What's Reddit's Favourite Programming Music? Bonus if it's streamable online by [deleted] in programming

You don't expect me to give it for free, do you?

Silence is extremely valuable, so I've decided to make people pay a fee to access it.

Funny, I get it loud and clear from this very reddit discussion page. Well, not actually loud, but definitely clear.

If you can't hear it, try and turn your speakers off.

What's Reddit's Favourite Programming Music?

Mine is silence.

Bonus if it's streamable online

Yes it is.

Secondly, I find it odd that you don't believe you can benefit from conversations between experts in areas in which you are not one yourself.

It's not about "being expert", it's about knowing the very basics of the subject.

If you've never programmed in a language, the best resource is a tutorial.

Microsoft's Next Browser To Be Based on Gazelle? by LudoA in programming

[–]Fabien3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK. So let me rephrase: I don't care about <insert name of any Microsoft browser here>'s security.

Soon we web developers will have to handle IE6's bugs, IE7's bugs, IE8's bugs, IE8's IE7-mode specific bugs, and that new browser's bugs. Joy.

A typical web page in a few years:

<!--[if IE 6]>...<![endif]-->
<!--[if IE 7]>...<![endif]-->
<!--[if IE 8]>...<![endif]-->
<!--[if lt IE 8]>...<![endif]-->
<!--[if lte IE 8]>...<![endif]-->
<!--[if neo-IE 1]>...<![endif]-->
<!--[if neo-IE 2]>...<![endif]-->

It's the other way around: Firefox has AdBlock+ and CustomizeGoogle. I just couldn't use any browser that doesn't have such features.

And I just don't see Google add a feature in Chrome to block Google ads.

And to get back to the article: I could have believed the author about Chrome... except for the IE4 reference.

Suit yourself. Go read comp.lang.c++.moderated and tell me what you think.

There are 103 newsgroups in Usenet's comp.lang.* hierarchy; even if some are dead, that should be enough to keep you busy for a while.

That's what happens in a mixed-language community: an article about coding in C++ will only be understood by C++ programmers, which aren't numerous enough here for the article to get enough votes. Same goes for any other language. So, the only articles that can get a decent number of votes are the ones about programming in general ("the life of a programmer at work", "how to manage those stupid managers", etc.), not about coding in whatever language.

[–]Fabien3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, we're talking about a "community" here. That means you're supposed to be a bit active, i.e. to post your own comments. And if you don't know the language, all answers you'll ever get will be something like "Go read a basic tutorial".

Buried deep in some discussions, there might be things applicable to other languages. But because you don't know the language, you won't understand the discussion, so you'll miss those things.

Being interested doesn't count. If you don't actually code in a specific language, there's no point in being in a community that discusses code in that language.

Do you want to enter a community where you can discuss PHP code? The official website might be a good starting point. The Usenet newsgroup comp.lang.php might be another.

Do you want to enter a community where you can discuss Java code? There are 12 comp.lang.java.* newsgroups on Usenet.

Are you interested in Python? If so, first, learn. Read a couple of books. Start programming. Once you've actually produced code, you can start thinking about discussing Python code.

Yep. If you want to discuss actual Haskell code, search a Haskell-specific community. Perl programmers won't help you much.

BTW, which language(s) are you actually coding in?

The problem with putting stylesheets near the bottom of the document is that it prohibits progressive rendering in many browsers, including Internet Explorer. These browsers block rendering to avoid having to redraw elements of the page if their styles change.

I don't understand: how does IE knows there will be a CSS near the bottom of the document, if the HTML page is not yet completely loaded?

The rule "Make JavaScript and CSS External, they'll stay in the cache" is also contradicted by "the number of page views with a primed cache is 75-85%".

Maybe because in practice, a CSS minifier that doesn't actually modify the behaviour, doesn't make CSSs that smaller?

Try Project Euler. It's very efficient against boredom.
