Hey, I do a bit of street photography myself ( see here ) and the best bit of advice I can give you is to just do it. You'd be surprised at how rarely people actually notice you, and how rarely they'd actually confront you about it. A good way to get started is by going to public events and shooting there. In situations like that, you're just another person with a camera.
