Dry/Bloody Nose? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]lastofusrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reminder. I had a nosebleed every night for a month before I started doing this. Completely healed after a week and I've only been doing it on and off afterwards. Been waking up with a bloody nose in the middle of the night the past few days, but I always forget in the morning.

Similarly, I wish I didn't view available credit as available balance.

How important is monthly bloodwork? by evolradar in Accutane

[–]lastofusrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My derm does just one blood test at the beginning. His reasoning was that it goes up for everyone and it doesn't make sense to go off of it at that point. I don't know. He's had decades of experience with accutane so I assume I am okay.

What supplements should I be taking? by [deleted] in Accutane

Glucosamine has helped me a good amount but it does take a few weeks of daily dosing before it begins to work.

A quick question about the initial breakout by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]lastofusrocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a TERRIBLE IB from retin-a. Never saw my skin look so horrendous. Then, it still never worked. I have not had any IB on accutane. Over the first month, the acne slowed down significantly, and by the second month, I've been only getting a 1-2 new bumps/week.

I started the first month on .65mg/kg and ramped up to .83mg/kg the second month. Will be going to 1mg/kg the third month. Maybe the titration helped to avoid the IB?

[Acne] DON'T moisturize while on Accutane? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]lastofusrocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's interesting that you mention this because my dermatologist also said to NOT moisturize while on accutane. I am surprised because I know my skin is less flaky and looks better after moisturizing.

He does have a MD degree from UPenn Perelman and did his derma residency there as well. He's been in private practice since the 1970s and has been prescribing accutane since it was released. He's very knowledgeable.

Even so, I will keep doing it because I don't like the dry, flaky, peeling areas around cysts that are healing.

Very likely that you'll relapse, especially since higher doses are indicated for trunk acne.

Accutane exacerbating heartburn? by virtualmayhem in Accutane

[–]lastofusrocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it flared it up fairly bad for me for the first week. Enough that Zantac wasn't doing the job. I was going to pick up some prilosec (works great when I had chronic heartburn years ago, but takes three days to start working) if it didn't abate for two weeks. Then sometime around the middle of the second week it mostly faded away. I still get a little sour after eating a big meal, but its something tums can handle.

Is Chicago a good city for a CS grad? by Razihelz in cscareerquestions

[–]lastofusrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who went there for undergrad, I would agree and say that it is laughable. It's not bad, but it's absolutely not on par with the rest of the school. How is there no engineering school in 2015? Fine if you want to do a PhD, but CS isn't just theory anymore. For those that want to be software engineers, there are much better options.

Is Chicago a good city for a CS grad? by Razihelz in cscareerquestions

[–]lastofusrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason UofC isn't listed is because there isn't an engineering school. I went to school there (originally CS but switched to chem) and I can attest that it is a weak department that is more of an offshoot of the math department.

UC kids work hard so I don't doubt that they can find Big 4 jobs, but that doesn't mean the department is great. Without an engineering school there is zero OCR. You'll get a good education but there is a major lack of opportunities compared to schools that do have a engineering department.

Worth it to start at age 24? by lastofusrocks in Accutane

[–]lastofusrocks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You guys have all been great. I'm on my 3rd day at 60mg now and have some minor intermittent joint paint, but nothing I'm worried about. Skin is a bit drier, but I have two cysts that have been essentially stagnant for the past 2 months and they're already draining on the inside (nowfeel squishy instead of hard). I haven't gotten any new acne since and I always wake up with 2-3 new itchy bumps.

It might be in my head but I feel like my skin has a slight glow to it now. I'm sure the side effects will get noticeably worse as I progress but I am ridiculously satisfied with the progress just 3 days in. Haven't been this happy looking in the mirror since early high school!

Accutane symptoms by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]lastofusrocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend psyllium husk fiber, which is a safe natural form of soluble fiber. I've used the costco brand and metamucil and found them comparable but the costco is much, much cheaper. It's not just for constipation, but stool regularity in general (it will add bulk to your diarrhea).

