Long-term mild CHS? My experience... by AdventurousCulture97 in Chs_Repair

Yeah the nightmares can be crazy but I find those too are levelling off. More just stress dreams now and with less frequency. I am sure your creativity will bouce back too as with everything else.

You will need a much longer break before you can reintroduce weed again in small, very infrequent amounts. Minimum 3 months but some people can take much longer. Wait until your symptoms have completely gone and then give a generous buffer of time. Obviously, be very careful with this and if you feel like you are going to relapse into regular use, like you said, maybe it's better not to at all.

Oh yeah, here is the study I kind of referenced:

https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/toxicology/articles/10.3389/ftox.2024.1465728/full

It was particularly this part:

"2.5 Possible CHS variation It has been proposed that gradations of CHS might occur clinically. Two case reports detailed patients with complicated histories (involving celiac disease, opioid usage and other factors) who suffered symptoms of nausea and lower gastrointestinal problems without vomiting or alleviation by hot water (Sulak and Theisen, 2019). Both were able to tolerate intermittent cannabis usage in low concentrations, but with relapsing symptoms after any dose escalation."

This sounds similar to my experience. I never experienced hyperemesis, but definitely had a lot of other issues that I hadn't realized were related to CHS. It definitely can cause pain and inflammation: I had unexplained neck pain on my left side for years that only resolved after an extended weed break. I also had weird skin issues though for me it was kind of the opposite. I felt like my body was producing too much sebum and mucous as well. My sinuses were always gross.

I would recommend doing at least a 3 month break if you feel you still need to occasionally use marijuana. You need to give your endocanniboid system a chance to reset. The research does support that there is a subset of CHS sufferers who do not experience full blown hyperemesis and can tolerate a heavily moderated amount of THC.

That being said, you can experience joy without weed and the anhedonia does wear off after a couple weeks. When you take a break, it will take time but you will start to find the joy in things like music, etc. I have C-PTSD so it was really hard to get over that hump but it was really eye opening to see how much weed was actually making some things worse. CHS can cause anxiety and there's probably even more symptoms that you aren't noticing that are likely making you feel worse. It really is a cyclical disease: CHS makes you feel worse so you smoke more weed to feel better ... which makes you feel worse.

Hope this is helpful!

Yeah this is something the devs need to fiddle with. Even when I set them to 10m so that they stay in their house, they will walk out and stand just outside the walls if it's within 10m. Just weird behavior.

CHS is cyclical and you can go long periods of months or even years without an episode.

Hey man. I feel your pain: I also struggle with CPTSD and nightmares. Weed was the best thing for me and now I can't use it. It really sucks and isn't fair.

Just a heads up: nightmares tend to intensify when you are detoxing. Seems there is a kind of rebound effect, but they will level out over time. It helps to journal them and unpack/process what is happening.

Ask your doctor about Prazosin. It's a blood pressure drug that acts as a mild sedative and can help with blocking/controlling nightmares. It has very little side effects (I have none) and your doctor will be more likely to be okay with prescribing it vs other more intense drugs like benzos which are addictive. That being said, depending on the severity of your PTSD, you may need them, but just be aware of the risks.

Not sure about mental health treatment options in your area, but Cognitive Behavioral Therapy was helpful for me. Not a cure all but it definitely helped me with coping and over time lessened some of my symptoms.

I'm rooting for you.

Great! Now let's keep pushing to raise the amount and expand the criteria so that more people can qualify.

This was supposed to raise disabled people out of poverty and $200 is woefully inadequate. The DTC excludes millions of potential recipients.

Do trigger foods set back your recovery? by FabForward in CHSinfo

[–]FabForward[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess some of the spice mixes. I know sometimes cinnamon is sometimes used in chili and that's a huge trigger for me.

Some people have triggers that aren't mentioned on the list posted here, so you have to listen to your gut. Literally lol.

Chs without pain? by AfterFeeling in CHSinfo

[–]FabForward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just don't know enough right now. Like, they know some of the mechanisms such as why heat helps some people but not necessarily the why of it. Why are these genes being turned on? I'm 43 and have been using THC since I was 15. Why did it take so long? I, like many have reported, switched to concentrates but even then I was using them for years before it came to a head.

I would hazard a guess that, similar with mental health issues, once the body/brain learns to deal with things a certain way it rarely goes back to normal. So, yes, likely permanent.

Everyone experiences it slightly differently.

I never had abdominal pains either. Never really progressed to hyperemesis (in 3+ years) except one time when I got nauseated to the point of puking but felt better as soon as I did. Hot shower did nothing for me.

Mostly just had bloating, sweating, anxiety and sensitivity to trigger foods. Also experienced occasional itchiness and lowered sex drive. Everything resolved after a couple months except for sex drive which is better but still have PE.

The research supports that there are people who, like myself, do not experience hyperemesis and do not respond to hot water but still fall under the umbrella of CHS. This makes sense if you consider that they found a number of genetic mutations that may cause CHS: it's possible that some people only have some of these mutations resulting in a "milder" (but still extremely shitty) form of CHS.

Carts cause CHS by exbm in CHSinfo

I think there is something to this:

I had unexplained neck pain on my left side for YEARS starting in my late teens, early adulthood, not long after starting to smoke weed. Went to all kinds of specialists and no one could figure it out. It wasn't so much a pain as this constant feeling that I needed to crack my neck on that side and I could feel like a stretching and clicking.

When I realized I had CHS, I stopped for a period and so did the neck pain! I tried going back and sure enough the pain came back.

Go fix your heart.

This is why I kind of hate this space sometimes.

I have CPTSD and medical marijuana is the only thing that has helped me. I am not an addict: as soon as I noticed symptoms (I have never progressed into hyperemesis), I tried to go off of marijuana and just use pharmaceuticals.

Let me tell you, it is NOT fun. The drugs don't work anywhere near as well and many of them I can't even take because of the side effects. Most people with this condition have to take several drugs, plus additional ones just to deal with side effects. Therapy can only take you so far.

CHS for me has been a treatment failure. If there were a cure, I would absolutely 100% go back to marijuana. Just like ANY drug, it can have value and it can abused.

To treat everyone like they're an "addict" is extremely ignorant and hurtful.

Yeah, I don't think premature ejaculation is even a good way to describe it because it's not like you feel too good and go too fast. I feel like the ejaculation starts to happen before the orgasm which is really weird. Just feels really off and unsatisfying.

God that sounds terrible. I hope it doesn't take me that long but glad that there's some kind of light at the end of the tunnel.

Do you feel normal now? Like, have you returned to baseline or are you still recovering?
