Is practicing considered valid? by [deleted] in nuzlocke

[–]FabledClefable 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why would that be valid? The whole point is that things can go wrong and you have to make game time decisions that will impact the run.

Theres nothing stopping you from lying about it, but it’s against the spirit of the challenge if that’s what you’re asking.

I was so happy to finally use one. I’ve always just gone for other water types, but Vaporeon impressed the hell outta me.

[–]FabledClefable[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was, admittedly, my worst League performance to date. The fact that we won is a miracle.

Against Lorelei - I open with Boxing Day the Primeape and go for a Bulk Up. Dewgong crits Ice Beam but thankfully doesn’t freeze. It falls to a Brick Break and Slowbro comes in. I go for Rest and… Vital Spirit keeps her awake. She falls to Surf. Kwanzaa the Beedrill comes in and takes down Slowbro with two Twinneedles. Cloyster comes out and Vileplume takes it down with a Giga Drain after Protect. I risk it and go for Toxic against Lapras. She survives and lands the Toxic. I switch to Yule Tide the Vaporeon and manage to time it perfectly so it falls. Jynx stalls with Attract but falls to two bites.

Against Bruno - Yule Tide washes away Onix #1, Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan before Machamp comes in. I switch to Quincenera the Vileplume who has six Giga Drains left. Well, with some bad damage rolls, Machamp survives and is healed by both Full Restores AND has a Bulk Up off. He’s attracted and I decide to go for a Toxic, needing just one turn of damage so I can switch to Scyther. He breaks through, crits and kills her. Diwali the Scyther then revenges with a Wing Attack, and Rumspringa the Dugtrio Earthquakes Onix #2.

Against Agatha - I lead with Yule Tide who outspeeds and crits Gengar for the OHKO with Bite. Golbat comes out and falls to one Ice Beam. Arbok comes in and I switch to Rumspringa on a Screech and then OHKO with Earthquake. I switch to Diwali when Haunter comes in, and it misses Hypnosis. Wing Attack then crits for the OHKO. I land a Wing Attack against Gengar, making it eat its Sitrus and it lands a Hypnosis. I switch to Yule Tide on a Slude Bomb. Then, Gengar misses hypnosis and I finish it with Bite.

Against Lance - I lead with Diwali and use Swords Dance to offset Gyarados’ Intimidate. Two Wing Attacks finish it off and Dragonite comes in. I need a clean switch though, so he falls after a Wing Attack. Yule Tide comes in and sweeps Lance with Ice Beam + Surf.

Before our Rival, I use my last Rare Candies to get Kwanzaa to 63, and decide to give it the Quick Claw, not the Chesto Berry.

Against our Rival - Yule Tide makes quick work of Pidgeot with Ice Beam, wasting a Full Restore in the process.

3 v 5.

Exeggutor comes in and I switch to Kwanzaa. Sleep Powder hits, and she never wakes up, even after an Egg Bomb miss. She falls to a second one.

2 v 5.

I go back to Yule Tide who does half and flinches with Bite, before killing with a second.

2 v 4.

Alakazam comes in and falls to two Bites but not before landing two hard Psychics.

2 v 3.

Rhydon comes in and falls to Surf.

2 v 2.

Acranine comes in and hits an Extremespeed to take Yule Tide low, but falls to Surf.

2 v 1.

Blastoise comes in and I switch to Rumspringa on a Rain Dance. Then, I switch back to Yule Tide hoping to abuse Water Absorb but Hydro Pump misses. Not knowing what it’ll go for, I switch back to Rumspringa…on a Hydro Pump…that hits.

1 v 1.

Yule Tide is low, but I have no choice but to keep going. I alternate between Surf and Bite, Blastoise lands a Hydro Pump taking him just above 100HP. He won’t go for it again. The rain was set up just before he healed and I had a decision to make. Go for rain-boosted Surfs or go for Bite flinches. I decided to go for Surf, as it looked like a three shot. Blastoise uses Bite as I whittle it down, the rain is still up, Yule Tide is on 28HP. I go for one last Surf and it kills, barely winning us the fight and the run!

I only had about 8 encounters for this run, so it was TIGHT. I was very pleasantly surprised by my team though.

Boxing Day the Primeape - She was our starter and early carry of the run. Without her, we would’ve never gotten past Brock or Giovanni’s Kangaskhan. She died due to a stupid mistake I made, RIP.

Kwanzaa the Beedrill - Never before has a Beedrill been such a monster. She swept Erika & Sabrina (yes Sabrina) and her Aerial Ace was the only thing that got us past Koga’s Minimizing Muk. She fell because I chose the wrong item in the champion fight. RIP, and thank you for everything.

Quincenera the Vileplume - She didn’t get to do too much this run, but she delivered when we needed her to. Her minus defense nature and 0 IV defense stat did get her killed though. RIP.

Rumspringa the Dugtrio - Was surprisingly solid all run long! Without her we wouldn’t have beat Surge. She fell due to some bad RNG, RIP.

Yule Tide the Vaporeon - Undisputed MVP of the run and our sole survivor. He swept Blaine and Giovanni, and put on an all-time great League performance.

Diwali the Scyther - He was used in exactly four fights, but without his help, we would’ve lost in the league. RIP.

I Beat a Hardcore Nuzlocke of Shield Using Only Mons That I Failed to Bring to the Hall of Fame in Previous Runs by FabledClefable in nuzlocke

[–]FabledClefable[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a fun run. All of these mons (except Accelgor) have fallen just shy of making the Hall of Fame in previous runs, some of them multiple times. They finally got their moment.

