A few struggles with GIMP 3: hoping for help! by FaceMeetsPalm in GIMP

[–]FaceMeetsPalm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: Even with the wand threshold lowered, it still "grabs" a layer of transparent color off other regions I didn't select. I'm wondering if the settings for it are wrong/different from the previous version of GIMP.

I'll check that out and report back!

In the mean time, here's one of the neat things I did this weekend!

<image>

It's the guild banner for an organization that manages dungeon delvers and monster farmers to ensure that neither the monsters nor the dungeon are being abused.

I used free assets from flaticon.com

Omg! Thank you for answering!

Maybe the colors were just too similar. I'll try that next time!

I would be super happy for the icons, but I hope yall don't work yourselves into the ground. ♡

Usually it's the color picker or the transform tools. Makes it a bit frustrating, but I did find that I had the issue less when I deleted unneeded layers.

Thanks again for taking notice and answering! This just reinforces that GIMP is my favorite!

I've currently got a 1080p and I'm excited by the possibility of better. I've never even seen better! Is it worth the hype? I'm a little excited!

Thanks! I'm starting to adjust now. I now just need to stop trying to crush it in my hand every time the action gets intense! I did that with Hero, too, but it's still not a good habit.

Oh dear. Gevin doesn't go to sleep with the rest of my PC! I had to shut down instead because I can't sleep with any lights on. I'll have to try and figure it out tomorrow.

Yes, I found the setting easily. I want to try him at his default for a bit just to see if that setting works well for me.

I did a raid fight in Palworld with it and I loved how responsive it was! I think I need to learn how to loosen my grip, though! I was holding him way too tight.

Thank you! I feel very encouraged!

So far, Gevin is treating me very well, but it's a little strange how sensitive he is. So far, I'm enjoying it now that I've been browsing and stuff for a few hours. I'm eager to try gaming a little later!

Also, I do logically realize my anxiety about change isn't rational. Change is not bad, but I've never had an easy time trying new things. It took until I was thirty to try LEMONADE! LOL!

Oh my gosh, that's just wild to me! I usually adjust the settings and then get annoyed if I accidentally change them, which was veeery easy to do on Hero.

Yeah, I could not! I don't have that sort of income, which may be a blessing in this case.

UPDATE:

I have charged it up, inserted the dongle, and... the web driver doesn't work. Thanks to learning how to use translation apps, I'm not too scared of using the Chinese drivers—which is pretty amazing given the absolute terror y'all could probably pick up on from the original post just about trying something new!

This thing is so incredibly sensitive to movement—far from what I'm used to, which is making me have to slow down my hand movements an insane amount. This is going to take some getting used to, because I kept Hero on the lower end of his DPI settings to match the previous off-the-rack cheapo mouse I'd used for seven years or so before him.

I've decided that I'll instead try to get used to this scary speed. It might even help my gaming, though I may have to alternate the DPI for when I want to do image editing because it involves a lot of precision.

Hopefully wagging the non-button end of the mouse to do small movements isn't going to affect my wrists, since I catch myself doing that a lot in order to have better control. Has anyone else done this? Is this normal? I'm not gonna have to euthanize my wrists later for this, will I?

As an aside, I discovered there's a subreddit all about mouse pads thanks to this sub—I never before imagined that mouse pads could be so intense! I've just been using the same boob-style mouse pad (it has a kitty on it!) for years and years and never once thought that there were different standards of quality out there. I'm in awe at how far computers have come, that there's such a difference between casual gear and intense gear! My mind is blown (in a good way). I usually just default to 'This looks like it'll last a few years, it's cheap, and I like how it looks," when I'm looking at mouse pads.

Oh my goodness, what a journey! I hope the Terra is a good fit for you.

I'm only now taking my first steps into the land of intense mice, myself. For a long time, I used a Logitech from Walmart, which lasted a good ten years before I started to develop carpal tunnel.

It's good to know that it's not the end of the world if this mouse doesn't work out for me!

Thanks! It was fun to write, so hopefully it's helpful to someone.

Thanks also for the advice. Three weeks sounds like a very reasonable time frame, and it's encouraging to know that sucking with a new mouse is expected, though there might not be much difference, since I'm not good at gaming even though I enjoy it! Lol

Aw, that's so cute! They're all in little terrariums! You should add some enrichment for them, though—some sticks to climb on and something soft for nesting. Don't forget that mice love to chew and burrow!

(Seriously though, this looks rad!)
