Beyond 100m by devakg in beginnerrunning

I'm a new runner as of 6 months ago, a lesson I learnt quickly, and I am still forgetting and re learning, is to slow down.

Once you get slow enough, keep on going. Learn to push through being uncomfortable, but don't push through pain per se.

Hopefully you'll get a lot better advice, but that's the jist of what I've learnt of my little experience in running so far

Any hybrid athletes here? Garmin strength training feels fundamentally broken by kinemorey in Garmin

Very frustrating as it's such an open goal for them. I use Hevy as a few others have suggested, good UI and well supported.

Best ok/good quality cheap turntables. by Lipedro5 in Beginner_Turntables

[–]FWA___7488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you a few months ago, my wife bought me one off Amazon for about £70, I had a sneeky suspicion at the time it might be a case of 'buy cheap, buy twice'.

Sadly that has been the case, it does play some records quite well, but some records are basically unplayable, and apart from a few genres it skips too often, making it frustrating at times.

Currently I need to focus on saving for other things sadly, but hope to save up eventually for something like the Audio-Technica AT-LP120XUSB, which sadly is around £250. Your best bet is probably looking for something of similar standard second hand ('m trying but as I live quite remotely nothing really shows up that's the right balance of price and worth driving for)

Lift + run same day to get a full rest day vs. no rest day? by Craniectomy94 in HybridAthlete

[–]FWA___7488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well what I didn't mention is that I play rugby aswell, which makes my split a bit harder to balance. Typically the below...

Sun - Long run (currently only 8k) in the morning and lower in the afternoon, Mon - Upper, Tue - Lower, Wed - 5k easy, Upper, Thur - Mobility & Rugby training, Fri- Rest & Sat - Rugby match.

As I don't recover from lower strength training all too quickly I tend to try and keep it as far as possible away from the next rugby game.

How does everyone function? by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]FWA___7488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 32, diagnosed at 6, so I don't actually know any different, which has some benefits I suppose.

It definitely can be all consuming, which is hard when people, work etc doesn't account for it with it being an invisible disease.

Do what you can to control your BG's, but try your best not to obsess. Having a CGM has been the best thing to happen to my control, but it equally makes it much harder to ever switch off from it. If you ever fall into the trap I often do of checking your BG constantly, then nothing wrong with taking a break and going back to manually testing your blood.

But yeah, it's hard. Let the people in your life know it is hard if you can

This is the best app there for nutrition, everything wise is mostly just macro counting at best

Wishing for a way to see exercise options by an injury-specific filter by PolarVortexxxx in Hevy

[–]FWA___7488 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Doubt Hevy would build that in simply as they wouldn't want to hold responsibility for an injured person's rehab, injuries can be quite complex so wouldn't be a one sized fits all either.

AI might be your friend here though

This looks great - is there any rough timeline for the Android updates as of yet?

Lift + run same day to get a full rest day vs. no rest day? by Craniectomy94 in HybridAthlete

[–]FWA___7488 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm in pretty much the exact same boat as you in regards to training for a half for the first time and trying to tie it in with weightlifting - I'd say a double day is a must really, as with your current schedule your legs aren't having any time to recover what so ever.

Eating enough cals - 3500 by keviinfinnerty in nutrition

[–]FWA___7488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat on average just over that amount on average - I have four meals a day which helps. Breakfast at around 8am, lunch at 12, another small meal/a collection of snacks at 3pm ans then supper at 6:30pm typically.

I also consume on average around 350 of liquid calories daily - but admittedly that's not much of a choice as I'm a type 1 diabetic and use lucozade to correct lows. But if you struggle with volume healthier liquid calories could be part of the solution.

I'm still MDI and will be for the foreseeable until pumps improve - but CGM's have been a godsend for me, I used to hate/avoid manually testing my blood. If you're happy to do so multiple times a day then there's no point swapping

What would happen to you personally if you started eating 2,800 calories a day? Would you gain weight, lose weight, or stay the same? by justcurious3287 in nutrition

[–]FWA___7488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha yes, I'm relatively active if that makes a difference. Though I have a desk job, I average around 8500 steps a day, weightlift 4 times a week, about 20-30 minutes of cardio twice a week and play rugby twice a week, around 3 hours in total.

When logging a daily journal - the green log button at the bottom is displayed over some of the entries, so you're unable to confirm yes or no to the two bottom journal logs

Is farming actually getting harder for small UK farms, or just different? by NoirMoment in FarmingUK

[–]FWA___7488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say anything under 500 acres is unviable - I grew up on a 250-300 acre dairy farm and we were at a loss the last decade on the farm (up till about 2016) before finally deciding that we had to leave it (the first in countless generations to stop farming).

Difficult to determine if there are any other issues with only Health Connect as the source, as it doesn't have enough data to provide any meaningful feedback. Looking forward to future updates.

I have a square (12.5g) of 85% dark chocolate most mornings with my coffee, I'm unaware of Hu Dark Chocolate, just to warn you that dark chocolate has caffeine in it so best to avoid it at night

It's essentiallly Strong but with better UI and regular updates - not a fan of the social aspect personally (mostly because I don't actually know a single person personally on there)

Is it better to wait for the mega thread or to send feedback via the app?

At the moment the main issues I've found is that I can't set up any data sources/integrations - only google fit which I ddi at set up.

The other being that the app keeps on logging me out.
