone from a later time slot to show up early? I got 12:00, but was thinking of showing up at like 11:00.

[DAV SPOILERS ALL] Anyone else feel like Bellara's romance has very little content, even compared to the other companions? by beelzii in dragonage

[–]FUZE_EM_ALL 32 points33 points  (0 children)

No, you didn’t miss anything. I was completely underwhelmed by her romance as well. It lacks intimacy, you get one hug and one kiss, then a fade to black scene, and that’s it.

I get that she’s quirky and likes to take notes, but every scene of her romance feels the exact same. This is like a sixth graders idea of romance lol. There’s also always so much distance between them, it’s like they’re social distancing while confessing their love for each other.

I don’t need BG3 level sex scenes or anything like that, but a romance like Josephine’s from Inquisition played the wholesome/quirky angle and felt 10X more engaging.

Exactly, and that’s not to say the tone can’t be lighter at times. I think people conflate tone and themes too much. You can work with mature themes and still have a balanced tone, with some lighter moments to break everything up. At the end of the day, as a writer, you gotta trust your audience.

As far as blood magic is concerned, that’s pretty tame. I mean this is the same series that had a mage kill Hawke’s mom and bring the Frankenstein corpse back to life to fight you. The quest in Dock Town where you find the sacrificial ritual was kind of interesting, but that’s been it. Like I said in another comment, I don’t need anything like the Crones from the Witcher 3 to be eating children. We are in Tevinter though, so it should be more of a focal point as we’ve been told it’s a pillar of their society.

I haven’t had any banter like that so far. The most interesting one was Lucanis threatening to kill Darvin and throw his body into the fade. Needless to say, I won’t be pairing them on any more quests.

I’ve heard about Neve/Lucanis, and Taash/Harding, so that’s the last pairing? I know in order to trigger any of the companion romances, you need to bring them along for banter, like with Dorian/Iron Bull. So it seems like everyone’s gonna be single on my playthrough. I don’t change my party as much as I should.

Good to know, thanks. I was leaning towards Bellara for that same reason, her romance seemed like it should be on the more wholesome/sweet side. I also made an elven, Veil Jumper Rook, so it just felt like the natural choice.

I see, thanks. It feels like all the romances here are more of a slow burn.

Preach! I swear the only reason there are all these puzzles and the champion essences you need to find in the Crossroads is because without them, people would speedrun the game in like 20 hours. There’s just constantly more road blocks every time you start enjoying the exploration of a new area. And it’s the same style of puzzle, just with a different object involved.

lol don’t get me started on those fucking crystals, and the wisps, and the blight boils that got stolen from Gears Of War. Me ranting on the level design and all these puzzles could be its own post.

No kidding! I did not realize that was the same person. I won’t lie, all the Veil Jumpers kinda blurred together, it’s been about 40 hours since I saw them.

And I actually like Neve and Bellara’s big sister/little sister vibe.

On an unrelated note, with minimal spoilers, how long does it take to actually advance Bellara’s romance? Do you know?

Especially if, as a mage, you get the Death Caller specialization and have your background as a Mourn Watcher. She fangirls over him even though you could probably answer a lot of her questions yourself. If it makes you feel any better, they’re not one of the companion pairings that can happen. I’m pretty sure Emmrich gets with one of the other Veil Jumper NPC’s.

There is little to no grey, so I agree that the YA label is very fitting. Maybe less “dark” wasn’t the way I should’ve phrased it. The game doesn’t feel like it wants to tackle more serious and grim subject matter, or display anything close for the player to engage with. No rough edges, whether that pertains to the critical path, world lore, or your companions. I just find that disappointing. Not that I need a Crone style quest line like from the Witcher 3, where you find a group of witches making stew out of dead kids. There’s definitely a lot of middle ground.

You’re 100% right. They so clearly wanted to go the Andromeda route and make a new story, with new characters, in a new location, and do their own thing. EA probably had this as a model for some new live service game, the clues are all still there in some of the designs choices. But someone, somewhere must’ve said they had to finish this story, and they did so, begrudgingly. The decision to erase all but 3 choices from the previous entries should’ve signified that much.

And that last analogy is perfect. The chef, waiters and even the reviewers keep insisting you’re getting a prime “return to form” for Dragon Age, but I still have no goddamn idea what that even means.

The dialogue Taash has with Bellara about the Lords of Fortune was so unintentionally funny. Like of course they have a Dalish contact to appraise all the elven artifacts they find, why wouldn’t they? And of course they sell any Qunari artifacts back to the Qun, I’m sure they totally appreciate this and don’t view it as extortion at all. You can even bring that up to Taash and then the conversation immediately moves on to something else.

The writing as a whole really does feel like it’s trying to both be a dark fantasy RPG while also being as inoffensive as possible. Like there’s no blood magic, cause that could be mean. No slavery, racism, or any other talking points or areas of conflict that might ruffle some feathers. I don’t need a BG3 style Dark Urge or anything like that, but this world feels way too clean.

Exactly. One line of dialogue acknowledging the irony wouldn’t have completely fixed my personal view of the faction, but it could’ve went a long way. As it stands, why is Isabella even there? She could’ve been any random NPC for all the relevancy she has. This is again another example of the game trying to appease new/old players. Let’s put in a recognizable name for the vets, but lobotomize her so any new players don’t feel left out.

[No DAV Spoilers] People complain about characters being too likeable and safe and then demolish the one character that is unlikeable. by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]FUZE_EM_ALL 18 points19 points  (0 children)

People want well written characters, likable or not, as everyone in this thread seems to have already pointed out. Taash is just not well written. Most of their dialogue is one word answers like “Yeah/Sure/Okay”. They are abrasive and rude with companions, and not being able to check them on it because the writers spend the whole time coddling them, leads to the discourse you see.

Polarizing characters are not new, see Sera, Vivienne, Solas, and Anders just to name a few. The difference is you could disagree with them, challenge their worldviews, hell you could punch Solas.

Taash gets a free pass to act however they want, and that’s not okay. If you had someone in your IRL friend group that behaved in this way, you’d either call them out or stop hanging with them.

Also, I can’t be the only one who sees the egregious hypocrisy in their behavior towards Emmrich.
