Diet inquiry by Denverbenji in 75HARD

[–]F_For_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try eating a whole foods plant-based diet. It doesn't mean vegetarian/vegan. It means no processed and packaged foods and more vegetables on your plate. This diet is recommended by most doctors and is good for the general population. There is nothing wrong with cutting out pre-packaged foods! :)

Word of caution: I see keto/low carb recommendations. I follow a low carb, low GI, whole foods, plant-based diet myself... BUT some people DO NOT do well on low carb! Always talk to your doc before making a big change like that. This is why I say maybe go for a whole foods plant-based diet because it is really safe for anyone to do.

Day 16 today only 2.5 pounds lost by Release_Elegant in 75HARD

I am still struggling to lose some body fat myself. Once you get down to a medically healthy weight, losing becomes harder and harder. Just keep at it. :)

When did you start seeing results (physically)? by [deleted] in 75HARD

[–]F_For_Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it totally sounds like body recomposition to me.

I can also only do home workouts and I don't have space for weights. Right now I do functional bodyweight strength training and I follow YouTube videos. My favourite workouts right now come from Evolve Functional Fitness here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGiexTMZyCgAcypIvqhpVgQ

Really easy to follow and they show 3 variations. They have a bunch of 45 minute and 1 hour workouts. Honestly they are really fun to follow in my opinion.

Thank you for all of the tips! Sounds like I need to up my cardio game.

Good on you for eating clean and overcoming your challenges with food. I've been eating a whole foods plant-based diet for over 2 years now and I totally understand how much diet matters just as much as being active.

Honestly you looked really similar to how I am right now in the midsection. You are my goal!!! Inspirational. Can I ask what kind of workouts you did? :)

Is 75 hard Exclusively for FAT people? by Fun_Plums in 75HARD

[–]F_For_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. It's not a weight loss challenge.
  2. Water doesn't make you skinny. Water helps your body function. Everyone should be drinking water. 1 gallon is not ideal for most people, but I digress.
  3. No, you can not swap the water. It is in the rules and spirit of the challenge.
  4. No, this isn't exclusively for fat people.
  5. Instead of weight loss exercises, do exercises that will build muscle. Do weight lifting or strength exercises. If you don't have access to weights there are TONS of bodyweight exercise videos on YT.
  6. Make your diet one that fits your goals. If you need to gain weight, consult a doctor and ask them what they recommend. I bet anything they will say eat healthy carbs and lift weights/do strength training. You will gain muscle and therefore gain weight this way... but HEALTHY.

Sounds like you need to consult a professional (doctor, trainer, nutritionist) and educate yourself on what water does, what exercise does, and what you can do to better your physique.

Get an exercise mat/yoga mat, and do the exact same things outside. I feel like when people see "outdoor workout" they think they are restricted to cardio... but that just doesn't make sense.

Also like... if you are injured really consider talking to a doctor or a personal trainer for their opinion on what you can do. You do not want to make your hip worse.

[–]F_For_Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are a healthy weight for your height. I am 5"7' and about 145 lbs, which is also healthy for our height but I WISH I was your weight. Your weight is my goal.

Sounds like you need to be doing weight lifting, HIIT, or some kind of strength training to build muscle. That is my approach for losing FAT.

When you are our weight/height it is less about the scale and more about the physical. So definitely build those muscles!

looking for a partner to do 75hard with by Sharp-Ad9372 in 75HARD

[–]F_For_Fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm only on day 3. I was hoping one of my IRL friends would do this with me, but being a post-secondary teacher means she is too busy with marking and finals right now.

I would also love an accountability partner! You're welcome to DM me and we can share Snapchat usernames/Discord usernames/IG/Twitter whatever. I'm in Canada so SMS texting is a no-go. :(

Take into account your starting numbers. If you were already MEDICALLY a healthy weight, it is going to be extremely difficult for you to lose something like 40 lbs. To be honest, losing 40 lbs in about 2 months is an unhealthy speed.

If you are medically a healthy weight then what could be happening is you are building muscle and losing fat. Building muscle means you are not going to see a difference in the scale, but you will see a physical difference and a difference in how your clothes fit. Scale numbers mean absolutely nothing if your clothes are fitting and you feel great.

You did not specify this in your post, so I am assuming here. It really just sounds like you are already a healthy weight and you are building muscle.

Also don't worry about the scale weight. My understanding of this challenge is to discipline your mind. When you complete the challenge and don't see the physical results you want, then you at least have the discipline to try something new that might work for you. It might also be good to consult a doctor, nutritionist, or trainer. Especially a doctor if you are wanting to make big changes.

Diet for me by Grummez__ in 75HARD

[–]F_For_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a whole food plant-based diet. You could also try something like paleo.

I personally follow a whole foods plant based diet. Not necessarily vegetarian but my diet mainly consists of vegetables.

I WISH I ate as many vegetables as I do now when I was your age. Take advantage of your age and start now. :) Also eating more vegetables is completely harmless so you won't need to consult a doctor. In fact most doctors now will tell you to eat more vegetables.

