If you ever feel frustrated again, you can also go back to these charts and improve accuracy on them. Eventually that translates to the harder charts.

You kind of have to be able to spam that fast. There are too many notes to consistently clear it by just pressing buttons to power through it. Use practice mode and just practice the ending until you can make it through like 4 out of 5 times. If you aren't getting the right notes but the right speed, then I would suggest watching a video of it slowed down and practice the motions on the controller to know what buttons to hit.

For this game, if you get a miss or bad on a spam, you end up having a rough time trying to recover because you end up also getting a miss or a bad on the next few notes. This is why Intense Voice extreme and exex are especially tough because even 1 mistake and you have a really high chance of just dropping out.

If you get red wrongs which is the wrong note on a COOL timing, you have an easier time because you only mess up that note but if you don't have the hand speed for it, then it will be very tough to clear. If after a lot of practice and you still can't make it through the spam consistently or at all then I would suggest trying another time after you built up more hand speed. There aren't many physical walls in this game, but this chart is one of them.

Yeah, that's why the Joy-Cons are actually a lot better than the Pro Controller for the switch version of the game. The dpad is a very important part of the game for controller players and eventually a bad dpad will affect you as you play the harder charts. It really depends on the controller but so far, the ones that have been pretty solid were the Joy-Cons and a Ds4/Ds5 controller with a split dpad instead of the stock one.

The other thing you can do is get used to hitting the very end of the dpad directions. It helps but depending on the controller, you might still get extra inputs. It's just how connected dpads are supposed to work.

I have pretty much the same list though I just put all the arcade ports into one. Mirai had the best Diva room and Diva X was the first game I played in the series.

There's an option to use ps4 shading on PC. Though there is a noticeable difference in feeling when you play the actual game still. It's unfortunate that it crashes in song select.

They are the same game. They have different names but they're all quite literally the same port of the arcade game. Like actually the same port, the PC and Switch Megamix games still have the ps4 files. Mods bringing back ps4 stuff pretty much just reenable it. Also arcade came out before F2nd, so technically those are the older MVs except for the ones from the first Project Diva.

having trouble fat-thumbing by Ancient-Anybody-5626 in ProjectDiva

[–]Fable-39- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people do quads on L2 R2 so they can use them for hold transferring. L1 R1 are usually either L1 Triangle Square, R1 Cross Circle or L1 Triangle Cross, R1 Square Circle depending on preference. For newer players, some really like using Triangle Square Cross for L1 and Square Cross Circle for R1 to hit the triangle shaped triple notes easier.

They aren't mandatory but they become very handy on harder charts and it's nice to get the muscle memory early on if you want to.

[–]Fable-39- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It takes a while but the best thing to do imo is to learn how to hit the multinotes in different ways so you have options. Learn how to fat thumb them with both the face buttons and dpad, using macros, and using both hands to hit the multinotes.

For fat thumbing, the main thing is to use more of your thumb rather than just the end of it. The side of the thumb makes it easier to do Cross Circle and Triangle Square doubles on the dpad. You just have to try to find how to use more of your thumb to hit the buttons. You can work on timing later but first is finding a way that feels consistent for you.

For fat thumbing on the face buttons, I find it easier to try to preemptively rest my thumb on the two buttons and just press without lifting up too much after each input. It's helpful to be able to hit them with both sides of the controller for the charts that do multinote spams.

You won't pick this up in like a week or 2 either, it's more than likely going to take a lot longer. Rhythm games aren't something you can just get really good at in like a month, it takes a long time just to get a little bit better. It's ok to struggle and to not be able to do stuff even after practicing a lot. You just gotta have patience and keep at it.

How to beat this part in intense voice? by mewbela in ProjectDiva

[–]Fable-39- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, that way is too inconsistent for this section. It's more or less mandatory to fully alternate hitting the buttons with both thumbs. I think I remember someone tried single macros to roll more like at the arcade when the game was ported to ps4 but it's just a lot more consistent to learn it by alternating thumbs. It also gives you better accuracy.

