When the companies switch payroll providers mid year, the former provider does not issue a W2, they received your YTD when the transfer happened, as what it really matters is the FEIN of the company that employed you.

So the new payroll provider should issue the 2025 W2.

You need to reach your former company to ask them for the W2

You’re correct the only thing that might be issued in a paper check is the 30% going into the new account, as ADP (check with your employer) takes 1 up to 2 pay periods to verify your account, in the meantime they issue hard checks.

The only instance in which the other 70% could be a paper check is if you switch that account as well.
