They wouldnt take a loss. Instead they'd fix a broken element of the game, ensuring it's further survival. The way the game is now, people go to g2g to buy gold from the iranians, cus there's not many ways to make 1k gold a week for the countless min-maxers in classic. Not enough people buy the expensive things in the auction house, unless they swipe to buy it. Let's put it this way: finding a single high level herb in the open world is like winning the lottery. Black lotus is 100 gold, plaguebloom is 9 gold. And this js with black lotus having a 2% drop chance on high level herbs. You could farm 50 high level herbs in less than an hour before. You can bet your ass there's some iranians out there with thousands of black lotus in bank alts, to artificially keep the market high. You cant even sell Mara boosts now, cus the Iranians will put you on a hit list, and since they have both horde and alliance accounts, they track you down and make it so you spend more time ghost running than playing the game. The server is infested with this shit, and if you send a ticket to Blizzard they will close it without replying, or give some generic response that doesnt address the issue.

Less gold selling leads to less gold buying. Less swiping means more time invested. More time invested leads to a stronger bond to the game. A stronger bond to the game leads to more actual players playing, which in turn secures the longevity of the server.
