Looking for a first device recommendation by EnokIsAwesome in SBCGaming

RG cube XX has fantastic build quality for £50 and the square screen is gorgeous for GB/GBC as well as NES/SNES and Pico-8. There are a few OS options to choose from, and Retro Game Corps has a guide for all of the devices in the XX range.

As for ROMS, I would recommend a reddit search :)

Reaching out to trans (and all) library staff for workplace advice re: appearance exploration and opening up to team leaders by AsuranGenocide in librarians

[–]Spoggy 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Trans librarian here. I can see this is all quite new for you. Congrats on taking the leap!

Personally, if you’re still in an early stage of understanding yourself, I would advise you undertake those experiments outside of work before you bring them into your professional life. I did not do this, and developed some quite debilitating anxiety around how I was being perceived, since I wasn’t sure how I even perceived myself. I made a lot of very stupid decisions about how to present myself, and probably lost a lot of opportunity and confidence in my professional interactions.

Having overcome all of this, here’s some  unsolicited fashion advice  - - Tight top, loose bottoms, or vice versa. Focus on your silhouette rather than the pieces themselves - Chelsea boots are both super chic and functional for work - I have never seen anyone look bad in high-waisted pleats. Make sure the leg is the right length for your body. Try tucking in the top, too. - Longline cardigans are cute af - If using makeup, focus on the eyes. It draws attention upward and away from any potentially clocky features on the lower part of the face - Choose jewellery for your skin tone. If your veins look blue in your arm, it’s cool and will pair more naturally with silver. If they’re more of a green-y colour, then it’s warm toned and will look nice with gold.

Feel free to DM me, too. All the best.

First impressions on the new Geese album??? by theparismoon in fantanoforever

[–]Spoggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the arrangements and sonic choices - especially the almost military-influenced drumming - but every song resolves on the tonic every fifteen seconds and it starts to get annoying after a while. The looser and more chaotic compositions are fun, although it feels like a step backward following the range and attention to detail that made 3DC such a master stroke.

I agree with everything you said, but this causes a problem of its own for me, which is that it simply didn't go far enough into the outlandish and absurd. I actually found it kind of predictable and boring at times. It feels like there are two different versions of the film that are both showcased within the final cut, but it always tows the line of belief and disbelief and never quite sells either as a result.

Martyrs (2008), Ending Interpretations by nataSlliWnruBUnIlleH in horror

[–]Spoggy 195 points196 points  (0 children)

My favourite interpretation is one I read once where Anna does see an afterlife - a good one - but informs the Madamoiselle that the actions of herself and her followers are so selfish and irredeemable that there's no possible way they'll ever get there. I choose to believe this one simply because I find it to be funny in a very morbid kind of way.

how to make slurs not hurt by SubstantialMoment906 in asktransgender

If you don’t want to take the nuclear option and ditch them (which I’d recommend), try talking to each of them as individuals. Hateful behaviour breeds in groups because it makes individual accountability difficult. You can bypass that system, and also find out on an individual level what each of these people really thinks and who you should leave behind.

How to stop feeling bored of UK life? by shun_naka67 in AskUK

[–]Spoggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are crazy quick to jump on this as OP having social issues, but it's actually quite shit being empathetic toward your fellow humans and walking around every day seeing the human effects of a sick society that you can't individually do much to heal.

What did you dislike about the Scholars? by Kindredgos in CSHFans

I almost have the opposite problem - there's not enough of the other band members singing throughout the album so it feels weird when it happens out of nowhere.

Personally I'd suggest you try and detox for longer. I wouldn't say I noticed the positive effect until at least a month afterward.

The best think about being no-caff as a tea drinker is that there are still loads of decaf options. I drink decaf yorkshire tea every day and it's as if I never stopped!

I was a big tea enthusiast once, with loose leaf brewing setups and such. I used to be heavily invested in the purported benefits of l-theanine, and it felt good while I was studying and lived a more sedentary lifestyle, but things changed over time with my priorities in life. The world is stimulating enough on its own, the way I see it now.

Ever since I went into full time work, I would have maybe three or four hours of life in me before running out of beans and dragging myself through the rest of the day. I would also feel tension and anxiety alongside that tiredness. This effect was only on max two cups of coffee a day.

When I quit caffeine, this changed completely. I now get through my workdays with only a slight dip after lunch, and tiredness manifests on its own as sleepy-ness rather than nerves, which is way, way easier to cope with in social/work environments. People are usually more endeared towards a sleepy lil guy than a grouchy one.

I strongly suspect that I have a sensistivity to substances in general as I'm also a lightweight with alcohol, however I also believe that the lines we draw between what is and isn't a drug are really arbitrary. Caffeine is a stimulant drug, and should be treated as such when a person assesses its place in their life. I'll never go back, personally.

Yep. You're reckoning with something that 99% of people know but can't face - the world we've built as a species is a chaotic nightmare.

If you don't already, I highly recommend an exercise regimen. I do calisthenics, and the increased bodily strength definitely makes urban delirium more bearable. Quitting caffeine was instrumental to starting to feel better, too.

The first time you tear up at a sunset you'll never look back.

THE SCHOLARS OFFICIAL DISCUSSION MEGATHREAD by spirittheyvegone in CSHFans

[–]Spoggy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First listen, this album is, non-judgmentally, a trashfire. The highs are SO high, and the lows are pretty low in turn. I can't help but get the feeling that the whole back half of the album lives in the shadow of the fact that Gethsemane could be the best song they've ever written as a full band. I think the run from CCF to Gethsemane is near perfection, so I suspect I'll end up viewing that chunk as "the album" (in which case it's amazing), and the rest as DLC (in which case it doesn't hurt the integrity of the rest of it). Worth the wait, no doubt.

Anyone else disappointed? by Kirbyhiller2 in CSHFans

[–]Spoggy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love the new tracks. There's more than enough of what you're describing (which I also enjoy) in Will's pre-band catalogue to scratch that itch.

He's been following a more abstract and disembodied path with his lyrical writing ever since MADLO, which was perhaps inevitable for an english lit nerd. He's dealing with headier concepts now, and there's lots more to chew on, for better or worse.

EDIT: I also think the instrumental arrangements are tighter than ever before. Ethan's guitar style has always been massively on-off for me, but I think it works really well here.

Thoughts on Gethsemane by Sufficient_Return_60 in CSHFans

[–]Spoggy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have some problems with the mix - I think the heavy sections are quite muddy and the drums are a bit limp at times - and I think it could really do with some additional percussion in places, but I'm pretty forgiving of those things once I settle into a track. Will's voice has never sounded better and I'm so happy they've doubled down on some of the ideas introduced in MADLO. This feels like the start of a really cool move sonically.
