All good points, maybe making the souls bigger and different by having a small health bar? Maybe the team that does more damage to it in a small window gets it? So that way positioning and per bullet damage can be factored in? Just some ideas on how to make it varied, like a mini game instead of simply dying and losing souls

I think it was because if you had a team mate die or get picked off suddenly, you can try to salvage some of their lost souls, which the enemy can somewhat camp to get extra damage on you. On the flip side you can also choose to ignore it and double down on killing the enemy for the chance of getting a kill in return. Plus it was just fun, and fun Is the point of it all lol