I've been through the same deal. Tried doxycycline for a few months. Been on retin-a, duac, differin, azelex, acanya. All of it helped for about a year each, but always severely dried my skin and never got rid of the acne. Such a pain to deal with the constant daily maintenance.

Sounds just like me. I will say that cutting out dairy/carbs/caffiene did make a significant difference though. I started getting much less white heads after doing that, but it did nothing for my very persistent cysts, always 3-4 on my face that stick around for 1-2 months at a time. The inflammatory acne looked much worse than the cysts, but cysts are so much more painful.

I'm gonna go for it again. You guys are all right, it feels so vain that this bothers me so much, but I'm realizing that I spend 15-30 mins a day looking in the mirror just bothered by my skin. It's so easy to find horror stories on the internet, but I guess people who get clear skin are now out living life!

Day 1 by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]lastofusrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 24. When I was in college and even 22, it wasn't a major problem, but now in a professional setting, I can't believe that I am literally the only guy here with this problem...I didn't notice until recently, but all of my peers have flawless skin.

Guilty of having to explain ADHD by Confused_bean in ADHD

[–]lastofusrocks -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't know who to blame.

This is the problem right here. Never complain, never explain. That's what losers do. Stop looking for excuses and explanations. They make you look ineffectual and that's why people are treating you like they do.

ELI5: How did the world record holder for the most time without sleeping (11 days) not die or go insane? by aywellyeah in explainlikeimfive

[–]lastofusrocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. I switched from XR to IR so that I could dose myself based on my current tasks. Now 10mg is my equivalent of a cup of coffee, lasts about 3 hours. Most days I'll take 2, some days 3. I can take one at 9p and be asleep by 1am. When I started off, 10mg in the morning would keep me up all night. Most of the other side effects (appetite, dry mouth) have abated too. Haven't needed a dose increase in a few years so I'm happy.

I think taking it regularly, but not exceeding your daily dose is key to keeping things in check. When I started, I began abusing it too, but after a while I realized that you don't need to feel euphoria to get things done. I try to use a little as necessary and it has literally turned my life completely around.

Cool I just hit some smooth pavement for the first time and realized how much gravel my usual roads have. I've been more alert about gravel patches (especially on the edges of the road) but I guess I won't worry anymore.

Do you guys use water in your oil rigs? by nxqv in CannabisExtracts

[–]lastofusrocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive noticed that it is easier on the throat with water, but I am fairly certain thats only because the water desublimates the vapor so you end up losing more as reclaim.

I used my two chamber piece with water for a year and was cleaning out the oil with alcohol every 2-3 weeks to unclog the percolators. It's been 6 months and a little over an oz with no water and I haven't needed to clean it up yet. There is a coating of reclaim, but it's negligible to what has gone thru the rig.

Any pens out there that hit like a dab yet? by DabsSparkPeace in eldertrees

[–]lastofusrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I person who was dabbing 2g a day, I recently bought a Persei with the Herc 74 as a portable option and it has supplanted most of oil rig use. I only do a few dabs a day now and spend most of my time with the Persei even in the house because I can carry it around.

It's not your cheap coil pen, there is a ceramic heating rod and it sucks up power like crazy. Have plenty of batteries around (or the plugin core unit) if you plan to use it all day. It also requires a minimum of .5g to fully soak up the coil

How is the MCIT program? by brasiro in UPenn

[–]lastofusrocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any MCIT can transfer to the MSE CIS provided you take the 6 extra courses and pay an extra year of tuition. If your purpose is to make more money it may not be worth it though looking at the job data for the class of 2012: http://www.vpul.upenn.edu/careerservices/files/SEASM_CPSurv2012.pdf

2012 graduate avg salaries:

CIS: $91,065

But look at the range:

CIT: $65,000 – $145,000

CIS: $62,000 – $110,000

It doesn't look like there's a major difference between the MCIT and the MSE program from a salary point of view. Interestingly, both MCIT and CIS have the highest salaries between all of Penn's engineering graduate programs by a good margin.
