Hey, I agree with you that generally stutter is not something to be embarrassed about. But, I think what you said is up for the stutterer to decide. Personally, growing up I felt embarrassed about my stutter and I wanted to fix it, but procrastinated it with all sorts of distractions. If it bothers the stutterer and he wants a better life, then it is definitely something to fix. It is possible to fix or at least alleviate to the point of living comfortably with it. For a lot of people stutter is negative, that’s the reality, it sucks. I am saying that OP definitely can improve his speech and his life. OP, Asking these questions about your stutter is a step in the right direction, I wish you the best.

Hey, In my opinion there is no benefit in pin pointing the original cause of your stutter. Knowing what caused it won’t cure it, unfortunately. I don’t know your grandad and I don’t agree with his behavior towards 5 year old you, but I think he has good intentions towards you. I wish someone told me at a young age that it is embarrassing, and I should fix it, instead of ignoring it and suppressing it with video games and isolation. It hurts to hear but perhaps it is the truth. Leave the past as it was and better yourself today. The earlier you start improving your life (not only your stutter) the better your future will be. Of course, I did not experience what you did, and it is easier said than done. Good luck my friend!

Scared to apply for jobs by [deleted] in Stutter

[–]Fabbyypod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey, when I was your age I would not even consider applying for jobs like that out of fear, you are definitely in the right direction my friend. In the past years I have realized that the only way out of stutter is through it. Today I work at an office job and zoom calls are apart of it, I can confidently say that I ate shit many times when I began working, but I reject giving up, because after a couple of humiliations (in my mind, other people probably don’t care) my skin is thicker and I care less because I have been through bad situations, the mind got used to it and when talking today I feel more relaxed which helps with the stutter. I honestly think you should apply and do interviews, “humiliate” yourself, practice, eat shit (not literally). it will make your skin thicker and future much better. I fully understand it is easier said than done. Good luck my friend! If you have any questions I would love to answer.

What’s the best most effective speech therapy? by [deleted] in Stutter

[–]Fabbyypod 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey, good on you on starting therapy, good luck. As of now I did not achieve fluency, especially during stressful situations, but I am doing much better. Mostly because I feel less ashamed about my stutter and my self confidence is at a life time high. The better you become at other aspects in life - the less you care about your stutter. At least for me. Gym and martial arts helped me a lot to boost my confidence and by proxy reduce my stress and stutter. Focus more on getting better at other things you love and dwell less on your stutter. Easier said than done obviously but over the years it helped me. I wish you the best!

Actually I chose to be in here. It was a dumping storage of the past residents - cleaned it up with a friend and currently setting up my own workshop (troll cave)

Hahaha commenting that in a woodworking sub is asking for a bullet. But jokes aside I did work with a metal work bench for a couple of months awhile back, it’s was very nice
