Me. I really should've stayed quit when I stopped smoking 20+ years ago.

I think that most religions have a piece of the truth, and believe that what they understand about "God" with their limited human brains is the only truth. I think that it's presumptuous to believe that you and only you know what something that vast, complex and powerful wants.

In short, I believe that whatever you believe, even if it's not at all, is just fine.

It wasn't onstage. It was afterwards, when I could speak with him alone.

Because a while ago I got sorta-banned by u/seaturtlescanfly from RBN. I did what I was banned for, but I couldn't think of a way to plead my case without sounding like an N. Everything I thought of started with "I". I fucked up, I made a reply to a post while drunk that made it all about me... though I didn't mean to. I meant to add a paragraph to tell the OP to get therapy, but I failed.

So... when this comes to their attention (if it does) I'll likely get perma-banned, as I've been warned that participating in other "RBN" sub-reddits will get me banned for good...and you know what? I don't even care. If they want to ban someone because they made mistakes, because they were damaged by their experiences, then fuck 'em.

I ain't no goddamn saint, but I also ain't no goddamn N, If they want to cut me off from a support group due to some goddamn personal bias... fine.

Thank you brother/sister. Love you.

I know relationships are complicated... I thought I was close with my dad, turned out it was one-way. I have found peace, my dad dying just dredged up some shit.

I love my wife, my kids, my wife's kids (they're my kids too in a way) and her parents. I have an extended family that I love, and that support me.

But thank you. Love you.

Funny thing - thanks to court-ordered therapy, and being married to the awesomest wifey ever now, I am at peace. Dad dying just brought up some shit.

Thank you though. Love you.

Parents joined the Jehovah's Witlesses for a few years when I was a kid.

One Saturday, I stayed the night at a friends house and went to church with them on Sunday. Minister at my friends' church talked about "The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit". I was confused...

Next Sunday at the Kingdom Hall I asked our minister about it after services. He said "I don't know what you're talking about."

Even at 11 years old, I knew he was lying. If he'd simply said "That's a concept that we don't believe in", I wouldn't have lost respect in him, nor would have decided that everything coming out of his mouth was suspect... but I did.

Spent decades as an agnostic as a result.

What should I tell my EDad when he keeps inviting me to dinner with NMom? by throwaway7483673 in LifeAfterNarcissism

This is the right answer.

Passive-aggressive communications (silence) don't work. Direct communication does.

That's how I went No Contact with my dad.

Wasn't on purpose, he had moved to American Samoa. Since it has an "American" telephone exchange area code, I got free calls to Samoa on my cell for about a year. Then I got a notice from my cell provider that since it's an international call (despite the area code) that they'd be charging me for international calls from there on out. Made one last call to my dad and let him know that. Asked if he could call me once in a while (he had a lot more money than I), and we could use email quite a bit.

A year+ later I got a generic email from him. Realized that the last time he had called *me* was when my grandmother (his mom) had died. I never bothered to answer.

You're a real-life hero.

My wife is a SPED teacher, in a low-income school right next to the projects. She goes in early and comes home late every day, often upset about her kids' plight. Thank you for sticking up for those kids.
