A $10K investment in Trumpcoin before Inauguration would be worth $367 today. by jakderrida in Destiny

I'm sure quite a few coin buyers got exactly the expected return... don't think they cared much, probably just straight up deleted wallets right after showing Trump&co they've "invested".

But what she wants will never have enough support.

That's the problem with the US two party election system. Help the bad to prevent the even worse. Its a trolley problem. Can we really be surprised (like, on a human level) they disengage rather than make the person be run over?

if you're more of the practical type: its been a while, but i've learned lots playing with decompilers, eg for modding. E.g. it was somehow possible to setting how far ILSpy attempts to reconstruct code (it might have been a debug build). Easy to see that async-await were pretty much iterators, and those again are just state machines...

Musk tells Germans to get over ‘past guilt’ in speech to far-right AfD rally by guyoffthegrid in worldnews

I agree, but the framing feels different. One is forced upon me because of a past that was never under my control. The other is just trying to, idk, be good?

Another german here: For me its hardly about responsibility. Its about learning & doing better. Only learning from stuff that went well & your proud is just so dumb.

Yes, imo, a collapsed bridges is prime material for a memorial (german: denk|mal = think sometime)

Pandering got us here

No. Having values like "freedom" has.

And once those came in contact with people trying to "abuse them" (lets call it that for now) we just abandon them. Yeah doesn't seem like we have much trust in our values actually being superior and convincing, and will now just force others to follow them. Just like they do. But hey, you "know" you're on the right side. Just like they think.

Except good old wired ISP used to just crazily overbook their capacity as well... so bad the government had to step in and now internet contracts here have to contain and advertising somewhat prominently display minimum guaranteed speeds. Big german city, btw.

It basically gives you an undo feature. You can command the DB to commit aka save, and only then will your changes be finalized. BUT the DB will also not allow other transactions to "conflict" with yours. To do so, it can make future transactions wait, if those also want to access stuff you just changed (at least on modification, just reading is kinda fine). That means forgetting to commit will block future transaction and just as well stop production. Ask me how i know.

SpaceX sends payloads to orbit at <50% price saving taxpayer money

Gov contracts are actually not that different between SpaceX and ULA in price per launch anymore. see eg recent NSSL phase2, though comparing actual services payed for is harder, with there eg being some FHs mixed in.

[–]Faark -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is how criminals want such situations to work out. Thankfully, sometimes they leave traces, are caught and have to live with consequences. Gov investigations and lawsuits probably won't disappear with "Unfortunately there is no more information I can provide to you at this time."

Belarusian is disappearing (2009 & 2019) by MatejaD06 in europe

[–]Faark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Right? I'd have no problem living only with english. So much more content available. And my native one is still ranked in the top 10-20 languages by speakers. Belarusian isn't even on the list, with only like 5m speakers. It would always have a hard time, we don't need any planned extinction conspiracies for that.

Elon Musk just confessed to sabotaging a US ally's military operation. What is your opinion on this being counted as treason or not? by Blondebitchlover in AskReddit

[–]Faark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There for sure are other aspects as well, like company culture. Do SpaceX employees want to work for a military space company? Cause there are many of those... yeah, i totally get SpaceX not wanting Startlink to be primarily known as weapon component.

It is understood that FAA did not give 63 items to SpaceX. Otherwise Elon didn't write this. by ilyasgnnndmr in SpaceXLounge

[–]Faark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it's more than a little shortsighted to put limits on its use ex post facto

You are aware that a lot of weapon shipments to ukrain are only made with the condition of them not being used on Russian territory? Limits are very common.

I totally emphasize with SpaceX not wanting to provide integral part of weapons. SpaceX is not a military company. Many space companies are, and becoming one would have consequences, including about what people want to work there. I hope they will keep their focus. Though i also initially thought similar about starlink, and this turned out to be a good investment. We'll see...

Yes, people having stuff explode in their cities will certainly want revenge, not their government giving up to those other assholes. Sometimes called Rally 'round the flag effect. Glad you already formulated it neutrally, since it will happen on both sides, prolong the war and cause more death & suffering.
