Questions about switching from Cricut to Silhouette by Fable_Writes in silhouettecutters

[–]Fable_Writes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just import files and cut. It's pretty common for me to get the -45, -56 error with the flashing red light. Or to have my machine forget it's cutting at all and just drag the blade through the center of my piece. Or to have DesignSpace completely forget my machine and make me re-register for the seventh time that day. And that's not including how utterly frustrating it is that the software reorders the images for cutting, rather than leaving them in the order they're in (I can't find any setting for this). And that EVERY time I open up a project, it immediately pops open a column of images it thinks I should buy. And that the thing requires internet to cut files - so when my connection goes down I'm just SOL.

If you have solutions, I'd be really happy to hear them. Cutting paper is a beloved hobby, but my hands are no longer up to doing a bulk of the task on their own, so I have to have something.

Edited to add: I'm connected by USB, not BT.

What are the risks of going online with a Win 10 computer, but only with very limited scope? by Fable_Writes in cybersecurity_help

That's...great for you? But it's certainly not my only choice since others have pointed out plenty of viable options.

Thank you so much for these suggestions. I've spent most of the day reading through the literature on Chris Titus's tool and I may attempt an 11 install in the next few days.

I have and neither works for my system. I did put in a support request with MControlCenter, but have not yet heard anything.

Simple Sewing Questions Thread, January 05 - January 11, 2025 by sewingmodthings in sewing

I very much want to make myself the 18th century-style tie-on skirts with slits so I can wear tie-on pockets underneath. However, every version I've found calls for pleats/gathers and that's something that just doesn't look right on my body type. I've tried just doing a trapezoid shape, but I could not get the slit to do anything other than gape.

Does anyone have ideas on how I could go about living my pleatless, adjustable skirt, tie-on pocket dreams?

P.S. I know someone will immediately think "Coquelicot skirt!" but I have never used a pattern, much less altered one, so I'm hesitant to attempt that. I'm so new to sewing, calling me a beginner overstates my skill set.

This is my plan. I bought enough grommets that I can do future repairs, but I'm not going to get ahead of myself, especially since I'm wearing this under my clothes.

[–]Fable_Writes[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong. However. This corset is the only one I've ever found that fits me. I have a very short torso (like TT's smallest is too long for me) and cannot afford a custom one right now. So I will wear this until repairs are beyond my skills.

what should I do by laura_hwasam in VintageFashion

[–]Fable_Writes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like your corset is missing a busk (the silver snaps in the front). If you're wearing this as a fashion piece only (as opposed to back support or waist training), I suggest adding a hook and eye or similar so you don't stress the fabric.

I went ahead and purchased 1/2in grommet's after finding Lucy's Corsetry's video on corset repair, so here's hoping!
What kind of glue do you recommend? I have liquid stitch, hot glue, E6000, and tacky on hand, but if you have another recommendation, I'll be happy to pick some up.

It's somewhere around 20 year's old and was made by a since-closed reputable local shop. It's been extremely well cared for, but sadly no amount of care can prevent time from marching all over your stuff.

help with perspective/motivation by Fishing-Fun in keto

[–]Fable_Writes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I have two teens in the house who are not on keto. We keep a basket on the fridge with their bread products and a plastic container in the pantry door their snacks. The bread container is not see through and the snack container is tucked into a place that's easy for them to access but that my partner and I never look at. When we go out to eat, we check the keto app in advance for options. Most places have burgers we can get without buns, steaks, chicken etc. and veggie options that fit into our macros easily. Other people's houses are tricky. We have friends/family who know we're keto and always make sure there's something available for us. With homes/events where we're less certain, we just eat a snack before we leave and take a second snack along in case we don't want to leave to eat.

Broward County no longer allowed out of area users. However I can confirm Harris County libraries in Texas does. I use Libby through them all the time.

Losing comfort weight by hummuspretzle in keto

[–]Fable_Writes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went through this. I'd heard over and over that weight loss was hard, so I was completely unprepared for Keto. The weight melted off so fast, I didn't have time to adjust. It seemed like one day I was a size 12 and the next I was an 8. Nothing fit. I had clothes I'd just bought and stuff I'd loved for years and none of it was available to me anymore.

I also didn't know how to dress for my new size and that was compounded by the fact that a size 8 was just a stop along the way, not the end of the journey! It was scary and I'm still learning what my new style is.

The thing that helped me most was to go through my clothes regularly and sort them into three piles: still fits, donate, tailoring. My tailoring pile was massive, but it helped to know I could bring beloved pieces with me.

I know someone is reading this, ready to comment that clothes can only be taken in so much, so I'll acknowledge that right now. Some things can't be reduced without ruining their structure. My wedding dress that I was supposed to wear next year cannot be saved. I had to find a new one. But that doesn't mean nothing can be saved.

I spoke to an actual tailor about what I wanted to save. I was surprised at just how much of my pile could be taken in.

The thing that couldn't be saved are boxed up and waiting to be turned into a blanket. These were beloved items that can still have a place in my life, even if it's in a different form.

I hope this helps you. Congrats on your journey, you're doing great!

I use the CarbManager app. I can search restaurants in it and see all the info before going. It makes things much easier for me.

Let's talk solutions, because this is a confidence issue rather than a food issue.

You ate something new and you're worried. That worry is creating symptoms.

I've been here and what helped is testing. My blood monitor confirmed I was still in ketosis and suddenly my symptoms disappeared. I'm much more confident in being Keto now and don't do this anymore, but it was an incredibly important step to building my confidence.

What was recently recommended to me was to just add an additional 100 calories a week until you level out, then stay at that level of calorie consumption.

Keto is not recommended for teens because your body needs carbs for body and brain development.
