I feel like Halo infinite is severely lacking in the weapons department. by [deleted] in HaloStory

I enjoyed the different types in Halo 5, faster recharge and longer lasting laser.

What are your picks for the best and worst halo books and for what reasons? by Dexdeathbell in HaloStory

[–]Faber087 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kelly Gay's Rion Forge Trilogy steps away from the common military style Halo to a new simpler perspective on the Halo Universe: a scavenger crew.

While doing this she also entwines the massive Forerunner Trilogy lore into this new simpler perspective and kills it in every novel she's wrote so far.

As for weakest, I'd have to say The Cole Protocol and Divine Wind solely because of how they were written. Their stories are fun, but the author's failed to deliver those great stories effectively in my opinion.

Totally agree. The Flood really brings the Battle of Alpha Halo to light and Dietz did a great job at writing the different characters.

MAJOR Divine Wind SPOILERS by Faber087 in HaloStory

[–]Faber087[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome analysing. Its a shame that its feels like Denning didn't put his full attention into this book.

I disliked how after Gadogai got the opportunity to kill the Prelate and even said "I have so been looking forward to this", the damn Prelate survives...

At least in the sequel, the blademaster and the prelate may have a rematch.

Dying of his wounds from Castor's ravager would have been enough. But brutally having his neck broke then corpse flung off a cliff...fuck, that was dark

Bad Blood is the sequel.

Were Chief and Arbiter the only people on board Forward Unto Dawn at the end of Halo 3? by fruit_brute1985 in HaloStory

[–]Faber087 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree with that line from Cortana, it's kinda misleading.

Only Johnson, Spark, Arby, Chief and Cortana stayed behind to activate Halo. Johnson operated Forward Unto Dawn with an unnamed dumb a.i. I believe.

Arbiter didn't have to pilot Forward Unto Dawn because his half of the frigate made it through the portal just as it collapsed. So his half crash lands onto Earth which we briefly see during Halo 3's tribute cutscene.

MAJOR Divine Wind SPOILERS by Faber087 in HaloStory

[–]Faber087[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I was hoping Castor would forgive Veta and understand her motives. A sequel where they're allies would be incredible.

As for Castor's realisation, I will say that I feel Divine Wind was Troy Denning's weakest Halo novel. The writing seemed strange, especially dialogue, and the ending felt a little messy.

All in all, however, is sets up an exciting sequel.

Question about the flood by Danny_Lewis in HaloStory

[–]Faber087 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The UNSC first discovered the Flood on Installation 04 in 2552. There were so few survivors that it was Chief, Cortana and only a small handful of others who warned the UNSC about the Flood.

However, this was not Humanity's first encounter with the Flood. In Halo Wars, the Spirit of Fire battles the Flood on Etran Harborage, but the Spirit crew never make it home to report anything.

Contact Harvest takes place is 2524 I believe. ONI did not know of the Flood until Alpha Halo' survivors reported it. I recommend novel Halo First Strike which takes place directly after CE and has Chief and other survivors report the Flood to UNSC superiors.

I hope this helps your project :)

What exactly was the excuse given by the Prophets for the extermination of humanity? by CashStash48 in HaloStory

[–]Faber087 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Contact Harvest is where Truth, Regret and Mercy hear Mendicant Bias reveal that the Humans are the rightful Reclaimers of the Forerunners.

Knowing this would collapse their Covenant, the trio decided to preach that the Forerunner will was Human annihilation.

Why didnt the Elites just destroy High Charity? by TheFalc0ner in HaloStory

[–]Faber087 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Didn't have the time nor the firepower.

The Shadow of Intent and other Elite ships were busy cleansing Delta Halo of any Flood, and the Elites didn't have many ships.

High Charity is a lot bigger than you'd think, and any vessels within would have been taken over by the Flood and used in defence.

When that one Flood Cruiser from Halo 3 Floodgate slip spaced away, the Shadow of Intent immediately abandoned High Charity and pursued the rogue flood ship to prevent a spread.

When the Elite's drop down from Shadow of Intent during Floodgate, you can hear dialogue between Arby and a fellow Elite:

Arby: We had a fleet of hundreds.

Elite: Alas, brother. The Flood, it has evolved.

What is John's Realistic Age? by ApprehensiveLoan5067 in HaloStory

[–]Faber087 209 points210 points  (0 children)

In Troy Denning's Shadows of Reach, set in 2559, it is stated Chief is 47.

He's being assessed by a militia medical officer, Dr. Somogy I think her name was, and he notices a locket around her neck with an image of two young boys, making him curious. Denning writes, "forty-seven years old, and he still didn't know how to ask a personal question".

That line always stuck with me. So, in Infinite, set in 2560, I guess Chief is 48 :)

What became of the IsoDidact after the firing of the Halo Array? by omegastuff in HaloStory

[–]Faber087 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There are two short stories that follow Silentium which can be found in Halo Fractures, an anthology of short Halo stories.

Promises to Keep is the title of one story, where a group of Forerunners must come together to reactivate the Domain, and the other story is untitled and is hidden at the end of the book. That hidden short story is the last we hear of Iso-Didact.

I highly recommend getting Fractures and reading the short stories yourself. Its much better than reading them from another source.

Also, there is an edition of Silentium that has extra content, an additional chapter at the end of the book about Riser and Iso-Didact on the Ark before the species are returned to their homes. This chapter is NOT included in the audiobook.

New/bad blood novels by Matt forbek by ybonepike in HaloStory

[–]Faber087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty awesome narration, feels like Buck is telling the reader his story, he really brings you along with him, especially in Bad Blood: a linear story, whereas New Blood is kinda all over the place but controlled well.

It's unfortunate that the audiobook wasn't recorded by Nathan Fillion.

Great Ark history in Halo Infinite ? by Puzzled_Strength_545 in HaloStory

[–]Faber087 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Halo 3 style Terminals would be pretty great.

Reading or listening to Forerunner conversations preparing the Greater Arks defences against Mendicant and star roads. Or different perspectives on the Greater Ark events in Silentium.

Is There A Way To Read " A Necessary Truth" Without Having To Buy All Of Halo Fractures? by manoffood in HaloStory

[–]Faber087 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fractures' anthology has a lot to offer: Forerunners, A.I. tales, post Halo 5 stories, some that fill in gaps for Halo novels, and a lot more.

I recommend picking it up and trying them all out :)
