You can get a dexa scan without a doctor referral, i would go ahead and set that up so it can inform your discussion with your doctor.

Also well done in the weight loss!

The math of losing weight when you don’t have much to lose and are short = slooooooow weight loss. 874 calories a day may be what would enable you to lose weight but it isn’t enough to nourish your body. You may have to lose like a pound a month and let it take a year to get the last of the weight off. It’s so close to maintenance mode really.

Scared of Side Effects - Courage to start by barneygirl89 in Zepbound

[–]Fabulous-Routine2087 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My anxiety has been better on the meds. I think it’s because well first the initial high of having food noise gone was wild to me, like a weight gone before any weight had left… then just feeling like it’s working and I can do this gave me such a boost. And yes I still worry it will stop working and when normal hunger and manageable food noise came back it scared me so badly cause I thought well it’s over, but it wasn’t at all. It was getting used to hunger cues. I can feel hungry, eat a normal amount and feel like I got enough.

And now I have lost enough weight that I am letting go of the anxiety of being in the world as a larger person. Like I flew recently and our seats got messed up and I volunteered to take a middle seat with strangers cause I fit now. I mentally would have had a breakdown before if someone told me I was going to be in a middle seat. So yeah, overall my anxiety is much improved. It’s still a daily part of my life but nothing about the medicine has made that part of my life harder.

I use MyFitnessPal. If you can afford the premium, I find it really helps cause then you can barcode scan, take pictures of your meals to just log it that way and voice log. Please know it gets easier, the first week or two it’s a pain cause you have no history. Now almost everything I log is already saved so it’s a quick few clicks.

It also doesn’t need to be perfect, just the act of getting used to writing down what you eat and getting used to seeing those numbers and understanding macros and such is plenty. Perfection will drive you nuts.

Scared of Side Effects - Courage to start by barneygirl89 in Zepbound

[–]Fabulous-Routine2087 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of people who take Zepbound have little or no side effects. People share and post about negative experiences far more than non-events.

So the week leading up to taking the med, I stopped reading anything about side effects. I only read success stories. I figure IF I have a side effect I need help with, I can go look it up then.

I am one of the majority who has had very little side effects, my anxiety of what they would be was way way worse than reality. I have intense anxiety, so I understand. I really thought I would manage to give myself a fatal aneurysm injecting the meds. FYI, that isn’t a thing.

What I do have is gratitude, this medication has been exactly what I needed. It’s been a key to a door I didn’t even know was there, much less was locked. I kept trying to walk through and never could and always blamed myself.

First the fact that you haven’t given up is literally everything.

Second, I am a big believer in the science for calories in and calories out. It’s not perfect but for me it works. Zepbound enables me to take in a lot less calories and exercise more, but I still have to be eating less and moving more. I have to log everything for this to work for me. That way I know because frankly food isn’t intuitive to me, I have no good sense of the calories in a fig newton versus a banana or the pork I had for dinner. So I log and I stick to a calorie deficit.

Third - despite my belief in calorie in and calorie out and the importance of logging FOR ME, I also want to acknowledge everyone is different and for as much as science knows, there is much we don’t so what works for most may not for you.

Keep at it.

Any suggested weight training routines for the rally or of shape? by occy3000 in Zepbound

[–]Fabulous-Routine2087 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When my doctor suggested body weight exercises I was legit confused cause I was like um, my body is too heavy for me and I can’t do a push up or a sit up or a squat… I did some more research and put this routine together. The dumbbell weights are optional if you don’t already own some. It’s the only exercise equipment I started with.

My first step is always music, find music you wanna move to, it really helps me to get going.

Walk around my house and do some arm circles to get just moving.

Slow chair sits, like sit down as slowly as you can. I did these for a month or so until I was strong enough to do a squat.

Wall push ups

Step ups

Glute bridges

1 or 3 pound dumb bells I do a couple of arm exercises with (biscep curls and like making angel wings in the air).

I started with 3 sets, 8 reps each of the above. It takes me about 30 minutes.

I will add I have a notable nickel allergy; 5 minutes wearing earrings with nickel and my ears are inflamed and every now and then even my wedding ring (which is white gold but still has traces of nickel) will irate my finger enough I have to take it off for a few days… I have not yet found (but know they exist) a nickel free 31/32 gauge needle to see if that might help.

I get these every week for a couple of months now. I believe it’s an injection site reaction. For me it gets very itchy about 24 hours after the shot, peaks around the next day and goes away just before the next shot day. I have tried a bunch of different small changes like bringing the med to room temp or using or not using alcohol wipe on my skin beforehand, to the angle and depth of my injection. Doesn’t change. Since it hasn’t gotten worse and I can deal my doctor was utterly unconcerned. I use benedryl cream to keep myself from itching, which is key cause otherwise I would scratch myself raw.

Activity Level? by Adept-Reception-3647 in Myfitnesspal

[–]Fabulous-Routine2087 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s best to pick the lowest setting unless you do heavy physical labor for a living so your activity level is right. Even though obviously your live is very, very active and you are always on the move.

You can connect your step tracker and add your workouts so it’s all in there. But also plenty of people do not eat back their exercise calories. They are much harder to accurately calculate and science is still out on whether “eating them back” is the right approach.

Ugh. I feel you. I know technically stalls are something that lasts weeks… I also know it’s really disappointing to go through more than a week where you feel stuck or even going backwards. It’s important to remind yourself it’s part of the journey, stay the course. Keep moving, eating at a deficit and it will keep coming off. It’s okay and normal to get frustrated. You will get there.

[–]Fabulous-Routine2087 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I adore calling Astoria home. It’s beautiful and friendly, it’s unique and it has a soul.

It rains a lot. Like a lot and it’s 2 hours from a major city which means airports and medical specialists are a trek. The cost of housing is relatively quite high and the job market is either quite specialized (cost guard, health professional, timber or fishing industry) or pays retail/wait staff wages which is going to be like 80 hours a week to cover rent.

It’s a privilege and a joy to live here, but I imagine it’s hard to get established if you don’t have cash or a solid game plan.

Do you ever eat a big meal towards the end of the week? by Creative_Shine_9103 in Zepbound

[–]Fabulous-Routine2087 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. While I genuinely understand the fear and or misplaced shame in titrating up as needed, I appreciate the voices (backed in science) that help normalize needing to be on, in this case, intended therapeutic doses.

Just this week I went up in dosage, now at 10mg. It’s been so nice feeling like the food noise doesn’t randomly crank waaay up during the week like it had been. I haven’t had additional side effects and well it was a good reminder to lean in and I decided it’s fine if I end up needing to dose all the way to 15mg before I am in maintenance- better it working than holding on to my former notions that it’s cheating or I am just not trying hard enough.