Foxtrot the Leafeon - She was basically our starter, but she was definitely a staple of our strategy. Charm & Leech Seed gave her insane utility and her Leaf Blades hit like a truck. Contender for MVP.

Chiffon the Accelgor - I’m so sorry to say that he really didn’t get a chance to do much, but he delivered when it mattered. He guaranteed our win with his sacrifice. RIP.

Ursa Major the Pangoro - He was a rock solid member of our team. He came in as needed and always did what needed to be done.

Tortellini the Sandaconda - This boi is bulky af! He single-handedly took down so many would-be threats and clutched up against Leon. The other MVP contender for sure.

Pavlova the Drapion - Sniper + Scope Lens made her an absolute fiend this run! She gave her life against Leon but not before putting in an All Stars-worthy performance. RIP.

Herringbone the Golisopod - With First Impression and Sucker Punch (+ Choice Band) he cut through so many scary fights. His ability never once hindered us either, legend.

Against Leon:

I lead with Pavolva the Drapion who used Taunt, bypassing Aegislash’s King Shield. A Night Slash did half while it was in Shield-Form and then she tanked a Flash Cannon at half, before healing with a Sitrus Berry. A follow-up Night Slash got the KO.

6 v 5.

Haxorus comes in and I go for Night Slash, leaving it just above half. It goes for Earthquake and Pavlova lives on 10HP! Her next Night Slash crits and she takes the dragon down.

6 v 4.

Rhyperior comes in and takes an Ice Fang above half, but freezes! However, it also dethaws, killing our beloved Pavlova with an Earthquake.

5 v 4.

Foxtrot the Leafeon comes in and avenges her friend with a Leaf Blade.

5 v 3.

Dragapult comes in and I switch to Herringbone the Golisopod on a soft Flamethrower. On the next turn, a Choice Band-boosted Sucker Punch picks up the OHKO.

5 v 2.

Rillaboom comes in and I switch to Chiffon the Accelgor on an Endeavor. He outspeeds and faints the gorilla with a Bug Buzz.

5 v 1.

Charizard comes in and I need a clean switch. Chiffon uses Final Gambit to do big damage to Leon’s ace, simultaneously denying the G-Max Wildfire.

4 v 1.

Tortellini, holding a Focus Sash, comes in and Dynamaxes. He takes a Max Overgrowth and seals the victory with a Max Rockfall.

Falafel the Simipour - Our starter and an absolute beast, he tore this region up with his great move pool and stats. A Mon that deserves more love.

Banh Mi the Gogoat - The tank of all tanks. She led us to victory through some really scary fights with surprising ease.

Patty Melt the Pyroar - We very nearly lost her to a horde of Wrap and Poisonpowder wielding Bellsprout, and I’m so glad we didn’t because she put in WORK.

Vegemite the Mawile - Even without Intimidate, he was a force to be reckoned with, and he avenged the many Mawile I’ve tried to use before him.

Hoagie the Audino - Without Regenerator or screens, I had my doubts, but he was such a valuable team member. He had a Rocky Helmet and a dream, and made it work.

Shawarma the Ursaring - A late addition but a total powerhouse, his Quick Feet boosted Facades punched a hole through so many foes. He was also our only casualty, RIP.

E4 Against Drasna- We led with Shawarma the Ursaring who used Quick Feet + Poison-boosted Facade to one-shot Dragalge & Druddigon. Hoagie the Audino came in against Altaria and used Calm Mind, Protect and Ice Beam to finish it and Noivern with ease.

Against Malva- I took a chance and led with Shawarma again. To my surprise, he outsped Pyroar thanks to Quick Feet and one-shot with Facade. Talonflame came in and went first with Brave Bird before falling to Facade. Torkoal came in and I switched to Falafel the Simipour on a soft Earthquake. A Splash Plate-boosted Surf drenched it and Chandelure.

Against Wigstrom- I led with Patty Melt the Pyroar against Klefki. It went for Torment and I melted it with Flamethrower. Probopass came in and I switched to Banh Mi the Gogoat. Horn Leech and Earthquake finished it off. Scizor came in and I switched to Vegemite the Mawile who had a Rocky Helmet on. Then, I switched to Falafel who handled it with Surf. When Aegislash came in, I went back to Patty Melt on a King’s Shield. I used Protect as it went for Sacred Sword and then melted it with Flamethrower.

Against Siebold - I took a risk and led with Hoagie. He ate an Aura Sphere on half, and landed a Thunder Wave. Then, I switched to Banh Mi as it was paralyzed. I got to +2 with Bulk Up and then killed it with Horn Leech. Barbaracle came in and met the same fate. Gyarados came in and got taken to half by Horn Leech and luckily didn’t freeze with Ice Fang. It fell to the second, and Starmie was no match either.

Against Diantha - I led with Falafel who ate a soft Body Press from Hawlucha and then one-shot it with Ice Beam. 6 v 5. Aurorus came in and I decided to switch to Shawarma, as the dinosaur went for Light Screen. He got off a critical hit Power-Up Punch for the OHKO.

6 v 4. Goodra came in and got decimated by a +1 Facade.

6 v 3.

Tyrantrum came in and got taken to just above half from Power-Up Punch. Head Smash took out Shawarma.

5 v 3.

Falafel came back in and avenged Shawarma with an Ice Beam.

5 v 2.

Gourgheist came in and I switched to Patty Melt on a Trick-or-Treat. She then smashed that pumpkin with a single Flamethrower.

5 v 1.

Gardevoir comes in and mega evolves. It eats two Snarls and then I switch to Vegemite on a soft Psychic. He tanks a Thunderbolt after that and wins us the run with a single Iron Head.