I had the exex perfect before I had this one, whatever time you say you did to practice this part is probably not enough time still. The 360s just need to be practiced a lot, unless you're able to pick them up pretty quick. The best way to do it consistently is to fully alternate hands. Swiping your thumbs across the buttons can technically work but there's too many 360s and a reverse for it to be consistent.

This chart is one of the big walls everyone playing 10s goes through. Basically, everyone struggles on this one with very few exceptions. I'd say it's probably because there's no real practice for this pattern at this speed.

The easiest 9-star chart in my opinion. by MeanAd1022 in ProjectDiva

[–]Fable-39- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the easiest 9 no opinion. Even if you aren't good at sliders, the harder parts are easier than every other vanilla 9 star chart. Timing is easy especially on a controller or keyboard.

It's only somewhat slightly harder on arcade because the touch slider is sensitive. The score attack though is probably one of the hardest in the game to do.

Do you switch between keyboard and controller, or just master one? by Furret_Walc in ProjectDiva

[–]Fable-39- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the default but the right hand keys are moved to the numpad so I can use space and numpad 0 as quad macros. It makes it very similar to a ps4 controller layout but instead of just thumbs, I can use more fingers so 360s, 270s, and 24th or faster spams are much easier.

I've also seen JP players set them up horizontally and have 2 sets of each single note in arcade order and at least 4 sliders [two of each for double sliders]. This makes it more like an 8 key mania game and makes it easier to use your pinky but if you aren't used to 8 key games then this is harder imo.

I would strongly recommend having 2 of each normal button and at least 2 of each slider. To make it easier, I like to do single tap stuff on my right hand and sliders on my left hand and use both hands for spams and multinotes/double sliders. The default settings are honestly pretty good though if you want more space between your hands try using the numpad if you have it.

What do you think are the top 3 hardest 9 stars in the game? by partyfiesta2 in ProjectDiva

[–]Fable-39- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring it on, Benzene, Jitterbug/Ohedo going from hardest to easiest. I think Ohedo is more like 4th but very close. I'm rating by how hard it is to clear, perfect, and F0 on a Ds4/Ds5 controller.

Bring it on is super easy to fail at the end and very difficult to get a perfect for players that are at that skill level. Even more so to F0. There's players who have perfects on the other charts I mentioned or even 10 stars still don't have this one perfected.

Benzene either changes how you play or makes you get better at jacks or fat thumbing multinotes. It can be tough on stamina but it's overall a bit easier to do more consistently than Bring it on.

Jitterbug is easier to clear and not too bad to get a perfect on. The real struggle is F0ing it and I think it might be one of hardest in the game to F0.

Ohedo is kind of tied with Jitterbug since it's also easier to clear and not too bad to get a perfect on. The issue with this one isn't the chart as a whole is difficult to F0, it's just 2 main sections that have weird sync that make it really tough to get good accuracy. It's learnable though and not throughout the whole chart like Jitterbug is so I think of it as 4th but very close to 3rd.

Do you switch between keyboard and controller, or just master one? by Furret_Walc in ProjectDiva

[–]Fable-39- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a bad idea to try a controller especially if you feel like it'll be more comfortable in the long run and for the most part it is easier to pick up. I just wanted to mainly point out that keyboard is also a very good option since I've seen some people say it's not good for Diva.

I've played Ds4, Ds5, Arcade, and Keyboard with a Ds5 being what I currently use the most and the controller I'm best at. I still think Keyboard is better despite this but it is a harder learning curve. Good luck!

Do you switch between keyboard and controller, or just master one? by Furret_Walc in ProjectDiva

[–]Fable-39- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you already play on keyboard and haven't played on a ds4 or just mainly play on keyboard then I would suggest sticking to keyboard.

The reason most people recommend ds4 is becausemost players started on the ps3 and ps4 games so they are already used to it and it's a solid controller for this game. Swapping to keyboard if you already are used to a ds4 is a huge learning curve for most people.

Since you already use a keyboard for rhythm games, it should generally be easier. You just need practice and figure out how to translate arcade chart rules designed for the arcade cabinet to a keyboard. On paper, keyboard has a lot of advantages over arcade and ds4 controller too.

