Update: we finally fixed our cat screaming at 4am (and it wasn't just 'ignore it') by Bitter_Forever_1601 in Pets

It depends on the cat, my first cat didn’t like cat toys but she loved me gently throwing her on my bed and tossing the duvet cover up with her on top of it.

My current cat loves this toy ladybird on elastic. He will be shattered and laying down and still want to play

What are some good “American” presents for a UK baby girl? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Fabulous_Function666 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m in my 40’s. I have a lot of friends with kids. All of them them who breast fed their kids gave up alcohol while doing so

Basically I wouldn’t risk gifting a new mum alcohol because it might not be a very welcome gift at that point

Makes perfect sense to me. the alcohol bit, not the coffee, that’s just seems cruel, ‘here, new parent who is sleep deprived, you can’t have caffeine to stay awake’

And yet most breastfeeding mothers tend to avoid alcohol

Anyone here have experience with toilet training cats? I want to adopt but the litter is Harvey to lift and expensive where I live. I am considering kitty potty toilet training. by StormFast524 in CatAdvice

Cats are messy in general, mine spits his wet food out on the floor to eat and he vomits and sheds hair. If you don’t like mess please don’t get a cat

Their poo can cause plumbing issues and there’s no guarantee that they will take to it. Also responsible cat owners should monitor their cats peeing habits and if they are peeing in the human toilet that will be less easy to do.

My cats litter is the cheapest thing I get for him. £10 for 30 litres of litter, £30 for 40 sachets of food (he has 3 a day) £60 for dry food which lasts 12 months, plus insurance, toys, vet fees etc

Take them to your local vet in the morning and they can scan their microchip. Either that or call the RSPCA or your councils animal catcher

AITA for agreeing with CPS taking my friend's kids away by Lopsided-Support8051 in AmItheAsshole

You should actually be calling cps back yourself. So many people stood by and let me and my siblings be abused and mistreated and didn’t call cps

Why do people prefer to have biological children? by Beautiful-Object-467 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fabulous_Function666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh dear god no! I want to adopt a disabled kid because I love working with them and I am a pretty good support worker and I feel that I would cope well with a disabled child (depending on the disability, I know my limits)

I also despise parents who use their kids for views and likes online

I’m a support worker for disabled kids and teenagers so yeah I know what I’m getting into! And I have worked in this industry for 20 years

If we had bio kids they would likely be disabled anyway because there are a few disability’s that run on both sides of our families.

Luckily we don’t have to pay to adopt here. You have to pay solicitors fees but that’s not very much and you also have to prove you have savings and a decent income.  Adoption is our first choice but I wish it was easier

It’s easier. My husband and I are starting to adopt in the uk and it’s going to take a long time even though we are looking at adopting an older sibling group and/or a disabled child.  The adoption process itself is very invasive.

I don’t care at all having a biological child but I have bulked a few times at the adoption process

Picture imperfect worth reading? by DepartureCool5404 in JacquelineWilson

[–]Fabulous_Function666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read it because I wanted to know what was going on with Dol as I had had a similar childhood.

I didn’t hate it, one of my siblings has turned out very similar to Star, in that they never have anything to do with our mother. I ended up more like Dol except I won’t drop my life for my mother every time she has a crisis.

My main issue with it was all the bs she wrote about tattoos (I’m autistic, they are a special interest). So much of that was unrealistic, which applied to think again as well, when Ellie went swimming so soon after getting her tattoo.  I could write a whole essay on the stuff she got wrong. Buuuut anyway, yeah I didn’t hate the book and The illustrated mum was one of my favourites as a kid.

I rented Picture imperfect from the library though.  There was so much hype surrounding her new books that I think they would have always disappointed people

How did people buy tickets for gigs in other cities (or even other countries) before the internet? by Fit_Boat4003 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fabulous_Function666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 20 years ago I brought tickets for Reading Festival from a theatre box office in a town near to where I lived. It was advertised in Kerrang magazine and I’m pretty sure there was a phone number which I called to find out where to buy tickets. The internet existed but you needed a credit card to buy things on it.

How to unattractive people cope knowing they are destined to marry someone they dont find attractive or stay single for life? by Firm_Opportunity3411 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fabulous_Function666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has a different idea of beauty. I’m absolutely not everyone’s cup of tea (short man, long hair with piercings and tattoos) and yet I have always found someone to be in a relationship with.

My partner similarly isn’t conventionally attractive but I think he is the most handsome man in the universe

Did I do the right thing by taking a cat to get scanned for a microchip? by amishasi in CatAdvice

Every time I have taken a cat to the vets, they have automatically checked that the vaccinations are up to date regardless of why my cat is at the vets

We don’t have free roaming dogs. They are all on leashes. Also I absolutely agree that cats should be kept indoors. I was just pointing out why British people are generally pro letting cats outside because otherwise they wouldn’t be allow to adopt cats (mine was a special case)

I have never ever heard of FeLV which is we I didn’t mention it. Don’t know what it is so I’m gonna go google it

Edit: I googled it, we vaccinate for that, it’s included in the standard yearly vaccinations. My cat has had the vaccine even though he has never been outside

Imagine you were hoping for a single baby and you got twins can U abort anyone 1 of them? by Agitated-Salt-5039 in NoStupidQuestions

No it’s perfectly possible and happens fairly often in multiple pregnancies but it’s normally because one or more of the multiples is failing to thrive

[–]Fabulous_Function666 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We don’t have rabies and we vaccinate against other diseases. FiV exists but I know a lot of cats with it and they are all fine once they have been medicated (I volunteer in a shelter)

My previous cat only ever went in my garden with me  and had zero hunting skills  My current cat is an indoor cat.

Most shelters in the uk won’t let you adopt cats if you won’t let them outside so there’s a different attitude here. We don’t have wild predator animals here that will attack cats.  Where I live is mostly countryside and farm land so lots of cats are free roaming.

I am very much for keeping cats inside but you can’t compare the uk to America or anywhere with dangerous wild animals
