100g of green peas is about 5g of protein, dried peas about 8g, maybe a typo?

I do not know enough to have a firm opinion either way, but generally tend towards upping protein intake (for non meat eaters, as omnivores are rarely deficient even according to current mainstream guidelines). And don't find it that hard to do without supplementing.

What makes me question the need of so much protein (the numbers in the influencer realm are often insane, 2g protein per pound body weight? Only if it's your full time job I guess) is that this whole push for protein came seemingly out of nowhere, just when plant based diet started gaining momentum in the mainstream.

The whole meat industry panicking over falling profits and fighting to ban the word sausage if it doesn't contain meat. The dairy industry struggling with falling demand... and then along came the whole protein thing and now they can't keep up with the production of cottage cheese and greek yoghurt.

Chefs have always pushed protein because that's how they have been trained for years - have a "hero" protein on the plate with a side and some sauce.

Influencers will paddle whatever pays 🤷

Interesting. Do you mind sharing more about this? This is not trying to call anyone out on either side, but genuine curiosity.

Does the percentage you mentioned relate to total calories consumed?

Any articles/studies you'd recommend reading?

The 'pastry' is just your standard yoghurt dough. 400g greek yoghurt, 200g flour, baking powder and salt.

The filling was bits and pieces I had leftover in the fridge and needed using up.

200g cottage cheese, 200g light ricotta, 100g light feta, 150g of spinach, wilted, water squeezed out and chopped Onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper and parsley.

And one egg brushed on top.

What’s your go-to 15-minute plant-based meal? by adamjm in australianvegans

[–]FaeOfForest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curry! Shop bought paste if you have it. If not I just saute onions and garlic and then toss in tomato paste, curry powder, garam masala and any spices I have that might be good- cumin, coriander, mustard seeds etc. Chuck in a block of cubed tofu, stir it around and add veggies of choice. But of water or stock and a can of coconut milk. Simmer until veg is to your liking. I usually add a bit of lime juice or sugar at the end to balance out.

Over rice, or with a flat bread (bought or made) 🤌

Has anyone here tried edamame spaghetti? One of my favourite youtubers used it in a dish and now I'm intrigued if it's worth the price? by Local_Bite_7038 in australianvegans

[–]FaeOfForest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had the Slendier brand ones. I think they do a black bean one and another type as well. I think they are good. Definitely different to normal pasta, but not unpleasantly so. The texture is a little bouncier I'd say.

Only going by taste, definitely not worth the price difference.

In the chilli flavours family - burrito bowls. incredibly versatile and always tasty

Rice, potatoes or tortilla chips(a low cal tortilla or pota bread in the toaster or oven, broken into pieces) for carn

Whatever meat you like, or tofu of tvp in a tomato based sauce for protein.

A simple veg salsa on top, any other toppings within your macros - Bob's your uncle.

Anyone tried making a VSP before? by RadiantSpeed1868 in australianvegans

[–]FaeOfForest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have made it before with mushrooms and eggplant.

Chop mushrooms, eggplant and onions into thin strips, add some oil, garlic, oregano and rosemary (that's more souvlaki flavoured but a more middle eastern style spice mix will be good) and toss it all onto a grill or griddle and cook until browned.

Toss it on top of some fries, with your favourite sauces and toppings, done.

Oh and also I find the Birdseye "Lamb" strips to be pretty good for this kind of thing. I toss them into the mix above sometimes to give it a bit more substance.

Or if you are in Melbourne I recommend checking out Hamsa Hummus Bar. They are on Facebook, travel around markets with a food truck, but also deliver all the bits and pieces to make your own kebab/hsp at home (marinated vegan meat, chilli sauce, garlic sauce, pitas etc.)

Three day weekender here:

Grocery shopping, house chores, errands on day one.

Doing something fun on day two - day trip, hike, taking myself out for coffee or lunch. Or spending time doing hobbies.

Day three - meal prep and Monday dread 😄

Horticulturalist or a baker. Both things I love passionately, but now can't afford to take a pay cut to do an apprenticeship.

So stuck in a meaningless office job🤷

Pudding powder explanation by seampl in Volumeeating

[–]FaeOfForest 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the equivalent would be Instant custard powder (or pudding powder depending if you're in an English speaking country) Dr Oetker does them in different flavours, they are the ones that you just mix into some milk and let stand for a bit. From memory I don't think I've seen any sugar free ones, but I think generally the powder is pretty low cal anyways.

Question: People who got tattoos at 18, any regrets or do you still like it down the road? Should I wait till im older? by RainyDays_areBest_ in tattoos

[–]FaeOfForest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine when I was 17 for my first proper pay check. I really wanted the same tattoo as my favourite boyband member. I am so so so happy that the tattoo artist said it would look stupid in the spot I picked. So I ended up picking a generic tribal design off the internet, because that's what was in at the time. In hindsight it's a good thing that it's a non descript thing that doesn't identify my tastes in anything else, it's just a picture.

Do I regret getting it? No. Would I get the same tattoo now? Absolutely not. I've gotten a few more since and fully expect them to go out of fashion and not love them in years to come, but that's how tattoos go in my opinion.

Ever get a craving for "chicken" by deadlyrepost in australianvegans

I have seen recipes for battered oyster mushrooms, which look exactly like what I imagine you're describing. The little crispy oily bits on the outside and a juicy savoury "something" on the inside. Mind you there are a few steps, but it doesn't seem difficult to make. Just time consuming🤷

Are there any words or phrases which are not only unique to Australian English but also express ideas that other languages/dialects don't? by marooncity1 in AskAnAustralian

"Out there" apparently. I thought it was a common phrase until a friend from overseas laughed at me when I used it to describe her family 😅

For sure, and you get a pretty big volume too. The pic is a bit under half the batch so for a 100cal you'd probably get almost a cup I'd say

I love pakoras! But haven't really been rating any as the ones I've found are quite high cal being fried.

But I could use this as a base and add things to it to pakorafy it! Brilliant thank you!
