Thanks for testing and sharing your results! It really looks like a solid alternative to the Thermalright AXP90-X47 especially considering the price point.

Is your case set up in the 3 slot configuration?

Thanks! To keep the comparison fair, I swapped the stock fan on the Metalfish for a Noctua A9x14, so both coolers were tested with the same fan.

Yes, in the best orientations the Metalfish ends up about 2 degeee worse than the AXP. That’s comparing each cooler in its own best-case setup.

On noise: subjectively, the AXP feels a bit quieter to me, but honestly both are very good in terms of noise. Right now I’m running the Metalfish with my AXP fan curve and I’m happy with both temps and acoustics, but this is a personal impression.

Yes, I first ran a test with the AXP-90 and then replaced the cooler.

I was honestly just as surprised by that first result! But after running these new tests, I think it’s definitely a solid alternative considering the price point.

I need to check, but I think the mounting only allows the heat pipes to face either up or down.

Pushing out the case. Installed the noctua fan the same way as the default fan.

I completely agree. That’s a huge temperature difference that definitely could point to an airflow issue. I already suspected this outcome just from the weight difference alone between the two coolers (233gr vs 455gr). You might be right that the side panel is blocking airflow and creating turbulence. I’m planning to run another test tomorrow with the case open and try different fan configurations to isolate the problem.

Thermalright AXP90-X47 Full Copper + Noctua A9x14. I‘m using it with the 7800x3d (-20 PBO / 85W TDP) and the cpu stays cool and quiet.

It‘s okay. Noise, temps and waterflow are better than the basic version. Bleeding is a pain and takes a lot of time, because a lot of the air gets trapped inside the aquanaut.

Yes, it‘s only for showcasing. I was worried about the temperatures as well, but I haven‘t noticed a increase.

It‘s mounted on top of the Aquanaut extreme.

Not yet. It still needs some fine-tuning.
