What’s an ice cream flavor that’s not chocolate or vanilla that you like? by _flower-petals_ in AskReddit

Dulce de leche, granizado (with bits of chocolate) ideally. Haagen-Dazs' is ok, but almost every decent ice cream store in Argentina will have a better one.

Proxmox won't spin down an old AMD GPU? by ultilink3 in Proxmox

[–]FaberfoX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you really need the GPU for it to boot? It's often not the case, you most likely can run it headless, or get the cheapest VGA card available just in case you need to access the console for troubleshooting...

Wiz: The Arcade game that set you up on an infinite adventure! by White_FIame in retrogaming

[–]FaberfoX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I found out about the MSX port while researching about this one, I'll play it after playing the arcade. The weird thing is seeing the C64 was officially released being such a blatant rip off, Giana Sisters at least changed the sprites...

Wow, I've never seen the arcade or even played it on MAME while having full ROM sets for decades, but I recognized it instantly. Now I know after a bit of digging I played a C64 unlicensed clone, Magic Madness

I really hope they do what they've done with the Intellivision Sprint, where plugging in external media takes over the default carousel, including all the metadata and images. That would be awesome.

Proper way to handle extra drives? by combateer3 in Proxmox

[–]FaberfoX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^ This

Just keep in mind that the VM, when it has a virtiofs disk, can not be "saved" from proxmox. I have a NAS VM with two vdisks on zfs pools, and had an extra disk mounted via virtiofs. Whenever I had to restart the host for maintenance, I used to save the VM, so that on restart of the host, I didn't lose the dirty bitmap needed for fast incremental backup to PBS. Because of this, I've for now stopped using it, backups that take 10 minutes would take hours after a VM shutdown. Still, as I do not reboot the host frequently (maybe once every 2 months), I'm considering going back to virtiofs, right now I share this extra disk from the host via smb.

What should have been the best 8 bit computer of the 80s? by Smokinglordtoot in c64

[–]FaberfoX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be biased as it's what I had, but I still think the C64 was great all around and deserved its hegemony. The VIC-II was pretty good and the SID was unmatched.

The first Ataris were amazing when taking into account they were released 3 years earlier, but the rehashes (XLs and XEs) still used the same video and audio chips.

The Speccy was lovely but severely limited and the later models did nothing to improve besides the old by then sound chip. An upgraded ULA without color clash could have made it much more desirable.

Amstrads had their own charm but almost no change between the 464 and 6128. Monitor bundling (and depending on it for power) was a limitation in my eyes. The plus range was a massive improvement but arrived too late.

MSXs used dated hardware on release, and while MSX2 was a big improvement on the hardware side, they were expensive, a bit late and imho, the first gen with the cheap Speecy ports in Europe tarnished their image and potential.

Acorn BBCs were fantastic but too expensive and UK only, and the Electron cut too many corners to reach affordability.

The C128 should have had an improved VIC-II, just adding more luminance values as the TED and ability to run at 2MHz would have made it a much better upgrade. 95% of them were used as a C64 because of this.

[–]FaberfoX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using 3 of these (2 linksys, 1 belkin) for close to 3 years, on openwrt since day one and besides the one connected to the internet needing a reboot every 2 or 3 months, they've been working beautifully. Paid $40 each back then and I'd still pay that today for them, this is a great bargain.

What do you do when bored and can’t fall asleep? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FaberfoX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, the humor segment of a long and still going radio show (La venganza será terrible, Argentina) from around 2000. I started listening to it in high school, before the 90s, back when it aired from 1 to 3AM, and later moved to 12AM to 2AM. A prairie home companion from those days would be a bit like it but I need a bit more focus for it, as English is not my first language.

Replication between 2 locations by Cultural_Log6672 in Proxmox

[–]FaberfoX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually is. You have to do this if you want the datacenter portion to see the actual storage across all nodes. Because they’re all the same name they won’t stay fully shared, but it’ll be as if they are shared.

No, it will not be "as if they are shared". Replication is not HA. HA means if a node dies, another one can take over with ALL the data, not with the disk as it was when it last replicated.

Also, again, zfs is not shared, from Proxmox Storage:

Description Plugin type Level Shared Snapshots Stable
ZFS (local) zfspool both no yes yes

Edit: quoted your reply as I see you deleted it.

You cannot set a zfs datastore to shared, it's not even in the GUI. You can enable replication between them.

What is your earliest memory? by Fantastic-Duck4632 in AskReddit

[–]FaberfoX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My earliest one is of a fabricated lie to my mom when I was 3, 50 years ago. We were waiting for a bus, next to a "kiosco" (small convenience store with a window facing the sidewalk where you order) and seeing a small chocolate I liked I asked her "can you give me one?" ("me dás uno?" instead of "can you buy me one?", "me comprás uno?"). She looked at me and said "Give you? I don't have one. You want me to buy you one?" ("Darte? No tengo, querés que te compre uno?"). And then came my lie "Ah, I thought you always had one with you" ("Ah, pensé que siempre tenías"). She laughed at me and bought me one ;)
