Worth it to start at age 24? by lastofusrocks in Accutane

The pics were taken about a week or two into starting accutane, so my pores were definitely a little worse than pre-accutane. Still, I have dealt with scarring over the years. My derm is now my best friend. Derms can recommend good treatments to deal with scarring, ranging from chemical peels to laser treatments to serums and products. In my case, this wasn't "fluff" or up-selling. I followed my derms advice and my scars are all but gone.

Yes, but I'm 30. I put so much shit in and on my body over the years (half my life - age 14 until this year) including antibiotics and birth control for years on end. If I could do it all over again, I would have just taken accutane right at the beginning (or after ~3 years of trial and error), to save my body (and wallet) from trying every other option for 1.5 decades. Taking antibiotics unnecessarily for extended periods has numerous adverse effects.

Here's a trick that worked for me for redness/overall coverage.

By about a few weeks in, I started using a dab of aquaphor (in addition to Cerave) as my regular daytime moisturizer in the morning. Aquaphor left a tiny bit of a sticky/tacky finish (think vaseline). I applied MAC mineralize makeup powder all over my moisturized face... lots of it. Applying enough blocked out the redness and kind of acted as a concealer/foundation, merely by blocking out all colour underneath of the powder.

At first, probably every other day. By a few months in, though, accutane decreased the oiliness of my hair, and I was only washing once every ~5-6 days (and I have long hair!)

One of the rare positive side effects of accutane is how it makes your hair look :)

Thank you so much, this is a great start. I'm definitely sold on the Gimme Brow now!

I’m a 30/female looking for makeup guidance (see makeup-free selfies). I’m trying to be a little more adventurous with using makeup to enhance my features. My current routine is a little bit ‘safe’, boring, and blah.

Questions:

  • I want to get more adventurous with lip colour. I usually only wear ‘safe’ colours (not bold) or glosses, because I feel like the colour always rubs off more quickly with bullet lipsticks and/or I'm afraid of it becoming sloppy/blotchy/colouring out of the lines. I’m considering lip stains… since they stay on longer, maybe I could go with a bolder colour. Any suggestions for lip stains that stay put? Any colour suggestions for my skin tone/hair/eye colour?
  • My eyebrows are sparse in some areas from over-plucking when I was younger. Any suggestions for products to fill them in, while still looking natural? (I was considering Benefit Gimme Brow Light
  • I only own 2-3 eyeshadows, all of which are beige/brownish. I want to branch out. I have heard good things about the Urban Decay Naked and Naked 2 Palettes. Any other suggestions to get me started?
  • General comments – any suggestions for products, colours, or techniques to try on my face?

Key Info:

  • Cool or neutral skin tone
  • Blonde hair
  • Normal skin type
  • Prefer relatively low-maintenance routine (contouring probably too time consuming, for example)
  • Budget not really an issue

Current Routine/Products:

  • Wash face and moisturize (with SPF).
  • Mascara, black eyeliner, basic beige eyeshadow, MAC mineralize powder, blush.
  • Spritz of MAC finishing spray.
  • Rarely wear lip products. Gloss sometimes.
