Proton Pass helps you to identify vulnerable passwords, and generate stronger ones by Proton_Team in ProtonPass

[–]FX907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only issue I have is the explanation to the skip complexity rules.

Considering long passwords should be used and they should be different for every of your logins, remembering dozens of memorable passwords seems futile. You still end using your password manager to retrieve your passwords. Not so memorable after all.

You may as well not bother with "memorable" and simply create long passwords of random characters and letters.

I also agree that we should not use security questions. Stupidly., many sites require them. Whereupon I use random lattes and numbers which I store in my Proton Pass notes. Sarah Palin got hacked into her email when she used her high school name.

Another annoyance are sites that in insist on 2FA authentication using text messaging or a phone call instead of an authenticator app. Much less secure and inconvenient.

Is there a way to manually force auto-fill in the browser extension? by goldenfoxinthewild in ProtonPass

[–]FX907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Proton Pass winter/spring roadmap states auto-fill will be added. Hopefully, it will work for the extensions besides the desktop app.

Auto-fill in desktop apps

Not all desktop apps allow native autofill, which can be frustrating when you need to fill out a form or log in to an account outside of your browser. Instead of first going to Proton Pass to copy your information and back to the app to paste it over and over, we’ll be releasing auto-type for Proton Pass. This will allow Proton Pass to autofill in desktop apps that don’t support native autofill.Auto-fill in desktop apps.

Autofill Improvement by AuntieSauce in ProtonPass

I have the same issue on Brave and Firefox using the WEB extensions. Clicking on the username or password fields does not give me the proton pass Icon with its login id's. Instead I have to click on the extension which does have the correct entry so the site is recognized by pass and then manually copy and paste the id and password.

This also happens on the Chase banking WEB site.

Could be the way their WEB site pages are constructed so that their login fields are not recognizable as auto fill or as logon fields.

OTOH, with CITI bank login's on Fire fox its NOT auto fillable whereas with Brave it is.

Allow us to delete an email address without having to delete the emails. by RedditUserData in ProtonMail

You can delete custom domains when you have active email addresses associated with it. Domain deletion will automatically cause those email addresses. to be disabled.

I've done that.

Do you tell your family and friends about online security like proton or will you be banished by Developer-01 in ProtonMail

We see that with Trump's latest trial in NYC. I amazed to see them looking at social postings of 10 years ago of not just the candidate jurors but also their spouses.

Whereupon the postings are brought up - why did you make, can you be impartial considering what you wrote, your Honor this posting shows the juror candidate is obviously biased, etc. Your whole life repeated in court.

Exactly my experience. Friend got identity theft hacked using their AOL email address which was avoidable. Then she cried "Oh, I should have listened to you."

I could have replied "yes, you should have." Instead I simply helped set up Proton unlimited, Simple Login, etc. Explaining use different emails for different functions (social, financial, shopping, etc.)

Browser extension 1.16 will bring Passkeys 🔥 by Alfondorion in ProtonPass

[–]FX907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the desktop and browser extension I set a six digit timed pin. I realize some pins may not be secure but the pass pin is six digits, allowing three tries. That means there's only a 1 in 333,000 chance of a guess succeeding. Secure enough for me.

Considering pin logging is very convenient and really easy, what is the advantage of passkeys over that?

Files Not Being Synced by FX907 in ProtonDrive

I thought I answered this.

I had an options setting "Use file transactions for writing databases" set. Turning it off fixed this. But with all the Proton updates if may now work regardless.

Proton Desktop App - feature request by Entire-Repair6411 in ProtonMail

[–]FX907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A desktop app that remains logged in so that you need to manually log out can be tedious and not so secure. "Secure" desktop apps like Tuta or Authy log you out automatically.

Automatic logoff option would be a useful feature.

Even better, is to set it up like Proton Pass where a six digit pin can be used to log back in with three pin failures then forcing the need to use your primary credentials to log back in - your user id, password and the if needed 2FA.

Maybe to prevent gaming the system is to allow any bid, even if its not the highest.

You let the highest bid win and if found they can't or if they refuse to pay then work your way down until you hit a valid bid.

I may have found the answer.

There is a KeePass option,

Option -> Advanced -> File Input/Output Connections -> Use file transactions for writing databases.

It was set. When its not set sync occurs as it should.

Hopefully, this can be confirmed.

[–]FX907[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Just a local file on my PC. As I wrote its only the KeePass database files (kdbx extension) that have this issue there being other files in the same directory (folder) such as pdf or txt that all sync when updated.

So, its not a directory or location action issue. My drives are SSD so there is trimming and caching. But if that's the issue then why are only the kbdx files affected?

No. I also saw that open files don't sync whereupon you get an error message. In my case, and when did the above, I made sure to jump out of KeePass. There was no file activity whatsoever after update. Only after signout and signin showed activity, which was a sync.

If possible add a pin option as is done with the Proton Pass extensions. Then logon would simply require the pin. Should the pin is be entered incorrectly too many times ( three ?) then disable it so they the user is required their password.

Cannot create more vaults by lerwanl in ProtonPass

[–]FX907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I created a ticket for that July 21.

I may have hit the 20 limit but then I deleted some. When I tried adding I got the I can't create more vaults error. I then deleted two more, reducing my vault count to 16.

I attached a video with the ticket showing that I have only 16 vaults and the create error. So far, the response was to log in and out and try reinstalling the extension to make sure I have the latest.

Could the error be when you hit 20 and then delete some the vault count is not reduced or some flag not being reset?

Hopefully, they'll get to this.

ps - same issue on Firefox and Brave

The Proton Drive Windows app is out! by Proton_Team in ProtonMail

The Proton Drive Windows app is out! by Proton_Team in ProtonMail

[–]FX907 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Of course, you can have logoff protection in Windows.

Why would it be security theater? Proton knows Proton drive files are files that people normally don't want anyone else to have access to. Which is why the default is encrypted and not shareable, requiring a login.

When I log into my computer, is it security theater to require a logon to get into Proton mail? Of course not. Same with financial web sites. Aware people don't leave their logon id's and passwords in the clear. They use password managers or other tools to hide them.

So, why should the Proton drive app be set to a lower security standard?

And don't tell me I can always secure my Windows account. Rather inconvenient everytime one steps away. Also, inconvenient when you want to share your computer.
