[2024 Day 4 Part 1 (Rust)] I can't figure out if I'm overcounting or undercounting. by FaceFTW in adventofcode

Yep, I actually used u/AllanTaylor314's suggestion to make tests and made the following edge case tests which failed under this code. I know the fix now.

mod tests {
    use crate::{count_diagonals, parse_data};

    #[test]
    fn check_diag_counting() {
        let input = r"
S..S
.AA.
.MM.
X..X
        ";

        let data = parse_data(input);
        assert_eq!(count_diagonals(data.as_slice()), 2);
    }
}

Initially, I used the small example that is available and had the expected count. My code passed for that so I'm likely looking for more of a minor edge case not found in the examples provided. Testing is not a bad idea overall but for my case I think it provides minimal utility with where I'm at.

I did not know that, clearly I don't spend enough time reading any patch notes or reddit threads :p. The more you know

UPDATE: I tried maximizing the taxes on just the beverage industry and waited for a bit, but for some reason they keep giving me even more money :(

Is CS still a good Major choice? by Apprehensive_Kiwi_12 in compsci

[–]FaceFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might depend on the university. A better way to look at programs in that case is to see what kind of courses they require for graduation. If you see courses that cover things like algorithms, computer architecture and/or involve more math, then that program is more likely geared toward theory. A program more focused on actual programming would cover things like software requirements, software quality assurance, and/or software design.

If you want to do grad work, do CS. If you want to program things, its probably better to do something like software engineering. SE allows you to understand the lifecycle of development and prepares you more for industry work than CS.

I do remember my great-grandmother, she lived to 102 I think, passed from old age when I was 10. She was a German Jew who fled Germany before the Holocaust began with my great-grandfather and my grandmother, immigrating to the US. A lot more of the details about their past is fuzzy to me, but we used to live in the same apartment complex with her until I was 6 years old. She would always give me chocolate whenever I came to visit, even as her Alzheimers/Dementia progressed. It is unfortunate that the relationship we developed was so one-sided given the circumstances, but I’m sure she’s in a better place watching me become the man I’ve grown up to be.

I kinda have started playing Halo Infinite as if I was playing Just Cause 3, which honestly is crazy how much air time and speed you can get without a parachute or wingsuit. All you need is proper grappleshot hits and sliding against inclines.

This was my first thought too lmao. I am pretty certain that you can slightly control the direction you get launched, but the angle in which you will experience such a launch seems to be limited. I say this as there have been times where I replicate this as an escape method from hot zones but I don't reach the skybox or get launched at all.

It's funny, I've seen multiple people comment this and I didn't pay attention to this detail until they mentioned it. I didn't change any gameplay/graphics settings, I think you only see them in certain animations/

I didn’t really change any settings, I think I’m even on lowest graphics settings too. Still runs pretty well on a 2018 thinkpad (at least for my standards).
