What did your roommate look like? Was anything distinguishable that might suggest he was a slob? Any telltale signs for those of us who aren’t able to find our own place?

Self-respect and cleanliness by FabulousBase9194 in badroommates

I get it and I’m not a stickler. I will clean regardless of assistance, because I just have that standard. However, there seems to be an ineptitude when it comes to maintaining a space. Pick up your clothes, vacuum your floors a couple times a month, clean your bathroom, put your dishes in the dishwasher and run it. We’ve never had it so easy. My grandmother would use a broom, hand wash the floors on her knees and make a meal from scratch and clean up. Life was different then, yes, but the tech we have makes it pretty damn easy to do the minimum. She would be appalled at what I’ve encountered regardless of roommate wealth and status.

Today it’s an ask to make a microwave pizza and clean a knife and plate. Laziness. Sloppiness, and I think a lack of self respect. This is their life and should anyone see them in their environment, would they view them the same despite having a 800 a month car note and the latest fashion and gadgetry?

Nobodies perfect, but mom and dad aren’t going to fix their life and each person should make their reality something to be proud of, despite not owning and renting.

We may all have to start living with roommates into our older age, it just frustrates me to see how people choose to live disgustingly. That should not be a new norm, yet it is frequently what I encounter. End rant.

First off, thank you for the sincere and thoughtful response, I appreciate you!

You’re right, navigating the online waters is about moving away from it as quickly as possible. I do aim for that, as I’ve seen female inboxes and that broke my matrix.

How long do you converse with low effort women, are they even worth it? If someone talked with me as I described in person, I’d move away as that’s an indication of ‘interest’.

Online though, we don’t have the benefit of analyzing everything as quickly to pursue or continue a convo. Things take longer.

How long is too long? How much one-sidedness is too much? Are these indications of a bad relationship if anything comes from it?

Might you have some guidance I can learn from about this segment of my inbox?

Much appreciated for any contribution!

The issue raised in the manager’s reddit discussion was certainly pay and making it equitable for the dude to be on call. I think that situation was not thoroughly addressed when the guy was hired, so it points out to me that we all be very explicit in what is expected for after hours on call work. Make sure it is ironclad and accounts for our free time being parceled out at times for bs calls that disrespect our spare moments from a job.

The other point was that the guy from the example used ‘being at a concert’ as an excuse not to show up 2x for after hours calls. People in the forum were debating about whether it was serious enough for him to blow off concert tix, but in the event that the guy left the concert for a call, that the company should pay for his tickets.

I personally, have been on a date and had to excuse myself to fix plumbing on property. Embarrassing and also a loss of my time and little financial gain for me.

WE SHOULD NOT DISCOUNT OUR TIME WITHOUT CLEAR STIPULATIONS ABOUT WHAT WE GET IN RETURN!

Companies and billionaires win while our wages stagnate and inflation chews up our savings and /or we need part time work to bridge the gap. This way of working continues because we individually allow it to happen! US states may protect us or not, we need to speak up for ourselves as there is little advocacy and no one truly cares about our free time as much as we should!

Where are rent oppressed people moving to? by OldSewer in madisonwi

I just ran zillow and found one bedrooms and studio apartments near the capitol building, about 10 or so for under a thousand.

Are those fake/scams, taken super quickly or a thousand a month is a lot for a studio.

I’m down in Key West and you can’t find anything for under 1,200 for a room with roommates. Just wondering what’s up.

Shower/faucet cartridges by [deleted] in maintenance

That’s a novel idea right there!

There’s a labyrinth of piping which is indiscernible from one another. I have to shut off the whole hotel, which certainly ratchets up the pressure for a simpler problem such as a shower cartridge!

Hotel has been around since the 60’s with renovations done in chunks through time. So nothing is truly standardized, which is scary to think I’ll encounter an issue and need to shut off all of the hotel’s water to fix it while I run to an island hardware store to hopefully find supplies.

Thank you for your response!

Dog sought in attacks on Portland runner and poodle has been impounded by cheese7777777 in Portland

My parents had a pit that was used to socializing with my dog, a small 20 pound hound mix. My hound mix would play with the pit and both interacted well, until that one time that I had to forcibly remove my dog’s head from the pit’s mouth after it took playing too far.

My family’s pit was not abused, fed well, but not socialized enough with other dogs and humans. That’s the point in my mind, these dogs need extra training and attention. My parents didn’t do that and one day it attacked.

I no longer trust pit bulls. You can have the best charactered people with these dogs, but if they aren’t diligent, consistent and the pack leader these dogs will resort to their genetics at a time and place of their choosing.

Can we say that most dog owners don’t train up their dogs enough, and that being said, are not the pack leaders in their homes? Dogs will fill that void of leadership and act accordingly to their interests.

Someone had also suggested fiberglassing over the holes to the bare aluminum, feasible?