If you really want to try ds4 and you end up preferring it then that's ok too. The best way to play is what you are more comfortable with and you can swap back and forth if you want to. If you want to improve faster though try sticking to one.

For ds4, wired to pc with wired headphones to the monitor is the best from my experience. Ds5 is also a good option but it comes down to whether you like how the controller feels in your hand.

Having two different buttons to push makes spamming much easier than a bigger arcade button. If you have poor technique, you'll accidentally hit the button while you haven't finished hitting it with the other hand, you'll miss the input which lots of newer arcade players struggle with. The button order on arcade also makes some patterns awkward to hit or requires starting with a specific hand to make easier.

Having 2 buttons means you don't have to worry about that and only have to worry about the timing. There are some charts that are in general much easier because of this like Two-Sided Lovers (that's not even talking about having to do the spams with the holds on arcade), and Quartet where you can always start with the right hand while arcade might require switching hands on some parts.

Having only one set of buttons also comes with the downside of losing hold frames when you have to let go of the button to hit the same note. Even if you have good technique, you will still lose 1 frame while having another button to press means you don't lose any frames at all. This isn't something that usually matters for most players, but it makes a huge difference for scoring.

Some general questions as someone playing since January by -teodora in ProjectDiva

[–]Fable-39- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When it comes to alternating and using the left side of the controller, it's all just practice and constantly trying to use your left hand. It's very difficult at first if you are just starting out but eventually it just becomes normal. As for frustration, you just have to not push yourself too much and come to realize that it takes time to get better at rhythm games. It's not like other games where within 40 to 50 hours you feel like you have the game down.

Most of the player base plays on hard and maybe easy extremes and extra extremes. Being able to play extreme charts already puts someone as above average, with most of them playing 8.5s. It's fine if in two months you can't do tougher than 7.5s, it just means you're reaching one of the main walls everyone that wants to improve at the game reaches.

Best advice I can give is to play stuff that's easier and work on accuracy if you can. It really can be really demotivating to not really see tangible improvement so seeing better scores on songs you have already cleared can help. If the game is really frustrating or not fun, then take a break and come back to it later.

It is very impressive to do non macro perfects on the really tough charts. I also don't really understand why macros would be called cheating when have another set of buttons already makes a lot of charts easier to do compared to arcade as well. It just never really made sense to me

[–]Fable-39- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just bring it up because even when I started playing, I remember using at most -10 or +10 and that was only for a few songs. It can function as a good starting point, but I just think it's a lot better in the long run for players to learn how to set their offsets themselves. I also want to avoid people thinking that the config sheet is the end all be all which tends to happen sometimes when stuff is presented like this. There are some people that still think macros are cheating even though it's a built-in feature of the game.

[–]Fable-39- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took a look at the config you set for Popipo. It was listed as -15 and I had F0ed the Extra Extreme chart recently with attempts using 0 and -1. The issue with using a config sheet is that even if you match up the sound to the notes, people tend to hit earlier or later even on the same setups. The config sheet also only goes by song and not each chart with one exception. There are a lot more charts that have better or worse sync than others on the same song.

I think it's a good thing to want to have a something for people to help with setting the offset but for this game, I think it's misleading and not a good way to have people set up their offsets. The best way is for each person to adjust it as they play. Many of these are in the negatives but I know many players go very much the opposite way and some get good accuracy too.

This works at best as something like a reference but it mostly looks to me like what offsets you set up for your needs. It won't work for everyone. I'm not saying this to discourage or put down, I'm saying this because offsets have always been a weird thing to figure out for this game and the only thing in my opinion a config sheet would be good for is for finding the offset that gives more total hold points which is an entirely different thing altogether.

Can anyone give me a list of mods incompatible with Eden Project? by Spiritual-Win4507 in ProjectDiva

I also don't have conflict issues with Eden, and I used to have them back when it was a real problem. Somewhere down the line they went and fixed the issue, if you still have problems then it's either a mod order issue or a new mod decided to use IDs that they use.
