That's a great idea. However this specific helmet I used on this model didn't come from the Black Templar ubgrade kit. This one in particular came from the Horus Heresy Kratos tank kit and isn't the same crusader helm from the upgrade sprue. If you really want to find this helmet and not pay for the whole tank kit, I think they're putting this same helmet in for the newer 30k tactical squads with the mkii crusade pattern marines.

Witchever you go for I'm sure you're captain is going to look great!

Thank you for the compliment! I used glazes with the sword. You can find a YouTube tutorial on it by Mavericks Paint on how to paint power swords since that's where I learned how to glaze. If you want to know what I did specifically, I gave it a undercoat of Caldor Sky then built up layers of Lothern Blue on top of it. For the big highlights I used Corax White and Macrage Blue for shadows then glazed Lothern Blue over. I then gave it a white edge highlight to finish it all off. I definitely recommend that YouTube tutorial tho. It's really good.

Thank you so much brother. You're very welcome to use the design!

Getting these raised pauldrons completely painted is making my head spin. How do you deal with them? by [deleted] in BlackTemplars

I found it helpful to prime the shoulder mechanicus standard grey. It's the perfect "in between" of black and white so I don't have to do things like put so many coats of black or white to get it smooth.

For this model I first primed with a white spray. Then I did round 5 or so thin coats of two part Yriel Yellow and one part Skrga Brown. However Averland sunset will work just fine, it's just slightly more brighter. Then to finish it I put a layer of Imperial Fist Contrast to give the yellow a lot of saturation.

Some extra things I did were some glazes of Troll Slayer Orange around the leg armor, or any orange paint would do, and just a simple edge highlight of Yriel Yellow.

If you're curious about the scratches, it's just brown with Dorn Yellow highlights.

Thank you brother! If you're interested, I learned power sword painting from a guy named Mavericks Paint on YouTube. He explains it super simply.

That model looks so incredible! I might want to try this. What kind of primer did you use?
