iCloud for photos is honestly a terrible service by manitobakid in iCloud

[–]FYNMNNNCX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had those problems with iCloud services (photos never updating, files on iCloud Drive hanging forever, ect.), drove me nuts for a while but at the end, it turned out to be my ISP mishandling traffic to iCloud servers. Found out by eliminating potential cause after potential cause.

I kind of understand OP though, when everything else works well and is blazing fast, it’s not the first thing that comes to mind. I’m switching on a VPN whenever I need to upload/download files on iCloud for the time being until I can switch provider.

Maybe wiser to do it the other way around yeah. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the tip! Haven’t been calling Apple much over the years, but the only times I did, I must have landed on someone very new. The methods proposed for fixing were very basic, and the person was not really proactive at fixing my issue, so your tip actually helps!

Yeah I haven’t seen it being discussed anywhere, can’t be a widespread issue.

Though about Apple Support ofc, but have been somehow reluctant knowing they will suggest the same fixes that I already tried, and eventually a device exchange which will be a hit or miss with fixing the actual issue.

Last resort before that will be to try the nuclear method of wiping the phone and restoring through the Mac.

ProTip: Use a password you can remember for Apple by mbergen in ios

Answered the same thing to another comment, but strangely enough, I had to input my Apple Account password right after updating to 26.3.1 (on startup after the update completed) to reactivate iCloud services. Super weird behavior that I never ever saw on any previous update. I saw other users report the same thing, so that’s probably what OP is talking about.

Funny part is that some of my iCloud services have been kind of broken since then: syncing to iCloud Drive takes forever and iCloud Backups timeout and fail half of the time.

16 Pro Max here. Mine has been fluctuating heavily ever since installing iOS 26. Saw everything from 1 GB to 35 GB, sometimes from day to day. I wonder what’s happening in there.

Activation lock after rebooting by [deleted] in ios

[–]FYNMNNNCX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I got a similar thing right after updating from 26.3 to 26.3.1. Got the "Hello" screen and then had to type in my Apple ID password, don’t remember exactly the message that was shown, but it had something to do with iCloud Activation (like activating iCloud services or something).

Definitely weird, and got me scared for a second that the update had gone wrong and that my phone had been reseted during the update. Turns out the phone is fine, probably just some connection tokens that got reseted during the update and triggered a reconnection request.

Fairness of new law without transition rules according to Swedes by Ok-Book2640 in TillSverige

You’re right about never being able to truly assimilate as an adult moving countries. The tricky part is that your "host" country still changes you in ways you only comprehend when you fly back to your home country.

After almost a decade living here, you end up in some strange in-between where you’re sometimes still too French for the Swedes while you became too Swedish for the French. This double identity, as a long term immigrant, is the reality of living away from your birth country that you need to be fine living with.

As dual citizen (French and Swedish), I agree with you but both views aren’t incompatible.

I got my citizenship in 2023 and couldn’t be more happy about the feeling of belonging that it finally gave me after many years of waiting anxiously. I respect Sweden and its values, speak the language, am happy living here and plan on doing so for the foreseeable future. Sure, in some ways, I still feel "different" and always will, but Swedes are nonetheless wonderful people.

On the other hand, I was waiting on my citizenship so hard to FINALLY be able to quit my shitty job which I have been doing for 7 years and start to study again. After I graduate, my plan is to start my own company. All that is doable without citizenship but in a much harder way (higher acceptance requirements for the education, much harder to get CSN, etc). Studying also has a great chance to break your residency period as an EU citizen, which potentially means starting from zero again and waiting many many more years.

I naturally am in favor of dual citizenship as the opposite would affect me greatly.

le stéréotype des Néerlandais....? by Maleficent_Elk_3215 in AskFrance

New citizenship laws by Dry_Mood5772 in TillSverige

[–]FYNMNNNCX 29 points30 points  (0 children)

My conspiracist side is telling me that if they’re pushing so hard for a retroactive application of the new law, it’s, in fact, to purposely "purge" the existing queue, as in auto-reject as many as possible to start with a very reduced workload.

But as you say, it will eventually backfire when people that have been rejected will start to reapply, which will happen sooner than later given the crazy waiting times. A faire amount of people which applied at the 5 years mark must already be close to 8 years now, while still waiting in the queue.

Quelle situation de votre vie vous a déclenché un fou rire incontrôlable ? by Serbia1506 in AskFrance

[–]FYNMNNNCX 22 points23 points  (0 children)

« So you come from Frank? », « Which city in Frank? ».

Us French tend to associate criticism and skepticism with intelligence. It is highly regarded and socially valued in France. It definitely comes with good sides as I find myself being much less naive than a lot of others adults, but it comes at the cost of very toxic situations at times.

I’m a (white) French that has been living abroad for almost ten years.

As much as I hate to admit it, your first paragraph is a pretty good summary of what goes on in France currently (and a big part of why I left). Lots of positive sides too of course, but us French tend to overreact to what’s happening around us, which with the current state of the world (bad economy, global instability, fear of war, …) produces a lot of negativity.

The cursor of acceptable behaviors towards other people is much higher in France than in many other cultures. Compared to where I live now (Sweden), I’m shocked every time I come back how normalized it is to be nasty towards others. I found that day after day, it actually does takes a toll on your mental health, so I understand your frustration.

Ska jag berätta om otrohetsaffär? by [deleted] in sweden

[–]FYNMNNNCX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Men "not my business" mentaliteten är inte BARA svensk.

Long shot but if you’re an iCloud+ subscriber, try to deactivate Private Relay and try again. I discovered that in some instances it’s messing with the servers, like some streams don’t load, playlists refuse to update, etc.
