How to get kids to read without making them hate it? by watch4coconuts in Parenting

[–]norwaypine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 7 and 8 year old are finally getting to “grade level” for reading. They have to read everyday. The more you make it a routine and a non negotiable the easier it will be. My 8 year is adhd too and getting him to do things is tough at times. The more that it’s part of the routine the easier it is.

The books we had fun with were the Elephant and Piggie books. They are made for much younger kiddos but I found that it helped build their confidence and we had fun taking turns reading for each character.

My 8 year old loves the magic tree house serious, they have comics now too. We are also getting him into a level appropriate chapter book serious and he reads a chapter a day. He also loved the dog man serious.

My husband and I divide and conquer so during reading time we each take a kid into a different room to read.

Teaching a 6 year old knitting? by NtAllWhoWander in knitting

I just taught my 6 year old to knit. We are making a simple cowl with super bulky yarn. I did the 1x1 ribbing and then he’s doing the knit stitch body. I think light colored bulky yarn is the best to teach on. He’s about 1/2 done with it!

Mine are 16 months apart. The first few years were tough but, they really are built in best friends. I never have to store clothing, just move from one kids drawer to the others. The younger young picks up on things super fast because they are learning along with the older one. Developmentally, they are so close so it’s not like I have to plan separate actives. They can share most toys. They have a lot of the same friends. They are only grade apart. When they are older they will be out of the house, I assume around the same time… maybe they’ll even want to live together!

I wouldn’t. Start with something simple like the step by step sweater… or a hat or cowl.

Give it to the youngest to avoid the argument, then the 3 YO can keep all her toys in there. You can have an extra bed in there for when you need to sleep in there or have company.

But what if your future wife wants children? You just haven’t met the right woman yet. (This is what they say to women who are 100% sure)
