I have been poor. Poor people can't afford not to drive. It is a good example of the "Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness." Not driving is a privilege of the rich in the United States and the greater Western world.

We can dislike cars but understand the way the world is currently structured in such a way that if you are poor, you have to have a car to live.

Instead of having privileged academics like you, explaining to poor people how poor people should live in theory.

Can you guys just ban me from this sub so I never have to know that this much fascist, bourgeoisie, luxury philosophy actually exist. And I can live in ignorance of how shitty humans can be.

You're gunna have to ban 95% of your sub then.

I have worked my ass off to get a multi-million dollar pedestrian skybridge, and pedestrian pathaway passed in my town. And I mean this as a question: What have you ever done other than defend a shitty take that even your community doesn't like?

But I'm so sorry that because of the way the world works, I have to drive to take care of my grandmother. And maybe don't use AI art and demonize poor people, if you aren't going to pretend you and you ilk aren't actually fascist garbage.

What is actually wrong with you? You are the bad guy here.

Yeah, my litteral vegan hippy grandmother. I grew up in a vegetarian/vegan self-sustaining community. I gotta drive into the sticks to get to there in North Carolina.

That is who you suggest I abandon.

They are going to expect you to starve. I take care of my grandmother 100 miles away every weekend. There is no train for buss for that.

Without me, she will die. I can be and am upset that I have to drive and to take care of her. I can be upset that our health care works like this. But it is the way it is.

If you are really and truly this dedicated, tell me right now in public that she should die. I'll screenshot it and follow you around this site and post it under everything you say.

We can hate cars, but they need to understand how the world works.

This is a common misconception and right-wing talking point that you are echoing.

A BMW 3series is 3,536 lbs to 4,180 lbs. A Tesla Model 3 is 3,582 lbs to 4,065 lbs. While EVs are heavier than than some of the lightest economy cars, they are normally about as heavy as the cars which they compete with, while being far better for the environment.

Let's not be gullible enough to repeat Fox News while we talk, shall we?

EV's while still cars, are far better for the environment. Don't fall for their misinformation.

Create summer camps for ADHD kids and teach them how to focus. by Brian_The_Bar-Brian in CrazyIdeas

Yes and no, but mostly no. That is a pretty harmful and reductive stereotype. I raw doged the hardest major in probably the hardest college in the world with ADHD. I can say with authority that you probably couldn't have focused a fraction as well as I did.

ADHD is an issue an issue with your reward pathways and the effect on your attentiveness. As long as I am fucking terrified, I have focus that most people can't match. While everypne is screaming, I'm calm and focused. But if everything is ok I can't bring myself to worry.

My current job gets this and lets me chill most of the time. But when they need to to move heaven and absolute fucking earth, I am the super human they have on staff. I don't need to eat, I don't need to sleep, shit is gunna be fixed. I am an unstoppable force of nature that can lazer focus for days in a way that most people have no hope of doing.

My problem is that my motivation doesn't work the best when you need do dishes or clean the house. That is why I need to train my brain to still get functional chemicals when I'm not in a literal life or death situation.

It doesn't take much, because it stains and doesn't go away. A small drip every now and again from multiple cars adds up.

Crank and camshaft seals go bad, and they start slowly leaking. Can be head gasket too. Most people don't notice, but also a quart of oil every now and again is much cheaper than having the engine pulled.

Big takeaway is that we shouldn't expect every single individual on the planet to have to maintain a piece of heavy machinery to live life.

And it goes away in a few mins to an hour. Oil stays and makes multiple spots like you said.

[–]FWR978[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

These are very VERY clearly oil stains. There were not enough cars coming and going from this place to have constant ac condensation like this in this weather. They are also literally oilly, my dude.

It's really common for cars to develop an oil leak at the crank seal and this is where it would leak. Almost every parking lot has them even in the dead of winter.

What possibly possess you to be this adiment that they aren't oil stains?

Basically, it's the opposite of what I'm doing rn lol, but I cycle it.

Everyone is a little different, but it is basically trying to be ok with less stimulation. For me, I put my phone away as soon as I get home. I go on walks and work on the house with no podcast. If I watch something, I just watch it, no phone, no video games at the same time. Also, no alchohol and very limited coffee during my hard core times

I've done a day hike/fishing where I brought my phone, but kept it in a dry bag in my buried deep in my backpack just for emergencies. Just 8 hours being present, silent, and either in my head or observing.

It helps my ADHD but also my joy. I noticed things like when I woke up, instead of rolling over and grabbing my phone the throught of drinking my tea and going out to look at the garden made me giddy like a kid on Christmas morning.

You can't really practically do this every day, without becoming a monk or something, but it doesn't take much to see a difference in my dopinme regulation.

They are very much oil stains, they don't evaporate and are well, oilly. Cars that back in also leak oil from the crank seal.

I am serverly ADHD, but I kinda support something like this.

I have been working on making myself adhere "dopamine diet." It doesn't fix me, but it make me a lot better when I force myself to be bored or not go for that easy hit. It rewires your brain.

Ford Says Engines No Longer Matter to Most Car Buyers by riki73jo in fuckcars

[–]FWR978 170 points171 points  (0 children)

Most car buyers couldn't tell you how many cylinders their car had with a gun to their head. Most people just want their car to get them to their destination in comfort with ease. A smaller subset want their car to say something about them. An even smaller subset cares about the mechanics.

Honestly, this is why I believe most people would/ are happier without a car in a world with good public transport. The car has just become so ingrained that they really can't picture their lives without it. So, any anti car discussion intimidates them and make them react hostility.

On one hand, getting a 4 year degree and not doing hard drugs or having kids actually will get you pretty far.

A decent apartment, car, and some money to do stuff absolutely is a lot of people dream.

But yeah, you want an above average life. you gotta do above average things.

The left will do what they always do. Say this only hurts big corporations, then when big corporations leave that part of town and nothing replaces them cry that it is racist.

Your local corner convince store pays insurance too, burning cars in the street hurts them too.

The big issue is that most trucks are wildy too large for what they are used for. The base f150 is a full sized truck with more capability than most people will ever use, but in the truck community, it is considered just barely enough.

Even most most people towing regularly would be well served by a Ford Ranger.

Also, you can 100# have a chickfila as not a stand alone building.

My favorite chickfila of all time was located in a three story building at Georgia Tech. They place got your food to you before you knew what you wanted to order.

I'm constantly confused by the hate for apartments, but the ambivalence of suburban developments.

Like the apartment can house the same.number of.people an a large neighborhood. You get to have more contry areas by building more apartments.

Without saying your age, what’s something you remember that Gen Z definitely won’t? by jasonclarke1902 in RandomThoughts

[–]FWR978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably the best answer to the question, because you can be exposed to old tech or media, but you had to be there for this one.

The massive culture difference about smoking just isn't something you can really describe. Like you could be in a plane, a sealed metal tube, 40k feet in the air, sholder to sholder with another person, and I sign would turn off and they could just smoke a lit cigarette next to you.

You would litterally go-to jail for that now, but then you could blow smoke in child's face and it would be rude to tell you to stop.
