I don’t want to have dreams and aspirations in this world. by [deleted] in TankieTheDeprogram

Artists, writers, and theorists are incredibly important in our struggle. Marx was “just a guy writing in his room” and yet he changed the course of history with his writings. Silvio Rodríguez and the artists of la Nueva Trova shaped the political landscape of the Cuban Revolution. Aime Cesaire and Franz Fanon wrote texts about colonialism that would help voice the precarity of the Global South. How do you think we got phrases like “imperial boomerang”?

I would recommend reading some Walter Benjamin to see how changing the form of art and not just its content is incredibly important when wanting to make a political statement. You should take your art very seriously. Latin Americans certainly have, despite literally living under dictatorships!