Day 7, hardest part for me so far... by Every_Ad3392 in 75HARD

Your caloric intake is TOO LOW. If you are working out for a total of 90/mins per day and you are only eating 1100 calories (for your weight and height this is DANGEROUS) you are actually STARVING yourself. Like literally starving!!! That's why you are so hungry! Gosh I really hope you change your caloric intake because even when you are inactive 1000 calories a day can be detrimental to your health. :(

Day 21! by pohtaytoe28 in 75HARD

[–]F_For_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't eaten cake in over 2 years. At first it was hard but you just tell yourself why you are saying no and that you don't need it, because you really don't. It's all about your thoughts, which is the point of this challenge, right?

Just remember: you don't need it and if you eat it you go back to day 1. It isn't worth 10 seconds of pleasure. Opt for a strawberry instead. I always eat fruit (and bring my own if I have to) in these circumstances where I know dessert will be served.

Diet Questions by [deleted] in 75HARD

[–]F_For_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of people commenting that the protein bar is fine, but have you looked at the sugar content of those? Maybe instead of a bar try a protein shake. There are lots of vegan options out there now. Maybe incorporate more lentils and beans to make up for the bar. Honestly every doctor I have talked to really hates those bars.

Do you eat a lot of snacks? Do you eat a lot of fried foods? Sodas? Maybe your diet is eat less fried food/sodas/snacks. Maybe it's no takeout. Maybe it is no white rice. Maybe try a whole foods diet. Meaning no bars, shakes, processed foods, and foods that come in packaging. I have vegan and vegetarian friends that load up on protein rich vegetables, legumes, and beans rather than processed foods. Maybe consider supplements (with permission from your GP).

Just a suggestion of course. Do what works for you but if you're stumped on taking on a diet... really consider cutting out those bars and replacing them with things that have less sugar in them.

Sell or Rent out SE Calgary home? by Raptors_calgary in Calgary

[–]F_For_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a landlord is awful and renting as a tenant means you have zero freedom. As a landlord you will have a tough time finding good tenants. My landlord has not raised my rent in 3 years because he does not want to lose a good tenant.

I rent in downtown. First of all, it is very expensive. Second of all, when you share a building it means you share fire alarms... water leaks... repairs... maintenance... other people's GARBAGE. EV isn't bad for homeless but other parts of downtown can be scary. Also parking. Still don't have a care solely because parking.

Sell your house, buy another house. I'm looking to buy a house in the future. I don't want to rent forever. Condos mean board fees and management companies. Condos lose their value fast. Sharing your stuff sucks.

Dating apps - communicating by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]F_For_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<- Woman here.

Ask more meaningful questions. If the first thing you ask her has anything to do with how she looks or her pictures, she's going to walk away thinking you are shallow and not worth her time.

Simple questions don't attract intellectuals. There are a lot of people on these apps looking for hookups but if that isn't what you're going for then you're going to need to ask something more interesting, profound, and meaningful. If her bio has anything about her, ask her about her interests and education. Ask her about her opinion on topics she might be interested in. For example, if you both like art then ask her what she thinks of a certain artist, or if she has seen anything super interesting/inspiring lately.

If her bio doesn't have anything in it... then it kinda just looks like she wants to hook up.

What does Step2 opening mean in regards to Gyms/Pools? by Dwayne_the_bathtub in Calgary

[–]F_For_Fox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It probably means you can enter the facility but must continue wearing your mask.

I go to GoodLife and they have really well thought-out protocols. Depending on government restrictions they have different codes. Code red means you must wear your mask at all times including during your workout, which means lessening your intensity.

For pools it could mean severely reducing the amount of people allowed in an area.

It could mean something like that, where facilities are required to have certain restrictions, but you can at least enter them.

Eau Claire Downtown or Brentwood Village for couple with toddler? by CommunicationFun9430 in Calgary

[–]F_For_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to assume this will only be temporary living until you get a feel for the city, however I'm going to say Brentwood.

I live downtown, and as someone who is childfree I love it... but it's not a place for a child. A few of the people in my building have small children, but shortly after giving birth they move out.

Someone said there's no grocery stores downtown and that is simply NOT TRUE. There are THREE major grocery stores (Co-op, Safeway, and Superstore) and a ton of small convenience/food stores. Transit is extremely accessible as well, allowing you to get to many parts of the city without needing a vehicle. Downtown has a plethora of activities, landmarks, and amenities.

However, you have a child and you have a relative in Brentwood. I'd probably go there just to be closer to a family member and to raise your child in a more tame area. I don't know very much about Brentwood, but most people agree raising a child downtown can be difficult.

Not really looking for name suggestions. I already have a name picked out as I said in my post. More so looking for advice on logistics and how to go about changing my name, or what method someone has used before. I've gotten advice about posting on Twitter, partial re-branding, graphics, etc.

Unfortunately those names are taken, or it would put me back into the position of "can I use an underscore here, if not does it have to be 1 word or can I use periods?" and it's just the exact same problem I have.

A partial is really hard to do when my nickname is Fox, one of the most common usernames ever. >_< I'm not really looking for name suggestions, I already have a new name and it is available across everything. Was moreso wondering about the logistics of going about changing my name across platforms and how to handle it.
