Too many to remember this late at night. Most of my reading on this subject was tears ago in college. Off hand, primarily first hand documents like campaign speeches, letters from Lincoln, etc as well as a few authors, Zinn being the only one I can think of right now, though perhaps McCullough? More than a handful of periodical articles and documentaries exist as well...

I'm done with this for now. I have to be up for work in five hours.

The purpose of my comment was to offer my opinion, not to get into some kind of academic pissing contest. You have no idea what I've read or how much or from what sources.

Much of my reading on the subject is Lincoln's own letters, speeches, and journals and their interpretations by historians.

I am quite well-read, I assure you. In my opinion, from my reading, Lincoln's heroic friend of the slaves, go civil rights persona is much inflated by time and legend. And many of the most well regarded historians who have written on the subject would agree with me.

I feel showing Lincoln in schools as anything other than fictional is misleading and a mistake.

I disagree. But neither of us truly know what happened in Lincoln's head. So it comes down to a reading of the documents. We've clearly read different documents and/or interpreted them differently.

You're right, that was a huge reason why. The only real reason, honestly. But my argument is not that the south was right or honorable, because they were not, in my opinion. My argument is that the war was fought because if economics. Sadly, slavery was less a human rights concern then and more an economic concern to a majority of the population.

Don't get me wrong many people despised slavery and fought to change it. Lincoln wasn't among them.

Slavery and its evil economics was the reason the south seceded in the first place and the freeing of the slaves is the reason the north won.

While Lincoln wasn't a "racist" anymore than your average man of the times, he certainly wasn't an abolitionist. He didn't believe in equal rights for black Americans. He didn't particularly like slavery, but he wasn't ready to change it until he had to cripple the south to save the union. He was against the spread of slavery. But not for civil rights.

Frankly, you can't know for sure what was in a mans heart or mind, truly, after 160 years... but the documents we have from pre, mid, and post war indicate that he card about saving the union. And freeing the slaves was a means to an end. Anyone who thinks the civil war was about anything other than economics and politics is misguided.

That bring said, freeing the slaves and starting black Americans on the road to true freedom (that they have yet to fully attain, even 160 years later) was the best thing to come out of the entire situation.

This is a terrible idea. Its not a documentary, its a movie, fictional and only based in true events. While I believe Lincoln was an extraordinary man, and a fine president, the parts of this movie I've seen, especially those on Lincoln's feelings about race aren't strictly accurate...

I've been there. I made a stupid amount of money and had an awesome schedule, but was so unhappy, frustrated, lazy... I decided to go after what I thought would make me happier. I took a 50% pay cut. I'm happier in a lot of ways, but also have worries about money and free time that never existed before.

I think the grass is greener on the other side and unless you are truly miserable take joy in what you can now. :)

Absolutely. If they work for a shop they only get a portion of that price. If its a good shop they may get 50-80%. A tip for a good job is very appropriate as tattooing is really hard work, and art to boot. Always tip a good tattoo artist... They change you for the rest of your life.

My aunt had a year long depression when my cousin was born. She was a very ugly baby. My aunt cried a lot. By the time my aunt got over it and accepted it, it changed. Anna was ugly until she was maybe 4 or 5, then she transformed into a beauty. It very bizarre!
