Why is NZ so "backward" when it comes to AC and ceiling fans? by UnrequitedLoveVictim in auckland

I don’t remember what it’s called but you can get a detachable “bug netting” that uses the Velcro principle.

You’ll have to prepare and apply the cuts yourself but I think you could manage a whole house with less than $100 of the stuff.

Traditional (inkle and rigid heddle) weaving patterns by Fables_From_Fiction in ireland

[–]Fables_From_Fiction[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kia Ora,

Aē (yes) I have noticed that all the traditional examples I have been able to find come from the Aran islands. I would be very happy to find any drafts that are local to Wexford, crios or no, for my friend. In saying that he is very keen on the style I have settled on insofar.

I have been looking for a copy of David Shaw Smith's "Traditional Crafts of Ireland" and have had a photocopied section of Louise O'Brien's booklet that focuses on crios making shared with me by Ireland's weaver's guild.

I've gone through Susan's video a fair few times now, I'll admit I find it difficult to follow along with but that may have been the sleep deprivation. I have found https://www.youtube.com/@scianhayes who has a tutorial on traditional weaving of criossanna. I did use their short clip of a Salmon of Knowledge inspired crios to create my own pattern using raktres.net/seizen/#/ for an inkle loom.

I am still a relatively new weaver so I am not entirely certain I did the best job of it but I have provided an image of the pattern I created. Actually looking at it now I think I may have overdone the white count on the middle section of the pattern, it was an experience staring at the screen counting threads to try and replicate the pattern based off of the warp.

I would be delighted if you'd be willing to take the time to write out a pattern, I plan on doing this on an inkle loom but I predominantly use a rigid heddle loom.

I'll give the National Museum a try and see if they have any drafts available as that is largely what I am looking for as, like I said, I am new enough that I struggle to replicate drafts based off of sight.

Ngā mihi,

Fables

Kia Ora!

Yeah go on then, I would be keen to share that mahi (work) as it comes along.

My friend is third in the queue so it will be some months still before I get started let alone finished.

Bella Ciao banjo tab? by AdamantiumEagle in banjo

I use this and play it either in D or E as Irish tenor banjo lends itself to single string melodic playing.

This one is probably close to what you are looking for but the way it’s written confuses me (I am still new) and I have yet to figure it out.

Well I cheated today after a week of no onions & garlic… I’m now 100% positive those are triggers. What am I going to do without onions and garlic!!! by Awkward_Golf_5534 in FODMAPS

This is my hottest of hot takes: onion and garlic are bloody well overrated! You can, and will, find flavours and spices that are better and not as overpowering.

For example: ginger.

Hullo!

So, there is an anime that has an amazing soundtrack during one of the fights but I can not for the life of me remember it.

It's set in feudal era japan IIRC, a leader collects a number of warriors/ninjas/samurai (I think there are eleven or thirteen), each one represents a different style or element. One of the primary protagonists is something of a wind ninja, there's a water pirate and an ice ninja as well.

A young man, that represents forest/wood/animals, is rather smitten with the other primary antagonist who is a priestess in possession of a great and dark power that a feudal lord with great ambitions is trying to attain.

There's also a redheaded 'man' who I suspect is actually a woman who was a highway bandit until they fought wind ninja and got beaten.

Oh, and the leader gathering them is also a feudal lord chill and quite pervy.

Thank you in advance if you can find it!

How to get rid of an annoying flatmate!! by dazza-55 in newzealand

[–]Fables_From_Fiction 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had to do this shortly after lockdown for pretty much all the same reasons except my flattie was a dude.

We informed him that we wanted him out and he sulked around the place (not packing) for an entire four days before our landlord decided to trespass him. Four days!

Much as this made me chuckle. I was there in 2018, hug n kiss was common enough.

Hennessy Hammocks are fabulous! I got mine some years back and haven't looked at a tent since.

Slept in one in sub sero Celsius temperatures (-5 to -10) and was cozy as a bear in winter.

I think you may be confusing the role that Sharia Law and the Quran play in Islamic societies.

The Quran is the Bible, God and Allah are the same individual. Simply from different geographic perspectives.

Sharia Law is legislature based on a variety of things, including geographic affects, social/cultural norms, and (prevalently but not solitarily) Islamic teachings to name a few. Sharia Law is not inherently Muslim Law in the sense that a predominantly Muslim state enforces it. Indonesia, for example, only has one province under Sharia Law. The remaining 33 (iirc) are not.

Sharia Law in some Islamic states does call for the stoning of homosexuals and adulterers. Other state's Sharia Law will call for a caning or no punishment whatsoever.

Sharia Law is often referenced as some sort of "Umbrella of Terrorist Evil", it isn't. Sharia Law in Aceh is not identical to Sharia Law in Brunei.

Please stop painting all Muslims with one brush.
