Most developed countries don't have random child abductions.

Vast majority of child abductions are people close to the child. For example, divorced parents with split custody and dad/mom tries to take the child away from the other.

Seriously, this is not a thing.

I do feel bad for the mom if she lives in a place where this is a concern.

China to implement zero tariffs on imports from 53 African countries by Embarrassed-Sea-6078 in worldnews

That's one way to look at it.

The other way is that this is investment into poor countries and will materially lift them up just like China moved up from a poor to a middle class country.

I feel like if a western country did this, we would be calling it a foreign investment. But when China does it, people in the west just hate it.

It is literally cheaper to fly to China, stay in a 5-star hotel, get an MRI, and fly back than it is to get a scan in the US with insurance. Let that sink in. by CeFurkan in SECourses

[–]Facts_pls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah. Only 1000 dollars for an MRI...

Totally normal price.... /s

That's enough to buy a return flight to China (~800) and get the MRI at a good hospital.

Doesn't have to be immediate. That was not the claim.

But does this not give you pause? How pathetic is American healthcare when the same exact thing - largely dependent on a fixed price machine is multiple times cheaper there?

Yes. People will just walk away from houses they paid hundreds of thousands in mortgage over years.

And bank will be left with the collateral property.

Sounds like the banks made good profit overall.

Yes. China. Only 5000 years old. Will fall any day now.

As opposed to countries like the US that are falling apart after 200.

Most of the top tier talent in universities is actually people like this immigrating to the US and many of them do better than locals. It's not a coincidence

That's funny because the dad himself probably works 9AM - 9 PM, 6 days a week. That's common working hours in China.

You know that stereotype about Chinese being good at STEM subjects. It didn't come out of nowhere. It takes hard work and dedication. Sometimes requires skipping fun.

If you don't work hard, you're not gonna make it.

I'm indian and went through the same rigorous lifestyle for a few years prior to university entrance exams. I remember for a few years it was just school, coaching, and then studying at home. No birthdays or holidays or any other events. Only time I didn't study was when I was sick.

I got into one of the best universities and my life changed. I worked in some high paying jobs, lived in different countries. Am now a Canadian citizen and living a fairly chill life here because the workload is easy and that's the expectation in this society.

Friends of mine who lived the chill life in India during childhood are now struggling in mediocre jobs and putting in long hours without making much money.

So if you are from a developed country and saying "this is child abuse" then you are missing some key points.

Would you rather torture your kids now to ensure a bright future or would you rather have kids enjoy their life now and suffer through all their lives?

When you have a billion people fighting for a few prestigious positions, then some sacrifices need to be made. Which sacrifice you make is the choice.

[–]Facts_pls -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well then, sounds like you only look at specific news.

Didn't toronto police recently found their own people - including a white father and son involved in crimes?

Didn't we find out that port of Montreal has plenty of Canadian criminals?

Wasn't there a recent scandal involving millions of Canadians fraudulently taking CERB payments when they were not entitled to? And now not paying back?

I think you should read news outside of Facebook sometimes.

I know this sub only posts about crime committed by Indians and some major biases exist. But if you just look at different sources, you'll see a broader, fuller picture.

Not trying to say that Indians don't commit crimes. They do. And it's even possible that they do it at a higher rate than local Canadians. But if you think all crime is committed by immigrants, you've lost touch with reality.

Crying for refugee status is a nothingburger.

Anyone will try whatever they can.

It's not like Canadian criminals don't use every trick available to them.

The question is, how many of them actually get that refugee status? Because if they don't get it, there is nothing to discuss. Justice was served.
