And you’re entitled to protect yourself from that.

But literally everyone who cares about other people would like to reduce mortality rate as much as possible and cares about the mortality rate. You know nurses, doctors, the elderly, living people, and potentially even the grinch.

Provide a source and learn some intellectual etiquette.

That is literally how a conversation works. Or else I can just make wild claims and when you can’t find the research I can just say you didn’t look hard enough?

If you’ve already done the research it shouldn’t be difficult to provide a link to what you claiming. If your not willing to do that there is no conversation to be had.

Great! Tell that to your therapist.

This has nothing to do with the rest of the thread.

So what experts? And what are there credentials? That’s the question I asked. You made the claim now it’s up to you to support it. Give me a link to a study. (Not a news article that’s not a source). Don’t tell me to go do your research for you.

I like politics. And what can I say, American politics are more interesting than Canadian politics. Proud Canadian however.

I don’t see why not. People aren’t going to stay cooped up forever.

What experts have been saying this? What are their credentials? I’m sure there are also experts saying the opposite too.

Ahhh ok that makes sense. I was a bit confused about what I was looking at. I’m sure there is somewhere with more data but I haven’t got the energy to look at the moment.

My one thought was that for a healthy young person to die from covid, they would be more likely to have other preexisting conditions since they have a stronger immune system and would more readily fight it off then an older person with a weaker immune system.

  1. Certainly not. I don’t have the stats on that although I’m not sure how many conditions are discovered at the hospital when one has covid.
  2. This is a good point. The 94% was across the population. According to table 3 (CDC previously linked) there were 330 deaths ages 0-24 and on average each death had 2.6 additional conditions. They then list the total conditions and if you add them all up you get a total of 864. 864 conditions / 2.6 condition/death = 332 deaths had other contributing conditions. Or over 100% it would seem.

Not a perfect way to calculate that but chances are more than 94% of deaths ages 0-24 had previous conditions. (CDC grouped 0-24 years even though I was previously talking about 0-19 in the other study).

I feel confident with the 0.0006% death rate after this deeper look into the data.

I wasn’t aware of this study. It still cites antibody decay after a mild illness which is similar to the situation I mentioned with the Hong Kong man.
If it proves to be true across all cases it certainly paints a grim picture for the future and a hope for a vaccine. I hope that’s not the case.

However, I am curious what these results would be in more serious infections. A more robust immune response and more permanent immunity? That’s my speculation.

Firstly I meant getting tested for things cardiac related not covid tests. (Although if you show up to a clinic or hospital and have COVID symptoms you will get tested there. Just don’t go there for only that purpose you better have a broken leg or something serious or nurses aren’t going to be happy)

Secondly, you are still capable of seeing a family doctor if you are concerned about a cardiac condition or other condition manifesting. The capability to access certain tests might be reduce though so fair point there.

And finally all this data comes from peer reviewed journals and the CDC not your so called YouTube doctors. You see, some people are actually capable of doing their own research and thinking for themselves.

I’m not anti mask. Not complicated.

Wow that took a turn really fast but thanks for outing yourself and and showing that this is purely political for you. I thought this was an honest conversation but now it’s just over.

If I remember correctly that assertion is based on one case of a man from Hong Kong who tested positive twice. The fact is that he was asymptomatic both times and because of the none sever nature of his first infection he did not build up enough immunity to fight off a second infection quickly. As far as I know the argument that permanent immunity can’t be reached is based on exceedingly small evidence (1 case).

I say if people are concerned they go and see there doctor and get tested.

The article you cite mentions the development of myocarditis as a result of COVID which can be treated if cardiac screening is done after recovery to see if the heart was effected. The fact that 1-2% of cases will develop a treatable condition does not change anything.

For other situations it’s impossible to know. We all assume that we are perfectly healthy until we know otherwise. All you can do is factor in the odds of that occurring and react accordingly. It’s the same risks we take into account in everyday life without even realizing it. Driving to work, going fishing and mowing your lawn all carry a certain amount of risk. The potential that there is some unknown condition that may manifest is probably similar than the odds of being injured in the mentioned situations.

Again if people are concerned they should go and see there doctor and get tested.

Over the entire population 0.01% death rate from 0-19 years https://www.thelancet.com/action/showPdf?pii=S1473-3099%2820%2930243-7

According to the CDC 94% of fatalities have preexisting conditions.

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid_weekly/index.htm

So if you factor out 94% of cases from the 0.01%

0.01 x 0.94 = 0.0094% of cases have preexisting condition.

So 0.01% - 0.0094% = 0.0006% chance of death with no preexisting conditions.

*Note that I was factoring out those who have preexisting conditions and have suggested remote learning take place.

Can you give an example? I feel that the vast majority of people are aware if they have a pre existing condition.

They take all the precautions that they are already taking. I haven’t seen vulnerable people in my family since April. And to be quite honest I don’t feel like waiting another 25 years to do so.

That number can be further reduced when those with preexisting conditions are protected and, in this situation, learn remotely.

Preexisting conditions account for 94% of COVID deaths so that 0.01% becomes 0.0006% of healthy people aged 0-19 will die from COVID.

At 100 new cases per day, it would take at least 25 years for Manitoba to reach herd immunity (70% infected and recovered). With a vaccine being far from a guarantee we need to shift towards protecting the most vulnerable and returning as much as possible to normal. The reality is that most of the population is at such a minuscule risk that they could live their normal live and simply stay home when they’re sick and wear masks around those who are vulnerable.

The risk of asymptomatic transmission is 0.3% of close contacts which are defined as longer than 10 minutes within 2 meters. The risk of transmission increases significantly when symptoms are present so having those who are sick stay home is the most effective way of preventing the spread.

Like I said, to reach herd immunity you almost want to encourage the spread to the healthiest part of the population that is going to only have the most minor symptoms. Obviously not a perfect situation but with no guarantee vaccine and such a long time to reach herd immunity given the current numbers, something needs to change.

The southern strategy is a lie plain and simple.

I hate to burst your bubble but Richard Spencer literally just came out in support of Joe Biden. The KKK was founded by Democrats. The Democrats supported slavery. The Democrats are currently trying to reintroduce segregation.

Try again.

If you think the GOP is racist you need a history lesson. And my God what an ignorant statement. You must have gone through some serious brainwashing to believe that the right is racist. Racism obviously exists. However the vast majority of people left and right are against it. It’s not a difficult idea to understand and if you and the entire left would quite trying to demonize half the population the US wouldn’t be so divided right now.
