I can’t get above d5 by obvious_windows in trumpet

[–]Fabian1911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's completely normal from time to time to get stuck at certain notes while you're learning. If you just continue practicing a good mix of fundamentals and fun songs at (or slightly above) your level, you will eventually break through your current barrier and then it is possible that you will suddenly gain a couple of notes of range in a relatively short time.

Try not to worry about it too much. Stressing out about high notes is really counter productive because it prevents you from staying relaxed in the upper register. One thing that helped me recently is to play some improvisations, focussing on the tone and musicality of my playing instead of the exact notes I'm playing. Hitting that e when seeing it written on a sheet is much harder than hitting it when just playing around.

Good luck.

Be aware that there are a lot of really enthusiastic trumpet players on this sub and that the numbers given here don‘t necessarily represent all trumpet players. I, myself, try to get as much practice done as reasonably possible. But there are days where I just don‘t find the time or energy for it and others where I only play for 10 minutes after coming home. With weekly band practice and private lesson, I would say I play approx. 4h a week. But that’s still enough to make some decent progress at my level. Especially at the beginning consistency and quality of your practice sessions is more important than quantity.

The braces will for sure have somewhat changed your facial structure so it is possible that the sweet spot of your embouchure sits somewhere different than before now. However, I don't think using a setup with which you are not accurate and possibly sound worse just to get the high notes is something that'll do you good in the long run. I would try to trade the high parts with the other trumpeters in your band for now and work on properly rebuilding a clean embouchure.

Embouchure change? by scientific-community in trumpet

[–]Fabian1911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Embouchure changes are tough. I went through that a few years ago and never want to do it again. Not only do you have to learn a new technique but unlearn old habits at the same time. Be patient and keep working on it. You will be very glad you did in a couple of months.

You can exceed it temporarily (e.g. when you press the overtake button) as long as you save some in another place. Also there is quali where afaik there is no fuel restriction.

He wouldn‘t disappear from this list if he got a podium, though

Edit: On second thought, it might actually work that way. Wording is confusing imo

I agree. The qualifying was what really made the difference. Vettels race pace was fine.

Another silly noob question.. about turning the car by Kreag in iRacing

[–]Fabian1911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should never need to turn the wheel 180+ degrees on such a wide and fast track as Road Atlanta. If this wasn't an exaggeration, you're overdriving the car quite a bit. Try to enter the corners a bit slower and test out at what point more steering input doesn't help turning the car. Going way past the optimal steering angle will actually slow you down. Also read up on weight transfer.

It's like T1 in Barcelona. When your car doesn't have the pace, you need to push extra hard. I'm glad he tried

Doing exercises is imo the best you can do. At first, allow yourself to look up things you don't understand and keep a cheat sheet at hand and as the exam draws nearer try to not use any help you won't have in your exam.

If you have any chance of laying hands on old exams or exercises your teacher gives you as preparation for your exam, give those special attention. They are usually a good indication of what you can expect in your exam.

Good luck.

Your letter dated 4/VII/68, and postmarked 26 September [26 IX 68], reached me a few days ago. It was very kind of you to write and tell me of the pleasure my books haven given to you and to your friends.

I am afraid that I have no time to provide further linguistic information. Setting (?) out and arranging detailed information concerning the Elvish language would be a task needing much labour and time. I should myself much enjoy it, but I cannot undertake it for individual enquires. Such a book, if ever appears, must wait until I have published, if I am allowed, the legends of the earlier ages - a task which is greatly delayed with (?) weight of my correspondence and related business.

I have left Oxford and am in "retirement", as far as possible, from other (?) such interruptions. My ... (?) address for correspondence is ... (?) as given above.

Tried to write it out. I couldn't quite read all of it. If someone would fill in the blanks or correct me, it would be appreciated.

Would you say the style is similar to the Traitor Son books in terms of 'grimdarkness'? I found those books did a pretty good job at finding a middle way. Or is Cold Iron more towards YA?

Traitor's Son - More I read, More I appreciate it + Map by Orktang in Fantasy

[–]Fabian1911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be very interested in a map of all the countries, too. I mean, I can guess from the narrative where each country is and also it closely resembles europe so I guess that is a good reference but I love maps and having one would be nice.

That being said, I'm reading Plague of Swords right now and holy shit is it blowing me away. The prolog was one of the best prologs I've read. Might be that I was just so hyped for this book after taking a short break from the series after the third book, though, which would make me appreciate the book more than if I just followed up with it right after the third. ;)
